HTC Desire listed at Amazon's German portal (update: €519)
Curious as to what HTC will be charging for its Sense-enabled Desire? If Amazon's German portal is to be believed, it'll go for a cool €419 ($572). Of course, the site doesn't give any indication as to when it'll actually ship to those that order, but it is clear that Amazon is doing the selling and not some third-party merchant. Just under six Benjamins for a souped-up Nexus One? You know you're in for that.
[Thanks, Lars]
Update: We had a feeling this price was too good to be true and sure enough, Amazon.de now lists the Desire for a steeper €519 ($711), alongside the newly arrived Legend, which has shown up with a €459 ($629) asking price [Thanks, Sebastian].

Das ist nicht fair
@southern78 Aber trotzdem extrem geil!
419 euro would be a great price (in comparizon to other smartphones)! I hope that listing is right!
@Kopfgeldjaeger
Expansys £449.. stop. April 12th.. stop.

@Kopfgeldjaeger
Damn, indeed cheap price, compared to N1 +500€...
@Paullll
£398 http://www.clove.co.uk/viewProduct.aspx?product=32C8AD9B-E300-4267-BEC1-DE55F02D0184
419!! woot!!!
AT&T 3G OR GTFO
@nelagster
i'll GTFO.
@nelagster
- hardware buttons (better looking and more responsive)
- optical trackpad!
- better speaker placement
- built in Sense
- 576mb
- better video frame rate
AT&T's new 'smartphone' extortion policy can GTFO
extra $50 premium over n1 sounds reasonable to me
@GN1
Dude, it's like €100($137) cheaper than N1. Not $50 pricier.
We are talking here about European prices.

Sounds really good right???? WRONG!! It does NOT have the dual mics, therefore no noise cancellation. It is a phone after all. For someone(like me) who value the phone function the most, would still have to go to the N1(And guess what, back to no AT&T 3G).
I just don't really understand why can't they just make one thing that is perfect. e.g. HD2 with android or Desire with dual mics
@Paullll
DUDE what planet your from?? do your math, it said 419 Euro ($579) I got my n1 for $529 or 388 Euro so N1 is $50 pricier. unless you're not in the states. then i feel sorry for you for paying more than that.
@unquick
it's all about what's more important to the individual user. in your case dual mic. in mine, i'm willing to sacrifice just that for some physical buttons + a newer technology (optical trackpad!) it's like upgrading to an optical mouse from a roller ball mouse back then + better placement on the speaker (man speaker on the back blows i always ended up having to flip the phone so the sound doesn't get so distorted or completely block out. so Hell Yes i would give up the dual mic for just these improvement listed above. it just makes more Sense.
@GN1
Atleast I am not from Moronlandia.
The article is about price in EUROPE! These prices has nothing to do with US prices, since you have gadgets there much cheaper, because US economy is crap.
Got it?
N1 price in EU +700$ and Desire now also +700$.
N1 price in the US +500$ and Desire unknown( Obvious that it would be +500$).
A good phone until you get a windows phone 7 series phone (bad product name, I know)
@BGates. Das un Bille Gates!
@BGates
MS is going the right direction, but I think I'll stick with Google. By the time they actually ship a Windows Phone 7 Series Engadget will be drooling over the DROID 2 and Nexus 2 with Android 3.0.
Android ftw.
@treats Be realistic.....they'll be drooling over the 4th gen iPhone!!!
iPhone FTW!!!
@Mtmrob
well engadget will be, but we (the educated and smart people) will not
yes!!! does anyone know what bands it will have?
@masta vaan
Probably either 900\2100 or 900\1900\2100
The only one that could possibly work is 1900 on AT&T, but they only use that in some cities. Most places for AT&T use 850.
@masta vaan
Nickelback?
@DestrictoEnse
yes, i would like so, but its more important to have a network than an band. but nickelback ftw!
I'm not really in for it _at_all_ since the 3g bands aren't compatible with ANY usa carriers -- you can thank our wonderful FCC for that.
for clarification, the price is including all taxes and whatever...and no at&t 3g in the german version
I hope google will also finally offer the nexus one in Germany
@raidor
uhh i should read the product site: Quad-Band UMTS (GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz) as at&t is on 850 it should work
@raidor
What kind of absurd country would actually list the price you pay?
@LeJay
i suppose that was irony...i thougth in the us they list prices without VAT or something...maybe i'm missinformed...german taxation laws are enough for two lifespans
@LeJay All of them except the states
@raidor what you're stating are the gsm frequencies.
Holy crap, that's like 80 euros cheaper than here in sweden. Then again, the early, pre-launcg prices are rarely the cheapest, so mayber we'll get the same price.
@fabarati wait, nevermind, it's 500 euros in sweden. The proper stores now have it listed. Still, it's 40 euros cheaper than the Xperia X10
Play.com in the UK has it for £449 with a 12/04/2010 release date. My contract runs out in May. Can't wait!
@Captain Hodge
Haha, silly european dates.
@Taylor Yes Taylor
Silly? I really don't understand why Americans mix up the order of the length of time; medium/least/most (mm/dd/yy) instead of increasing least/medium/most (dd/mm/yy)
$40 more thank the nexus one yet its the same phone, just already has flash 10.1 support, hardly worth $40 to get flash a few weeks/months earlier.
@hajj3
Actually it's worse than that. It has a couple of features missing from the Nexus (noise cancelling etc...) and so therefore should be cheaper.
GREAT news!
If the N1 were available I'd have bought it but now I'll jsut get the Desire.
One question: what can the N1 do that the Desire can't? Does it have everything? 2 mics e.g.? Voice recognition?
@Geozec
the voice recognition is android, but the dual mics was made by htc...
@masta vaan
Ok but that doesn't answer my question. Does it have everything the N1 has, hardwarewise?
@Geozec YES, apart from and Optical Trackball, the nexus one has a normal Trackball
@azza88
Thanks, that's good to hear.
Now I'll just have to wait if I really get it at that price.
@azza88
One question I ahve asked several times with no answer (for the N1):
1. Can you turn off Sense if you don't like it and have the normal 2.1 theme?
2. Can you choose the old, 1.5 theme (clear blue with analog clock?)
Thanks
@Geozec
The Desire does not have the dual mics. As far as I know, that's the only thing it lacks in comparison to the N1, but to make up for it there are the hardware buttons, flash support, and sense UI. Those may not be a big deal to a lot of people, but I consider them huge bonuses.
I want this phone in the US. Now.
@Geozec you can turn sense off on it I believe, you could on my hero & they haven't changed it. I'm sure you can find a 1.5 theme on the net but we don't have any 2.1 devices in the uk yet so i couldn't say what the themes will be!
@azza88
Thanks you 2 for your answers!
I think this price is a mistake from amazon, since they list the HTC legend for €459:
http://www.amazon.de/HTC-Smartphone-Aluminium-Geh%C3%A4use-Android/dp/B0038JDF2K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=ce-de&qid=1266445108&sr=1-1
That's €40,- more than their listed price for the desire!
Still, it would be sweet if this would be the final price
@auwdioslave
Well I lready ordered it. We'll see. I can remember a similar cast before Christmas and they sold the device for the cheaper price for those who preordered.
If it's a mistake and I get it I'm happy, if not I won't sue them anyway.
@Geozec
Thanks for the tip. Mine is now ordered, too.
@Geozec
Hope you get it, I'll have to wait till june when my contract runs out, I'm hoping it will stay at this price point
@Geozec thanks, i pre-ordered it aswell, now i just gotta come up up with that much money :( want a (android-) smartphone sooooo bad....
