HTC Droid Incredible shows up on official Verizon preview page -- coming April 29th (updated)
Official announcements be damned -- Verizon's just thrown up a "coming soon" preview page for the HTC Incredible. While we didn't necessarily need any more evidence this guy was real -- we've read its user's manual, we've spied shots of it in Verizon's system, and we've seen it in the wild enough times to sketch it quickly from memory with our eyes closed -- it's still exciting news to know that the inevitable unleashing of this beast is nearly upon us.
Update: They've changed up this page already (as you can see from our updated image) -- giving us the date of April 29th. And yes, they're calling it the Droid Incredible.
Update 2: You'll want to hit the read more and check out some photographic evidence of the Incredible making its way to T-Mobile via Costco stores -- it appears to be showing up in inventories now -- we'll keep you posted.
Update 3: And now the website is password protected. That's okay: we know what it said.
[Thanks, Ryan and James]

@N900
N900, the quality of your posts is besmirched by your choice of Coheed & Cambria avatar. Please remedy this immediately.
@Luke hehe, I have a new one in the works for this month, modeled after the Play/Pause button on my old MP3 player.
and come on, that was pretty cool album =].
This phone almost makes me wish I was on Verizon!
@thesafecigarette Could someone fill me in on this phone please? What makes it better than say, the upcoming Nokia N8?
@thesafecigarette
Is there enough time before LTE phones arrive to get through most of a contract on this puppy? If so, it's a no-brainer.
@thesafecigarette
why is it on verizons page and NOT on HTC'S homepage?
same thing with the EVO?
@Luke
I would think so. LTE won't show up until late this year or mid next year and like any new Tech it will have bugs. So by the time you contract is up, LTE should be up and running smoothly and there should be some good new phones out.
Far from the same thing as the EVO bro... smaller screen, no front facing camera, no 720p video, no hdmi port, no mifi for 8 people built in, NO WIMAX(4g)... no kick stand....
@ComboBreaker
Still, I'll be damned if that isn't one hot and tempting handset. It's like the fluffer for the EVO. Plus one awesomeness point for actually having a release date!!!
@ComboBreaker
Sprint just needs to announce their release date now.
@senormatt
I would like to have this for my wife and the EVO for myself, but alas two different carriers. Either one makes my Hero look like the kid that gets picked last for soccer :(
@thesafecigarette I think that's their point.
@thesafecigarette almost but not quite ready to pay 2x the price... waiting for Sprint HTC EVO 4G minus that disgusting back cover
@liquidmonkey
Maybe because HTC is very international-minded, and not purely American? Those phones for the American Market are awesome, but I doubt that market is as huge as..... the rest of the world..
@thesafecigarette
Why? HTC makes nice hardware but Android is FAIL. Too complicated and fragmented. The best solution is the simplest solution = iPhone 4.0. They need to buy Palm.
@Pure Calculus
You=BIG TIME FAIL.
@Luke If you're a current subscriber to Verizon just pay $30 more and get it on a 1 year contract. LTE won't be fully deployed by then (2013 for full deployment) and if you get LTE in your area they said no LTE phone till 2011 so at the very worst you may have the Incredible a few months beyond when the first LTE phone hits.
@ComboBreaker
One major winning point for the Verizon Device is the screen tech, the Incredible has OLED screen where as the EVO 4G has the TFT.
Do a youtube search on "OLED TFT" and you will see some examples of the two screens. The part the concerns me the most is that I would not be able to see anything on the screen on a sunny day with the EVO 4G.
@thesafecigarette
If I could afford Verizons rates, I'd buy this phone in a heartbeat! So, I guess I'll have to settle with tried and trued Sprint and go with the EVO 4G. You know the one with the 4.3inch screen and HDMI out complete with a front facing cam. Sucks to me..
@ComboBreaker
One thing that the Incredible has on the EVO 4G is the screen tech, OLED on Incredible vs. TFT on EVO 4G, viewing the TFT screen on a sunny day should be almost impossible where as the OLED is quite nice.
Do a search on youtube for "OLED TFT" and see for yourself the comparisons, the best one I found was the 2 cameras.
@thesafecigarette almost...but not quite.
@ComboBreaker Hmm I heard it actually shots 720p but thats just me.
However, it doesnt matter if the incredible beats the evo, when it comes out it will be the best phone in the world for like 2 months because its bests the N1 and probably the next iPhone as well.
@thesafecigarette
Just Imagine if the Verizon`s ads for Motorola Droid were killers (even Palm CEO recognizes this as important for Palm phones going down), imagine the new ads for the Incredible.
@thesafecigarette Its going to T MOBILE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@senormatt I concur!!!
@Pure Calculus Sorry... some people like doing what they can with their phone their way, rather than the Steve Jobs way.
@Pure Calculus
Fragmentation is an issue how with 2.1?
also complications are personal, don't project your shortcomings onto others
@thesafecigarette Yes, it has a resemblances like the N1 and other HTC design. Packing along with that Snapdragon makes it more incredible. First View. http://j.mp/incredible-by-htc
@senormatt
AH!.
