Behold, the Nexus One car dock... and no, you still can't buy it (update: oh, yes you can!)
Mind you, this isn't the first time we've gotten a glimpse at Google's first-party car dock for the Nexus One; it got teased briefly back in February in the course of the phone's video docu-mercial series, yet we're well into the Spring months here and you still won't find any mounted on windshields. We're honestly not so sure how it can take four solid months for two corporate heavyweights -- Google and HTC, with a combined market cap of around $200 billion -- to put something like this together, but considering how prominently free Google Maps Navigation plays into Android's strategy these days, we'd argue there should be some serious pressure behind the scenes to get this thing launched. There's no launch date just yet, but the pretty picture comes courtesy of some new official documentation on the dock in Google's Nexus One website, touting its built-in speakers and charging capability -- so we're figuring (or at least hoping) that publishing this stuff is one of the last steps before these guys start taking orders. The dude who dredged up the help page says that he briefly saw the dock listed on Google's Nexus One order page for $55, $10 more than you'll pay for the desktop dock; that sounds about in line with what we'd expect, and it's still a hell of a value considering the additional street cred it affords your '77 Gremlin.
Update: And wouldn't you know, the dock just went on sale for $55. Enjoy!

It's says "You can't use Bluetooth headset with phone when it's docked" - what kinda sense does that make?
I know the 2 are very similar, but I would like confirmation that this can be used (and the same features accessed) when I get my HTC Desire at the end of this month.
I think the lack of Bluetooth availability while docked is going to be a big issue here. Doesn't affect me, but I could see how it could effect people with Bluetooth headsets and car stereos.
Is Bluetooth not capable of handling multiple connections or something?
If not, HTC should have just put a mini-USB plug in the dock, allowing the phone's Bluetooth function to stream audio to the stereo or allow the use of a headset.
If the device were $30 or $40, I guess such limitations could be overlooked. But at $55, you shouldn't expect such limitations.
I've got one ordered, even with the shipping charge to the UK I want one. Now that I have turn by turn on the N1 it has to have a proper dock with charger, even if it is expensive.
Can you just disable the Bluetooth to the dock? I have Bluetooth in my car and it works great, I don't want it on the dock or I want the ability to disable it.
@Brian But then it would be a $20 dock for which you are paying $55.
I understand that the car dock is not for everyone and is missing some features, but I don't use a Bluetooth headset and I don't have a AUX input in my car stereo anyway. It's a little pricey, sure, but I'm usually frugal anyway so screw it.
If this would have worked with bluetooth headsets, I'd still be hesitant because of the price and the fact I can't get hands on with it first. I'm concerned about the build as stated before. For those who don't need a BT headset, this might work out fine I guess. Still hard to believe they would make a dock that disables one's ability to use their BT headset, and in a day when hands free cell use laws are becoming more widespread.
I like the home dock but the car dock is a no go.
Apparently, it does work with bluetooth headsets according to Google.
I got mine.
The good: you can pair the phone with the car dock. It's audio BT enabled.
The good: it is solid.
The so bad it's STUPID: there is no audio out from the dock. You cannot hard wire the thing into your system to get audio from it. Your only option other than the cheese-ball speakers on the back of the dock is the headphone jack. What is the POINT? If all you're gonna do is NAV then OK. I can see it. But media? Forget it.
FAIL. Serious effing FAIL.
its not reliable, i have several complains of my clients
