LG's ultraslim X300 launching in Asia, Middle East and South America this month (updated)
An 11.6-inch display fit within a thickness of 17.5mm. Sure, we're mixing up our measurement systems, but whichever way you slice it, the X300 is one extremely thin device. LG has now announced that availability in the Asian, Middle Eastern and South American markets will be forthcoming this month, though all we know on the topic of price is that it'll "vary country-by-country." With up to 2GB of RAM, integrated 3G, and a 128GB SSD option on tap, we'll even forgive the inclusion of a 2GHz Menlow CPU (Atom Z550) that places the X300 closer to Sony's VAIO X than the Core 2 Duo-driven MacBook Air that it aspires to be associated with. Check out our hands-on pics over here while we wait, hope and pray for a release on more familiar shores.
Update: We've now come across LG's Korean pricing, which is set at 1,590,000 Won ($1,424).

Que lindo!
@Engadet That's the more expensive model. I'd post the entry price 200,000 Won lower than what you guys did, but given that you guys don't state that the Z550 is an optional upgrade from the Z530 I guess it doesn't matter.

oh hello macbook keyboard.
@Jean Sony did it first.
I love thin laptops, but can it really stand up against Apple and Sony?
@The Gadgetking LG usually offers reasonable profit margins on their products, whereas Sony and Apple tend to make nice but grossly overpriced hardware making them uncompetitive in mainstream laptops.
@The Gadgetking Yeah, Apple just crushes in Asia, Middle East and South America...sarcasm.
@Atkins Yes, the anomaly that allows them to have about a 2.5 percent of users in Asia. (not sarcasm). Without Japan install base would be much closer to, or below 2% as China and India get less than 2% market share.
@juanvaldez Apple doesn't have an "Asia" (traditionally Korea, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Singapore and the rest of SE Asia) strategy, barely any marketing and no official stores of their own. They're only starting on a China entry strategy. Their relationships with Asian media distributors are weak. The only reason why Macs sell at all is that people are aware of what's going on in North America.
OK, just so that I know - you will be saying Menlow platform when you don't really wan to say Atom! Hence, after some googleing, eventually you realise that this will be an upmarket netbook.
Very pretty, which is all that really matters if you want to sell big

@juanvaldez Can scotch tape really support 1 kilo in that manner where 95% of the weight isn't tied to it and the tape is hardly fastened to the wall? Either way, it'scoo...
@juanvaldez
thanks, looks nice for travelling
will buy it!
love a nice thin laptop without that bulky VGA port
If anything I've learned about the multiple LG products over the years.
Nice looking, low grade.
Better off with Samsung, their build quality is amazing.
1500$ for a glorified netbook? Now that's a marketing challenge I'd like to see them pull off.
@69camaroSS You can get a thinkpad X201 for that with core i5 starting at 1.5 kg weight.
@69camaroSS It's a reasonable price for the Korean market. This is just cheaper than the Macbook here, MBP obviously costs more, MBA can't be bought for less than 2 grand. If it went to the states I'd expect it at 1200 or cheaper, though you'd still have license to complain depending on the audience.
@stoffer here's a comparison (sorry if you don't read metric):
LG X300: 970g, 17.5mm thick
Thinkpad X201s: 1256g, 20.32-35.56mm thick
The X201s is much faster, but it's 33% heavier and twice as thick at its thickest point. That said, the Thinkpad remains portable enough for most. That said, appearances market themselves. I know more than a few people who'd pick superthin and metallic over "Intel Core i7-640LM 2.13GHz, 4MB Cache blah blah blah ... "
@Atkins No, we're getting a more mobile, sexier but more expensive netbook.
@Atkins
this is ridiculous. my vision of a netbook was 6 years ago: cheap cpu, super thin without big ports like vga. it would do basic tasks all for $400.
why does a sexy netbook have to cost 1400?? asus and acer doesnt have anything like this LG for even $500
MacBook + iPhone bezel...??
Lord Ives approves.
@Atkins The LG X300 comes with LG’s Smart Pack software which is designed to synchronize your smartphone to the netbook via Bluetooth, which means you can read and reply to your text message directly from the netbook. Asia here we come! http://bit.ly/lg-x300-examined
@Zueq just wait till you find out what the vietnamese currency's called.
An Atom proc? At that price?
Why would I buy this when the Adamo 13 is now only $999?!