VZW has Droid/Incredible
Sprint has EVO/LG slider?
T-mo? WHERE ARE YOU (myTouch slide doesn't cut it!)
And of course,
AT&T has crippled anything Android.
@recharged95
Nexus One?
@iLoveApple Why its so special is because HTC's hardware is impeccable, its fabulously spec'd and its running the latest Android software. The Nokia I believe, is running 1.6 though I may be mistaken. Verizon is still the largest US carrier and its believed that this is THE device to really boost Android even more.
@thesafecigarette: It still doesn't oust the Evo. Until a phone better than the Evo comes, I'm not moving my sights. I like it, but it's just not the Evo. Unless it's better than the Evo, it has no reason to exist. Even if the price point is 1/8 of the Evo's, my sights are still on the Evo.
@Shemploo
i don't know who is right on that argument. it seems like every source I check have the two switched. one version says TFT is better and others say OLED is better, and the same goes for AMOLED.
Like this video for example:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1EqEZe3lcI
according to this, TFT beats the OLED.
I'm confused.
@ComboBreaker
He meant 'same thing with the EVO' as in it also isn't listed on the HTC site. Reading comprehension bro.
@thesafecigarette
I like how are are now seeing all the HTC phones that were in the original roadmap exactly over a year ago!
Its great to see that they indeed came true and not just vaporware!
I've been an HTC fan since 2005... sooo i need some kind of rewards program ^_^
@jawman
LCDs are brighter and have better sunlight visibility, AMOLEDs have much better black level and thus better contrast. Also colours are more vivid on AMOLED screen, but are often oversaturated and unnatural. Samsung new Super AMOLED displays are supposed to be as bright as LCDs, but aren't yet available on the market.
@thesafecigarette
don't feel that way.. Wait til the iPhone goes to
verizonwireless. Android will die..my friends have
droids and they are all hettj g an iPhone
@ComboBreaker I will agree and say the EVO looks awesome, but first off, the wimax footprint is so small it might as well not be 4g and since it's not 4g what are you going to do with that front facing camera, not to mention the screen is TFT(boo!) and 720p would be nice, not going to lie, but the Incredible also has 8gb of internal memory for apps, unlike the EVO and I also like the way you used the word "MiFi"(Verizon's hot spot) but I think(don't quote me) from the specs it will have broadband connect for up to 5 items, again though with sprint if it is not 4g who cares, lastly the kickstand, really you added this, and be for real are you ever going to use the hdmi port or is it just something nice to fluff the specs. Oh did I mention it has an actual date not "Summer".
@Son0fsocal
I'm sorry but you are gravely mistaken. This phone and the EVO are going to take a bite out of the other side of "that apple"
@thesafecigarette uh.. tmobile!? im taking this hd2 back,I need android!! I wish I would have known this last wk.. but at least I got to play on this huge screen for a bit!
@Stefan Witkamp
being in sweden i totally get what your saying but HTC's website has different pages for different countries so why wouldn't they put these mobiles on the north american pages?
either way, i don't get all this verizon this and at&t that stuff.
just bring the EVO to europe with a super amoled screen and be done with it ;) oh, and add 720p cam recording too
@Shemploo You've got it mixed up, viewing on a sunny day is the biggest drawback of OLED, the one area where LCD clearly has it beat.
@Shemploo i have seen multiple videos on phones where the oled screen was much worse in sunlight than a old tft display. but i did watch that video with the cameras and it was opposite of what i have seen... weird
@TheLukeSkywalker
im right there with you man. its painful to see such a good phone go to a carrier that i cant be on. now i have to wait even longer and will not be satisfied until something BETTER comes out than the evo. imagine that, im still not satisfied with a phone that isnt even out yet that, at this time, is the best thing on the market.
feels like it will be a year until a phone worthy of my money will be around
@Pure Calculus
you are a MORON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Shemploo
I really don't understand peoples' gripes with screens like this. People seem to complain about it a lot but I never see the huge issue that everyone makes it out to be. I know it's hardER to read the screen on a sunny day but honestly simply shielding the sun with my hand solves the problem for me and I'm able to see what I'm doing just fine. The kind of screen will never be a dealbreaker for me. Especially when the huge crapload of features the EVO is packing.
@worldbfree4me
No need to be a smug jerk about it..just rub it all in me and my Droid's face.
And also, stupid move for Verizon naming all their Android phones Droid of some sort. You have the Droid, then the Droid Eris, and no Droid Incredible? Kinda takes the individuality away from the Moto Droid.
@andyman8662
exactly!! some videos/reviews show that OLED > TFT, while others say TFT > OLED.
wtf! i'm so confused. i guess i'll just have to verify in person.
@thesafecigarette Except Sprint has better plan rates than Verizon, and this aint no Evo.
You can get to the sign up page by just removing the "stage" from the addy.
