Keepin' it real fake: MacBook Pro knockoff rocks Ion 2, thinks itself fly
We've stumbled across any number of MacBook Air KIRFs, but it's not often we see a worthy representation of Cupertino's heftier model. Never underestimate Shenzhen. This "Dragonfly QT Pro" not only features a familiar aluminum alloy shell, the 14-inch, 1366 x 768 netbook's also got Ion 2 switchable graphics ahead of its Acer and ASUS cousins. A 1.66GHz Atom D410 and 1GB of memory help pump out 1080p video while keeping case temperatures at a lap-happy 36 degrees Celsius, while a 160GB hard drive, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi and HDMI (take that, Mini DisplayPort) round out a 4.2 pound, roughly $3000 RMB (about $440) package. Shame it only gets 2 hours of battery life, eh?

If the Shenzen version of your product has certain features that are more useful than your original (ahem, HDMI), you blew it.
@Mr Oos if you can't keep the computer running for more than 2 hours on the battery, you also blew it though.
@safe travels
Agreed. And the lid design pretty much kills it anyway.
@Mr Oos
What, you don't think it looks PRETTY?? Like a pretty little butterfly...... fly fly my pretty little butterfly.... right into the garbage can where you belong. *dunk*
@Mr Oos
I'm in university and I see numerous MacBook and the Pro variants.
The only person I know who uses a MacBook Air (and the only person I've ever SEEN using one in my life at all) is an 80 year old professor who probably can't lift anymore weight than Mr. Burns.
@kloan
Does it have to be me? Do I really have to be the one? OK, here goes:
It's a dragonfly, not a butterfly.
There.
@Outsider There were actually thousands of Macbook Airs there. You just can't sense them without having clues like counselor Troi losing her empathic abilities and your starship becoming trapped in a swarm of them that are angled in such a way as to render them invisible.
JK, ya the Air kinda sucks, heh!

@Ducman69
The video you linked only shows that a computer with SSD boots faster than one with HD. Such a surprise!
@Outsider Yeah but you are prolly in china anyways. Y'all don't even know real quality products if they smacked y'all in the face. Chinese build stuff that looks like the real thong but after using for a mete few minutes it becomes painfully obvious that it's not authentic

I actually really like this, heh. I think the logo is pretty classy, too. What kills it for me is the battery life, but otherwise... yeah.
Nawww.
I think my asus eee pc 1005HA is good.
@albinomexi I concur, especially with a windows 7/UNR 10.4 dual boot. :-)
It's pretty cheap; I'm just not completely certain of which definition of cheap it is.
@Jon Presco
Likely both. Then again you get what you pay for.
@XGM Too bad that design on the lid is pretty gaudy too.
hackintosh anyone?.....neah
D410 is a desktop processor! haha no shit it gets 2 hrs. I wonder if its the desktop ion 2 with 16 cores vs just 8.
@dds1043
the read link says its running a D510 and 3 hrs of battery life
Just saying.
Why don't they sell some KIRFs in the states? I would buy one.
@iHakr
Heh, cause they would be sued..happens every year at shows like CeBIT, etc...Although I'm no expert on chinese law -- there have got to be some serious loopholes over there regarding patents and intellectual property..either that or the gov just doesn't care.
@DoctarPeppar There are copyright and patent laws here in China, but they're very rarely enforced (if ever). KIRFs like the featured 'Macbook', are openly on sale pretty much everywhere in Guangdong Province.
So basically, any laptop/computer made with a simplistic design is a mac knockoff?
@Kamil R If you saw the read link pictures, you'd see it's a very blatant ripoff.
@Kamil R agreed. However, I do believe that apple invented aluminum... i mean iluminum
@KupoCheer my bad. I just saw those. it is pretty much a ripoff. apparently this company only makes replicas too. ha
@brettlewis
Yeah, on second thought, its a rip off. Sorry for the mishap.
The keyboard and the track pad.... Jeez.
This looks real nice.
This + hackintosh = WIN!
@Caprice Dates uncool
@Tagber
So,
Can't believe no one's said this yet...
Is the battery replaceable?
If this thing could have a bigger battery (and I wonder about the trackpad..) it'd be almost totally awesome.
Yeah, the battery life is surprisingly bad...chalk that up to the graphics card and probably a wimpy battery...and the lid is uninteresting looking. Other than that, these Chinese knockoffs are getting a lot closer to what I want in a netbook/laptop than Apple or Asus have been putting out recently.
The price gives me HOPE that the sexy Asus from earlier today will be sub-$500 too....
"The Internet is for "Atom N450", single-core dual-thread, clocked at 1.66GHz, 2 cache 512KB, supports DDR2-667 memory, the maximum capacity of 2GB, thermal design power of 5.5W. Atom N470 1.83GHz将在下半年跟进。 Atom N470 1.83GHz will follow in the second half."
thats funny, i though the internet was for porn...
pretty nice kirf not bad at all expect the shitty battery
gotta get 1
-Karedia
Why would you want this? I'd never buy a knock off
beautiful logo.
so they only need to re-do everything else.
LOVE the dragonfly logo. I don't give a rat's ass about the computer. It could be a Trapper Keeper for all I care.
@engadget
It isn't proper to list both a $ sign AND "RMB" for prices. Prices generally will only be in one currency. "three thousand dollars rmb" doesn't make sense, because RMB = "ren min bi" = "the people's currency," which in China is yuan, not dollars.
Since IP seems to have so little weight in China, why hasn't someone released a genuine Mac clone? They don't have to look like a Mac as long as they run OS X as well as a genuine. I know about the OSX86 project but for those people who doesn't wish to mess about with drivers etc it could be pure win.
One can always buy these and have them shipped for a low price but you can tweak you computer and have a mac lookalike easily guys.
