10.1-inch ThinkPad X100e surfaces with Atom N450 processor
Well, here's a bit of an interesting development. While we've been seeing Lenovo's ThinkPad X100e out and about for a while now, it's always been with an AMD Neo processor and an 11.6-inch 1,366 x 768 display. According to a spec list that recently turned up on Lenovo's own site, however, it looks like the company may also have another version of the laptop in store that's even more netbook-like. That one not only includes a lower-res, 10.1-inch screen, but an Atom N450 processor as well -- something that had been rumored to be headed to Lenovo netbooks as far back as December. Unfortunately, there's no indication of pricing or availability, although it does seem a bit late in the game for this to simply be a slip-up of some sort.

Wow that looks nice actually
@TacticalTimbo
obviously thats not the netbook we're talking about here...
That's a Thinkpad Edge in the picture... not an X100e.
@ToniCipriani Oh yeah you're right. http://www.digitaltrends.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/lenovo-thinkpad-x100e-2.jpg
*Looks at pic* Man, now I love this thing even more.
@N900 Yes, but that's still a picture of the Envy 13. The picture you linked to is outdated. Check the Lenovo website and on Youtube. The X100e doesn't have the silver surrounding like the Envy.
@thoughtmonster Oh wait, they updated the screen cap. That must be it.
@thoughtmonster It's working fine for me...
But I think Engadget changed their post.
@N900 Yes, sorry about that. It's the correct image now.
@ToniCipriani Its changed now. It seems like this thing will be Lenovo's version of HP's dv2/dv2z in Thinkpad styling. All the reviews for the dv2 were pretty good for heat, so I would assume that this one would be too.

Holy crap, that's a fine looking netbook.
Normally I think Thinkpads look ugly but that one actually looks quite good.
@Cydoniac
Except for the bright red "clown nose" in the middle of the keyboard. I really wish they'd drop those and just leave the track pad.
@NoOneSpecific Lol @ Not getting ThinkPads at all..
@NoOneSpecific
The red nub is great. never have to take your fingers off the keyboard to move the pointer.
Guess who is SO GLAD he canceled his AMD Single-core X100e order?
Cool looking Netbook. Too Bad I have a HP Mini already.
I do not want to associate my thinkpads with a netbook.
@NeoDarkSaver Netbooks only wished they were Thinkpads.
As I do maintain, as long as it's black, has a trackpoint, an awesome keyboard and can still work after being run over by a truck, it's good enough to wear the Thinkpad name.
I wish more netbook manufacturers would use true edge to edge keyboards like HP and Dell though.
They have only about a millimeter of plastic bezel outside the keyboard edges: http://apcmag.com/images/mini10-front.jpg
@Ducman69
Agreed, the old ibm x40 was 10.5" wide with a 12.1" screen, now the x100e has a 11.6" screen but is 11.1" wide. The 10.5" width is perfect for me for wedging it between the front seats of my car as a portable entertainment player, unfortunately it's hard to find that width even in netbooks.
@Ducman69
The Eee PCs also have edge to edge keyboards, or at least the two that I own do.
@coolcanuck the x40 had a 4:3 ration screen.. that's why it had such a large screen. This thinkpad has a 16:10 or 16:9 screen so its wider. And i don't really get the revelance since ducman was talking about keyboard width.
@gargle 4:3 ratio* dang it
@gargle
The x40 uses a full size keyboard pushed to the edge and yet it's still narrower than the x100e and has a larger screen. I prefer the 4:3 screen ratio for my ultraportable, but it seems like everything is going widescreen now.
Question is, does the Atom version only come with the 10.1" screen?
You happy now?? All of you that has been asking for a netbook with a trackpoint for the last 2 years.
This is the laptop they are giving out to Australian Year 9 students this year. I believe they were specifically designed for the Australian government since they are buying a few hundred thousand of them.
Nice specs... Looks more rugged than the S10e too.
Okey... If they will add Nvidia ION or ION2 - then I WILL BUY IT!! -- if not - then Ill let it pass and wait for something with better gpu!
I would love it if Lenovo offered a ThinkPad X100 with a dual core Celeron like the Acer Aspire AS1410.
And get rid of the touchpad. If it was TrackPoint only, I'm sure they can shrink down the size by a little bit more.
