HTC EVO 4G training begins at Sprint, reveals a few surprises
The HTC EVO 4G has already turned up in Sprint's inventory, hit the FCC, and pushed away anything in its path, and it looks like it's now hit one more milestone on its way to availability: the all-important Sprint employee training program. While there's still no indication of an actual release date, the training materials do reveal a few new details, including the first real indication that customers who buy the phone will also have to sign up for special "plans designed for the HTC EVO 4G" -- details on those plans remain a mystery, unfortunately. The materials also seem to suggest that both Sprint Navigation and Google Navigation will be present on the device, that the hotspot feature will support WEP and WPA encryption, and that phone does indeed pack an FM radio. Hit up the source link below for a look at the rest of the materials.

I love sense UI.
@Grubasaurus Rex
The mention of "special tailored plans" remind me of bad memories of $30 mandatory data plans!
@Grubasaurus Rex
androids most downloaded app is a task manager. that says everything.
@who said what
I just had a thought of not buying this phone because of that same problem... Don't these phone co. make enough money?
@account5
Lol, it's because everyone is scared into using it. I don't even have it on my phone and don't have a problem. If I do have an app issue I do the same thing someone with an iphone would do. Turn it off and turn it back on.
@account5 That's not what the Android market says. And even if it did, all it says is that a task manager isn't included.
@who said what
A BIG question is whether this Android phone will have TRUE hands-free Bluetooth operation????
Those who have any of the latest Android phones, know exactly to what issue I am referring.
I hope so, because the Motorola Droid doesn't, the HTC Hero doesn't, etc.
PLEASE HAVE TRUE BLUETOOTH OPERATION!!!!!
@account5
Well aren't you the cutest little troll! I can push a button and have every running task killed simultaneously. Or I can just choose which task to kill. Try that with your OS 4.0.
@Grubasaurus Rex The Key for Sprint for this phone to be successful is Advertisement, becuase with the next gen iPhone around the corner its gonna be hard even though this blow the next gen iPhone out of the water is all up to Sprint to choose how they advertise it and lets not hope its nothing like the wierd Palm Pre commercial's that made absolutely no sense what so ever so Sprint spend 100 million on Advertisement like you did with that crappy Samsung Instinct..But this is mosdef my next phone screw iPhone OS 4!!!
@Justin Bieber 3 I have to say that is one of my main concerns. The phone coming tied with an expensive plan. What attracts me to Sprint is their $69.99 deal Anytime, any mobile. I know 4G is better than 3G and all that, but, I am not sure if I would pay more. Let's see what happens. I hope they don't push you into the Unlimited $99.99 or something around those numbers. I really don't even talk that much....
@account5
God damn all you do is hate on android huh? Just stfu already no one is making you use it. I prefer android over any other mobile os but that's just me. People can have different opinions. Task managers are actually bull shit on android. I used one for a while then realized android does a better job at managing tasks then I do.
@Grubasaurus Rex
Android is so overhyped...
Glad Apple called them out on their shit....
@TheLondonExchange
what is this? i don even...
@account5
You like repeating yourself huh? If you OWNED an Android phone you would find NO reason to download a task manager. Those are downloaded per uninformed verizon lackeys telling every noob to "install first thing". Being a linux type of dude, I had to correct the dumbass in front of an unsuspecting noob (kinda like you).
@TheLondonExchange
The only thing that's overhyped is Apple garbage by the likes of you.
You must be pissing your pants in anger because of how well Android is doing, just like Stevo the great.
@TikiTeko
I'm worried about that also. I want to get rid of AT&T to save some money but will this 'special pricing' make it so I won't...
@account5
As of now, the current top paid app is Beautiful Widgets and the top free app is Google maps. Task killers aren't even in the top 10 in either category.
That says everything about iFans.
@Grubasaurus Rex Bring on Evo!!!!!!!
@TheLondonExchange you are the biggest hipocrite I have ever seen. Just a week ago you was yelling at the top of your lungs about how "android fanboys" need to stop posting in apple articles then you say some bullshit like this in an article about the EVO 4G which is actually going to eat the iPhones lunch spec wise
@Grubasaurus Rex
I ordered my incredible on the 20th, and it still hasn't arrived. Man, if the EVO 4G hits before my phone shows up, I'm going to have to choke a bitch...
@who said what It just sounds like you have to have one of their data bundled plans, which really aren't a bad deal anyways. And frankly it'd be kinda idiotic to buy an EVO 4G without one of their unlimited data/text/mobiletomobile plans anyway.
@who said what
Sprint better not F this one up. I'm on a corporate Sprint plan that's been around for decades. I don't have much control over the plan, so if I'm boxed out from getting this phone, I'm gonna be irate
@TikiTeko "I hope they don't push you into the Unlimited $99.99 or something around those numbers. I really don't even talk that much...."
This is when unlocked phone ftw!!! Customize your own plan. I just wish that prepaid sim offer 3g but sadly they don't or I'm not looking hard enough. Then again, the $69.99 deal seem better than the other guys. But they will/might hit you with taxes and fees that pushes the price to $80 or more. My T-Mo plan is $79.99 but I have to pay $90+ every month which is too much and I only use less than 20min talk time every month. However, my previous AT&T charge almost the exact price they promise and don't BS around like T-Mo. Next month = Sprint.
I have a serious problem. The only comments I like to read are the ones that are down-ranked. They amuse me :D
@angermeans I wouldn't say that the EVO 4G beats the iPhone4 spec. wise. Probably in some areas but may loose when it comes to screen resolutions and other things.
