Dell Aero details confirmed with new leak: 624MHz processor, handwriting support, DRM

More interesting is software. Like Motorola's CLIQ, Aero comes with QuickOffice right out of the box, and supports Microsoft ActiveSync and Exchange to ostensibly keep in touch with your business. For the social crowd, there's on-device photo editing and "aggregated notifications" for the bevy of social networks Dell's agreed to support. While you probably knew the device would have a WebKit browser with Flash Lite, leaks reveal it will have a robust media player as well -- robust enough to have some sort of music streaming and download ability (PlayReady, anyone?) protected by Windows Media DRM. Though it's probably still Android 1.5 onboard, docs show Dell plans a "refresh" to Android 2.1 sometime between Q3 and Q4, but it's hard to say whether the Aero will get an OTA update, or whether only new Aeros will ship with Eclair. That said, given the relative insignificance of this handset compared to its new big brothers, we're more than willing to wait and find out.

How many leaks are there? This is pretty awesome.
@freecajunlove
The leaks are awesome, but that screen full of icons plus background image... wtf? Looks like's a teenager's really bad MySpace page.
@freecajunlove
Five dollars says Apple leaked all this stuff to take the attention off their leak.
@freecajunlove
Damn Dell, sloww dowwnnnn, but i'm lovin it
http://ndrw.me/2010/04/21/engadget-vs-gizmodo-april-21st-edition/
Now who's the fanboy?
@freecajunlove Dell is on a KILLING SPREE.
@freecajunlove
Did dell buy Engadget? Or has Engadget been hacked by Dell? What's going on here?
@tonicboy Yeah. This phone UI isn't that great. I do like the Studio XPS design though.
@freecajunlove
Looks like Michael Dell left his laptop at a pub.
@freecajunlove let me shout to you this:
THE DELL AERO MAKES THE NEXUS, APPLE, HTC ETC TOUCHSCREEN PHONES WEEP!
this design is the sleakest of them all.
Whoa Dell, calm your mobile "STREAK", you're "FLOODING" with all these "STORMS"!
@MacRules
Don't worry about it. Dell forked over millions of doll-hairs to Engadget.
Trips for Engadget employees were just minor incentives on 7 posts in a row;)
@emopoops
sleekest.
@mrpixel hahaha thats great
@Xg21g2d4
There should be a poll, asking which phone one would pick out of all dell phones.
- Aero
- Lightning
- Thunder
- Flash
- Smoke
/Whatever else may come.
Id pick thunder :)
But thats only if I had to choose dell. I think id go with the EVO 4g, but its not in canada, so I dont know what to do until then lol :P
@mrpixel
LOL
@freecajunlove Like this phone, its somewhat cute, although that bulge should be slimmed down. Anyway there's a lot of room for improvement here. First reaction-- http://j.mp/aero-by-dell-impressions
Lol.
"Leaks"?
@ashleythehottiest Agreed. I probably should have put quotations around "leaks"
@ashleythehottiest They're leaks, we wouldn't play you like that.
@Nilay Patel Not saying you are misleading us. Just seems too good to be true. Either way, you're still the classiest tech blog.
@Nilay Patel : Oh shux Nilay, we already told you: we are labeling it 'leaks' because YOU didn't leak it, but DELL did.
No.
Wow.
floods lol
@dontbotherme Yes
No thanks.
@Physicsguy89 Yeah real world pics of this phone are pretty ugly.
Not quite sure that these are leaks. The timing is a little too perfect.
Okay, Google really needs to stop allowing developers to use 1.5. That is completely sad. It's not like 1.6 has higher requirements. 2.1 should be here at launch now, not later.
Android is oss. They can't completely control what people do with it.
@Dafrety
Obviously Dell is going for the retro feel with this phone. Why else would anyone put Android 1.5 and a sub-1 GHz processor in a phone in the year 2010?
DO. NOT. WANT.
who would have ever thought a company other than apple would get 4/5 of the top posts currently on engadget! way to go Dell!!
dell,round of aplause to you.not only for the good phones but also the awesome name's,lightning, thunder, flash,smoke and now aero!
you guys are cooking up a storm!
pun intended
*sigh* soon there will be a lenovo thinkphone....
@Densta0607
Actually, there will be the LePhone by Lenovo. And hopefully, we can have a whole slew of LENOVO leaks someday! =D
@kb24istrash
oh dear... im going to enjoy this downranking far more than i should.
Seeing what Dell planned makes me even more optimistic with what HTC has in mind. Of course HTC won't leak anything out because they have Incredible and EVO 4G sales to worry about...
Eh, least interesting of the phones. Mostly because At&t hinders Android on this one, but if they eventually come out with a T-Mo version that isn't as messed up maybe, it'll be worth it.
@skyblaze Ok - You've been downranked, but only because you asked for it you naughty boy.
Alright, now I can fully say, number SEVEN! With SIX breaking. Go Dell, I'm backing you =D
@kb24istrash
Yes downrank the TRUTH.
That's typical of you android fanboys.
OMFG no one can point out our hypocrisy...
X7 COOOOOOOMMBOOOOoooo
DON'T YOU DARE POST ANOTHER DELL STORY ENGADGET. THIS IS TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL. IT'S BIASED NEWSREPORTING.
ITS ILLEGAL.
ITS A TRAVESTY.
ITS A CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY
ITS A CONSPIRACY.
HOW MUCH IS DELL PAYING YOU.
WHY MUST EVERYTHING BE ANDROID THIS ANDROID THAT..
WHERES MY IPAD OPTIMIZED ENGADGET APP...WHERE IS IT?
The iTunes App Store.
@TheLondonExchange Well, we do have to admit that there were more posts about Apple covering only one device (iPad this, iPad that). Still now that there are a lot of Dell news, half of which I have no interest whatsoever (phones-awesome, tablets-not interested), what do I do - I just friggin' scroll down. It is that easy. Let's not give a bad example, even if Apple posts are drowning in irrelevant comments.
On the topic - these Dell phones are awesome. Suddenly I am losing interest in the iPhone. It's all getting more serious now and I like it!
@Atkins
You have my +1.
Lets not act childish London by bantering on non-apple posts. I dont troll so neither should you. Hell, everyone needs to stop cause it gets old and takes away from the post. You can get lost in the shuffle with these wars. Lets stop please. Thank you.
Before Dell dives into the smartphone business, they have to realize that the phones they will should sell should only look like the smoke, flash, thunder, and lightning. and the Dell Aero should never make it out to the market.
@weinerschnitzelboy
Huh?
The Aero is pure win against the pure shit that MS is pimpin out with the Kin..
Seriously think about what you're saying. If the Aero is even $100 then it's automatically a contender against all the phones out there.
I myself would consider getting one for a child.
