Acer holding global event at end of May, no Chrome OS devices planned to launch
Thinking that early June / Computex will see the launch of Acer's Chrome OS devices? That's what we heard yesterday, but after doing a little digging of our own, our advice is simply, don't hold your breath. A source within Acer has told us that the company has no plans to hold a press conference at the Taipei show, and that a global launch event will be held in New York on May 25. The "significant news" Acer has to share this spring will be revealed then, but it doesn't seem like it'll entail Chrome OS devices either.
So, what do we make of all of this? If we had to bet, we'd say that Chrome isn't quite ready for prime time yet, as others have been reporting. But Acer has been known to show early prototypes of devices behind glass at trade shows -- we saw the Android Aspire One under lock and key at Computex last year. Who knows what will happen in the next few weeks with Google I/O, this Acer event and Computex, but we just have a feeling we'll be waiting a bit longer for the company's Chrome OS systems to hit the market. Though, that doesn't mean it won't launch them in the second half of the year like originally promised.

I'm guessing more Acer Ferrari Editions~
@shoxite
Aspire 8943G baby
Still crapy build quality
@erwin Acers are extremely cheap, and their build quality is fine.
@erwin
and ugly
@David Bailey The regular sized Acers are decent quality, though I have the similar version from the picture that came with XP and it scratches too easily, any finger oil on the palmrests / touchpad makes it look like I jizzed all over the computer, there is a complete snap in the plastics on the right side (The blue part, not the entire chassis) and my microphone doesn't work at all. The hardware is decent, though the casing needs some work.
get us thin&light x86 tablet with good battery or plan to get bad earning... hiahia
@htd sounds like 1st chrome tablet concept. http://j.mp/chrome-netbook
But I want a duel boot Android/Google OS tablet!
reason ?
@VicMatson Yeah, why?
@Nokia N900 - cause DUEL boot is clearly awesome. Watch the OS's fighting every time you start the computer...
@NewL
Better yet have an intro that says "it's TIME to d-d-d- d-d-d- DUEL!"
Android has apps, GOS(just invented that) does not, unless you count Google apps!
@VicMatson
Shouldn't it be COS?
i5/i7 ULV laptops/netbooks/whatever? Here's hoping.
Sorry for posting this here but don't know where to ask (I figure emailing the editors will never get a response) so here goes...
Does anyone know how to create an INCLUSIVE tag filter?
ie engadget.com/tag/apple,google -- this will show only articles that have BOTH apple and google tags. I'm looking for either or.
ie engadget.com/include/apple,google
Of course that doesn't work.
Does anyone have any ideas?
@Johnny Rockets I'm not sure I get what you are asking. www.engadget.com/tag/google will show google news. www.engadget.com/tag/apple will show apple news. We don't have a way to show both of those in one feed, if that is what you are asking.
@Joanna Stern
Awww. Yes, that's exactly what I was hoping for.
Is there any chance it could be added? :)
Does anyone know a way to do it via other methods? Yahoo pipes possibly?
chromeOS is crap. you have to be joking to want it. chrome is the worst browser out, looks designed by fisher-price
@account5
You need to get laid.
Wow Acer, way to kill the hype before a big announcement
Pixel Qi netbook announcement, please!!!!
Hexxeh has already posted a builder's version of Chrome OS. It's been tested on EEE netbooks, and apparently runs very well.
Hoping this will include the 532G release. 10 inches and discrete graphics... FINALLY!
whatever happened to the acer/fujitsu frame zero concepts?

I am hoping they will announce the 3820tg with ATI's HD5650 in it. For a 13" lightweight laptop it doesn't get any better than this.