Still it comes out now and the iPhone 5 doesn't come out for another year so we can be sure to have an even better Android handset by autumn or winter. I love it.
The biggest problem of the iPhone is however the lack of design and form-factor choices. We have the same - by now lame - iPhone design for years, than a grown iPhone called iPad which is even more boring in my view. Finally we might have a slight design change by iPhone4, BUT the iPhoneOS4 will look more or less the same unless you think changeable wallpapers are a big step.
This consistency in design and usage may be fantastic for some users but for me it is simply just boring.
@Grubasaurus Rex
"If EVO 4G is the iphone 4G killer, WE BLEW IT"
Steve Jobs (sent from his moribund iphone)
GO Android
I want an EVO 4G NOW
@Ted S Reportedly, the Milestone 2.1 update in Europe includes it. Yet another feature that wasn't included in the Droid update.
lol hey hey now guys, i still use my task manager on my nexus one but just out of habbit from windows mobile >< lolz /heart nexusone DROID DOES B@TCHES
@Shooter McGavin I say bring the Evo fever. Been waiting this ever since it was first posted publicly here. Opinions - http://j.mp/4g-by-evo-amazing-matchup
@jareth86
Haha I pissed in my pants after reading that!
@account5 seriously do you go on every engadget story and bash it. Sir you are the biggest troll you hate EVERYTHING. Move out your parents basement and get a life!
God its a nice phone....
@Seb6554
They act like it doesn't include EVERYTHING.
Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if it came with foldable swiss army knife built in.
@SolidSnake
does it have an OLED screen?
GSM network (instead of dying cdma)?
light weight?
good os?
thought so
@Seb6554
Yes it's an awesome phone!
....but will this phone have TRUE Bluetooth operation?
If it doesn't (Like other Android phones such as the Motorola Droid, HTC Hero, HTC Eris, Google Phone, etc).....WHY????
The problem can't be hardware, so is the PROBLEM related to software or patent rights???
DOES ANYONE KNOW THE ANSWER????
HTC EVO, PLEASE have TRUE Bluetooth operation!!!!
@Seb6554 Except it doesn't work at all outside the US.
@account5
does it have an OLED screen?
No, still it's a fantastic screen, not a real dealbreaker. It's got the HDMI outputs, so it's a bit of a wash.
GSM network (instead of dying cdma)?
It's Sprint. What do you expect.
light weight?
Yes.
good os?
Very much yes.
thought so
@SolidSnake lol. The EVO also comes with a retractable spoon, flashlight, a cure for Apple Fanboy Syndrome, Common SENSE UI for Steve Jobs ( Get into Flash already man!), and 49,000 Battle Droids to defend it against the iVil iMpire iRmy.
@Seb6554
Hardware wise its nice...just like the Droid Incredible and the Nexus One were before it...
However does that mean that performance will be snappy? Internet fast?
For all the hate on the iPhone I have yet to be frustrated by its performance...at all.
@TikiTeko
If I had to choose 40,000 religious fanatics to back or 40,000 battle droids.... I'd back the battle droids all the way! pew pew ftw.
@account5 I dont think youve gotten the hang of it yet, time for account6.
@coolblue830
hey with a non-oled it's still a nice screen that you can read in the sunlight
@SolidSnake
I know! It's a great phone, but since when is a 1500mAh battery a good thing in a phone this size? It's not bad, but that's on the low side for heavy usage. (And I don't know what the power requirements of 4G are, hopefully better than EVDO…)
Power management has come a long way, but smart phones have yet to truly match a dumb phone. (And the might not ever, really.) I just wish we'd start to see some really battery innovation. From HTC, Moto, LG, Apple-whoever. Let's get 2,000 mAh in a smaller size, get phones (or laptops) that really last a day and now we're talking! :)
@cycomachead
You know that it's cross-town cousin the HD2 only has a 1230 mAh battery right? http://www.htc.com/us/products/t-mobile-hd2/#tech-specs
That's a pretty healthy increase in capacity for a phone where the only difference is the OS and the radios.
@TheLondonExchange "ardware wise its nice...just like the Droid Incredible and the Nexus One were before it..."
Not really, N1 has noise canceling mic, amoled screen, and the trackball which I think is useful when I don't want to grease up the screen with finger or scrolling through long pages while keeping the same proportion. My only concern for the EVO is battery life given the huge screen.
@account5
No its got a screen you can see outside.
@TheLondonExchange thats funny because i was incredibly frustrated by its lack of a full OS, my need to jailbreak it to have it work and my need to send it in every single time the POS phone stopped working or the battery went to hell... im glad your ok with lackluster phones but the rest of us need super phones... not iPhails
@Seb6554
Puts every handset ever released to shame, except the Galaxy S when it drops and will probably still maintain that status for the rest of the year.....me thinks. Call me crazy!
@cycomachead
The battery that came with the incredible is just an absolute joke, and the screen on the EVO IS WAY BIGGER with only a slightly bigger battery! I have to say I have never ever had battery issues with any of my blackberries or my iPhone 3Gs. Not to mention my incredible is buggy as hell. EVO looks sick, but I have to say I dont believe HTC IS really ready for prime time. I'm not a fan boy of any one company, but my iPhone works and feels like a tank compared to my incredible, hopefully the EVO will change my feelings. Otherwise its back on the Apple train and off the Android one.
@account5
LTE...WiMAX...neither of these are GSM or CDMA,genius.COMPLETELY different technologies and bandwidths.
