Far be it for
Japan to steal the Dell store's thunder, but the pre-order page for Alienware's
M11x. The "not a netbook, not yet a gaming rig" is retaining its previously-heard
$799 price tag, and with it comes a 1.3GHz Pentium SU4100, 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT335M, 2GB of memory, and 160GB HDD. Wanting to customize? Turn that processor into a 1.3GHz Core 2 Duo SU7300 for $100, up the RAM to 8GB for $350, and swap the HDD with a 256GB SSD for $570. Mobile broadband is available via either Verizon or AT&T for another $125. It's all starting to add up
mighty fast, but hey, at least it started small. Ship date is March 1st, which is just around the corner. You can be patient.
I just got off the phone with Dell. EJ told me the laptop was not available yet. He kindly checked again after I told him about other people ordering it online and it being available on Dell's website. Sadly, he was not able to place the order for me.
I'll call back in a few days once the documentation has trickled down to their call centers.
WiFi confirmed.... Don't ask how, it just does ;)

I just ordered mine tonight. Here's the link:
http://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/alienware-m11x-now-ready-for-pre-order/
I'm not going to preorder it because I go off to college in september, and 7 months is a loooong time in the consumer electronics market. The real reason the M11x excites me is because of the precedence it sets. I really hope to see ASUS and Acer work a little bit of their low-cost magic in this market.
@Broderbund
This is a very good point. Asus isn't going to be happy when this thing starts sniping customers away from their Vt series.
Anyone know how you can find this on Dell's website or Alienwares? When I clicked the link then selected the 'tech specs' link, it brought up the 15x. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
749 quid in the UK
How is 799 dollars 749 sterling?
I don't understand something. On the UK site you can get on of the slow 1.3 processors, both at 800 MHz FSB but when you get to chose the RAM you can have 1024 MHz RAM...why? why you they make me buy a faster ram when the processor is much slower? and why not shove one of the i7 cores in there after all?
Does anyone know is this laptop is compatible with nVidia 3D glasses (since they are proposed as an option) ?
..........not worth the money? It's a netbook sized laptop that can play Mass Effect 2 at full specs.....NUFF SAID!
one word BOTTLENECK
Has anyone that pre-ordered gotten anything besides an order confirmation email?
@Barge
They aren't shipping until March, so you probably won't get another email until then.
@Oscarv77
Just got another email.
March 11th delivery with standard shipping is what they're saying now.
@Barge
Apparently, some Slickdeals forum members are saying that they already received their laptops. I ordered on the same day, so hopefully, mine should be close to shipping.
Why in the name of FUCK (are we allowed to swear?) is WWAN not an option in the UK?
