Samsung Galaxy S and Wave 'coming soon' to Vodafone UK
Perhaps eager to steal some of the thunder from Everything Everywhere's recent debut, Vodafone has updated its Coming Soon page to show a selection of new handsets, which is highlighted by Samsung's pair of Super AMOLED beasts, the Wave and Galaxy S. The Wave brings the new Bada sensibility to British shores, while the Galaxy S will be pretty much the most advanced Android handset the UK has yet seen. It runs version 2.1 with Samsung's own skin on top, but it's the hardware behind it that'll be pushing Brits to upgrade. Hit the source link to peruse the full list, which also includes the new BlackBerry Pearl 3G, but do remember to be patient -- an Amazon pre-order listing for the Wave (priced at £350, or 521 greenbacks) indicates a one to three month waiting period.

I feel a tiny bit less jealous of the USA getting the EVO 4G now. Super AMOLED goodness coming to the UK!
@weeman I don't know the markets for the Galaxy A, but it's super AMOLED so indeed they have a "set" rather than a pair of super AMOLEDs.
Expect a June launch date for the Galaxy S and the same for the Wave if are in line with the Korean launch and in regards to the latter with specific regards to their manufacturing schedule as the Wave might get delayed due to priorities/screen supply.
@weeman
t mobile is gettin the galaxy s later this month or early june
@weeman
rant:
I still don't understand why would Samsung make a mobile like that (I mean awesome!) and then decide to give one carrier only the exclusivity for it!
No matter how much money they're willing to pay you I would guess you're better off selling as many as you can, this way if you make good products people will return.
Take SE, they're selling the X10 and the vivaz through every carrier here in the UK and they're selling like hotcakes (according to my friends working at carphone warehouse), with a lower quality product (for what we expect from the galaxy S at least).
Idiots

