Celebrity Nerds: Oprah has an EVO 4G and you don't
Celebrity Nerds confirms what you always knew, deep in your heart of hearts: that stars are nerds like us. Send in your own confirmations of this fact right here.
We wish we could tell you that Oprah caused a small riot in Chicago by handing out HTC EVO 4Gs to everyone in her audience but, alas, she seems to have just kept this one for herself. More specifically, she used the "fancy new" phone to show "those of you who actually know how to text" how easy it is to sign her "No Phone Zone" pledge. No discounts, no Bono, just a fleeting glimpse of one of the most anticipated phones of the year. Head on past the break for the video evidence of this momentous event.

Pwned.
@N900
I'm going to go rob oprah brb
@N900 the audience has to pay the high monthly fee for 4G data connection?
@htd
This has already been said, but I'll say it for you again:
The 4G data is included with the regular plan pricing for the phone only. Now, if you want to use the phone as a "MiFi" router/modem for up to those 8 devices, you will have to fork over the extra cash.
@LiqwidZero
Been hearing this a lot myself, which honestly, is incredibly awesome. I might fork over the cash though and charge people money to use it, but I'm just a cheap asshole.
@N900
I would rather not have a evo 4g versus having to watch opera
@N900
soooo she's trying to promote no phone zones or whatever through showing off the best one to be released?? counter intuitive much?
@N900
she also has an annoying personality that i do not have...no skin off my back.
@LiqwidZero Really? I hadn't seen any information on plan pricing. Where is your information coming from?
@N900
I bet the audience thought the new device is some sort of tool for the kitchen.
This is a no-brainer, Disney and Sprint are partners, Sprint and Disney have that huge event on May 12th. Disney owns ABC which carries the Oprah show. Brilliant marketing on Sprints behalf.
@TickLe MY eLMo Probably unnecessary since she might give all her audiences one for free. You just need to attend.
@N900
Eff oprah.
@scorpeo: Actually, Oprah is on all four big networks (CBS, NBC, ABC and Fox) around the country, but the show is technically owned by CBS.
@LiqwidZero Everyone always assumes the hotspot feature is going to cost more, but the only time Sprint has even hinted at pricing was when Hesse kept saying at CTIA how "Sprint can offer this amazing experience for no extra cost." I'm guessing Sprint will not charge extra for the Hotspot functionality.
@ReiRei0 Probably speculation based on the fact that 4G doesn't incur any additional cost for mobile data cards. I think it's a pretty safe bet that the current plans will have 4G included at no additional cost.
@TickLe MY eLMo ROTFLMAO! Tell her to send me a ticket for the Christmas giveaway. I want to be there when she says, "and you get a phone, and you get a phone, and you get a phone!"
@TickLe MY eLMo
Chances are you won't be.
@TickLe MY eLMo
lol
@ReiRei0 People assume it won't cost extra for 4G on the device because it's like charging you extra for 3G over GPRS 2G. You are transmitting data, that's what you pay for; usage, not the means you use...
@Volker Tell that to AT&T. iPhone 3G data costs more than iPhone 2G (EDGE) data.
@Elranzer, I realize that, the relation the EVO now has with Oprah is obviously through ABC, which is owned by Disney. ABC is the major carrier of the Oprah show. This is no coincidence, as I've said Sprint and Disney have a major event on May 12th.
@N900
Let's Nab Oprah
@Frankenstein
Since I have to battle misinformation on a daily basis at the store, allow me to step in here. Using 4G in an area that has the coverage will carry no additional cost. Phone as modem use however, will come at a pride that is T.B.D. I'm pretty sure that info was in the press release. Regardless, phone as modem is never free directly through Sprint. Of course with it being an Android device, I'm sure the guys over at XDA will have a free wireless tether solution worked up in a jiffy. :)
@ready 2 rumble *edit* price...i really need an edit button
So the Evo is for Oprah fans?
@TickLe MY eLMo
I just wish there were 4G around here, but I can wait (it'll be a very long wait for 4G and LTE, in northern Alabama). I'd even pay for the WiFi tethering option, if we had 4G here. The unlimited usage is just so very enticing.
@N900
That B****!
@ready 2 rumble Yeah, I definitely don't want to spread misinformation, but I still believe there's a chance it will be free, esp considering Verizon is offering it free on the Pre. Do you have a link to that press release? The only reference to additional hotspot cost that I have seen was posted here as "internal rumblings" or something similar. Everything else has been pure assumption. I think there is a good chance sprint's aggressive pricing will include free hotspot.
@TickLe MY eLMo
Where's Tom Cruise when you need a good distraction?
@scorpeo Steve jobs is majority holder in Disney (7%) IRONY??
@tmurph i know, i hate opera, the singing is boring.
heh heh
@scorpeo That's not "brilliant" marketing. It's obvious marketing. Even someone with half a brain could figure out how to use all the "free" resources available to market the phone.
Now whoever is designing the web page for Sprint's 4G service, that's brilliance. Sprint has one of the best interactive web pages I have ever seen for a product/service promotion.

@N900
she also got a big mouth and a big fat 4ss but t that I'm glad I dont have, so I dont give a rat 4ss!
@N900
God does not exist if Oprah gets something like this
@TickLe MY eLMo The mere thought of the 4G makes me excited already. I say release it this summer! Superphone comparison. http://bit.ly/evo-4g-comparisson-superphone
@tmurph I dont like opera music or oprah either
It's just shown for a few seconds. But what's important is that, When Oprah used it, It's hot.
@staticjethro Man, I hope she reviews it before she eats it.
@Tammacho
LOL! Wow - very few comments cause me to burst into audible laughter ... but you, sir, have achieved just that. Bravo.
@Tammacho lol.
@staticjethro
What we didn't see in the clip was the part where the EVO pimp-slapped Oprah and commanded her to give it a mention on her show. That's just a bad mamma-jamma of a phone!
She thinks evo is some kind of new cake.....
@Tammacho That is hilarious. I cracked up when I saw your comment.
WTF!
@Seven2k
Exactly my thoughts...now gimme one...
Wonder if on launch date tickets for the Oprah show will be really high? If not, I'm gonna buy a ticket and get myself a free Evo when she hands it out.
@ac2913
How about you buy ticket to Oprah show and get one for free.I'd love one too, so many that 2 tickets and I'll chip in cash for the tix! lol
Who gives a F what Oprah says?
He then died.