Why, Samsung, why do you tempt me. I've already owned 2 of your phones. I told myself that I would not be buying a new Samsung phone this time around, because it gets boring sticking to one brand, but you bring out something beautiful. WHY! If I could get the Evo 4G I would but as I am a T-Mobile user I won't be able too.
Hopefully something happens in the next few days and T-Mobile gets a Evo or the UK gets an Evo... I normally order my phones from across the pond anyway.
@Evolyptic i acquired the original Galaxy in a game of chance and it was terrible. No software support from Samsung and rubbish memory specs.
I now have the Desire and would rather wait for HTC to release a Galaxy S beater.
@cjgrove Yeah, why buy another Samsung Galaxy phone when you're not going to get Android updates?
@mgrochowalski I'd hope it'd be rootable.
where is the s pro?
I might get the galaxy s ahead of the desire purely because of the super AMOLED screen. The desire is so difficult to read outside. Eagerly awaiting the review to see if samsung has actually produced a decent UI for once.
@weeandystheman
Further to wanting a review, hope its easy to root
@weeandystheman I also hope its easy to root, totally agree on the S-A screen. If the software is upto snuff then we could have a winner. I liked all the previews and I've actually played with the Galaxy A in Korea, what I'll say is I was slightly unimpressed by the Super AMOLED but I didn't get to view video or use it in sunlight which are two keys to seeing its improvement/beauty.
The software was super smooth and I think the sudden launch of the device without much notice was specifically to hear and iron out any complaints with the touchwizz layer on top of Android before launching their flagship device, but that's just my guess.
I'm not a iphone fanboy . . . but Samsung cmon . . that is just embarrasing what a direct rip-off that design is!
Seriously though, Samsung designers actually got paid for that!
@Robinator Yeah, it's totally a rip-off of PalmOS. 3x4 row of icons with text below them with 4 primary icons at the bottom!
meh
All that muscle and nothing to use it on... Pass!
I own the current Galaxy, and given my experience with it I will NEVER buy a Samsung mobile again. It's bugged to f**k and there is literally no support from Samsung. Two countries now have a flaky 1.6 firmware, the rest are stuck on a flaky, bugged 1.5, and apparently there will be no more updates considerably less than a year after launch. Two year contract? Bugger...
The only way I've got it usable is thanks to the modding community - and bear in mind you can't Cyanogen thanks to Sammy's proprietary drivers. When Drakaz gets bored/upgrades the users are shafted. Avoid, avoid, avoid.
I really wished they added flash for the camera at the last minute but it seems it isn't so =( That new sensor better be great in the dark!! And as stated by someone above, where is the Pro?
will this phone every be available as Unlocked? so it would work with any carrier?
Anyone else think Steve might sue for his iPhone patented "trademark design" ?
@colbyp Samsung fabricates the mobile processors for iPhone and iPad, as well as most of Apple's Flash memory chips, so its likely they've done a patent-swap that makes it ok for Sammy to do this, but still not ok for anyone else...
Either that or they just feel they have Apple by the short hairs... in which case they don't know Steve too well ...
I have a Samsung Impression (it is a dumb phone) and the bottom row is similar to this. I am skeptical of Samsung and their ability to make phones. They do not support their phones and their software is buggy. They do make good flip phones! I am not trolling, just my opinion. I doubt whether Bada will make a dent unless the phones are cheap. I need a phone with a keyboard though.
I wish that this powerful hardware didn't have a custom Samsung skin software (TouchWiz) on it. I hope we can turn that skin off easily, as we do with HTC's SenseUI which is really nice unlike Samsung's TouchWiz crap...
Play.com in the UK just sent me an email about the availability of the Samsung Galaxy S. According to them it will be for sale on 10 June and pre-orders are being taken now...
If the graphics processor in the Galaxy S really is as fast as Samsung claims, I can't see any reason to get the EVO 4G over Galaxy S, unless you have a real problem with the UI.
@Chenz
true...
and the screen is great
From what I have seen this is the android phone to get.
Everyreview of Desire or Legend etc that I've seen has the home screens horribly laggy when swiping as well as jerky scrolling.
The hands on demos of Samsung has really responsive swiping and scrolling.
@Proud Japanese I've played with the Galaxy A, which has a slower processor, and it was smooth and fast. One thing I'll say is I didn't launch any high memory or have a 10 hour session so perhaps it's suspect to slowdown eventually, but it's doing what is expected thus far.
Not sure if Apple will do anything about it, but those devices violate Apple's trademark IP 100%. They look almost identical to the iPhone 3G.
@Gazoobee
Yea the Galaxy (which is the only one pictured above) does, only it's a little more square, which makes it kinda awkward. large screen though.
The wave, on the other had, is pretty different from the iPhone and has a seamless metal body, check it out

i think after this phone get released, it will be the best phone in the market. look at the reviews on youtube, this phone is amazing in many ways.
those... four... ugly... ass... icons... and... my... bleeding... bleeding... eyes
Hmmmm...Im pretty sure I have seen that design somewhere before! But where?.....Hmmmm. Oh perhaps if we make it look like an iPhone we will sell more!
I told you that saying "If you don't like apple, don't buy it" is bad idea....
Now people start to buy more Android device ;)
This would haver been so amazing.
But no camera flash? That is just completely inexcusable nowadays.
So, like past Omnias and the Omnia HD, will Samsung drop support as soon as they sell enough/move on to the next product?
Sorry, a disgruntled i8910 owner here.
Anybody that wants to buy this, just be aware that if you have any problems or software issues with your device, Samsung has zero post sales support. Zero. And you're never getting a firmware upgrade.
Except it has a skin over Android. Stop it already, it's not Windows 6.5. I won't buy a skinned phone because I like my updates 3 months after announced instead of 12.
@futurerheza: Just looking at that interface... And reminiscing on what Samsung has done to other phones... I have a feeling that thing will NOT be smooth... Rather, it will be very laggy / gimmicky
When will this be released in the US!
I've waited through so many phones to finally settle for this one.
It better be in summer!
I may just have to rig up my own MicroSIM card and buy the vadafone version and go data only
