MSI rolls out Wind U160DX netbook with 15-hour battery
It may just seem like yesterday that MSI was introducing its Wind U160 netbook at CES, but the company's now already back with an updated model in time for Computex: the Wind U160DX. While it's outward appearance remains mostly the same, the netbook's internals have been upgraded across the board, including a new Atom N455 processor, some DDR3 memory, MSI's own "Turbo Drive Engine" and, last but not least, a 15-hour battery (aided in part by MSI's ECO power management system). Still no word on pricing or availability for this one, but we should be hearing more about it soon enough at Computex, and you can get a closer look at it right now courtesy of Engadget Spanish at the link below.

Does anyone have experience with click buttons like that? It would seem to me that they would be veeery uncomfortable having them at the extreme bottom edge like that.
@BigJayDogg3 Definitely looks like it'd be hard to get used to.
@BigJayDogg3
That looks very bad but I like the battery-life and specs
@BigJayDogg3
If you look closely, it looks like the touchpad from the eeePC seashell series, only that this is positioned in the edge. From my experience, it's hard to press the buttons on the eee since the plastic kinda blocks your finger when you try to press down the button. But I guess that wouldn't be a problem anymore here since there's no plastic chassis on the buttom of the buttons.
@BigJayDogg3
its actually not so bad - the button is pretty 'clicky' so you can rest your thumb on it without depressing the buttons.
I hope it comes in black, also where's the trackpad?
@Broderbund Its right there... mesh with the rest of the laptop. If you look closer you can see little divots that help you differentiate from the rest of the laptop.
Frankly that's the deal breaker right there. Why can't we have NORMAL trackpads? You know, ones that are smooth and distinct from the rest of the material? I'd go back to the ole nub-in-center-of-keyboard deal instead of using their sh*tty trackpads.
@ZaxCG2
Trackpoints are the best. You don't need to lift your hand to scroll across the screen. Instead, it is just one smooth motion with an index finger.
can someone tell me who will buy ipad with something like this around?
@arash Clueless fanbois that follow the herd.
@arash Is this thing instant-on?
@pika2000
Instant on ?
It's Instant win !
@pika2000 you're right its not instant FART(unless you record on for your own,replacing with windows logon sound)
@arash
your mother?
@arash when you completely power down the iPad is it instant on? (honest question here, never used one)
@arash Anyone who cares about a snappy UI. Netbooks are disasters in terms of usability. An ipad will do everything it does better than this or any other netbook:
1. Web browsing
2. Email client
3. Ebook reader
4. Media player
5. Games
6. Apps like pandora, netflix etc
also while netbooks technically support flash they are useless for flash videos like hulu.
@John Doe The clueless buy netbooks.
@jaffreywali
all I have to say is....
wooooooowwwww.........
If this isn't an attempt at trolling then this just makes me a sad panda.
@jaffreywali
1. Web browsing
no flash => no the full internet experience.
2. Email client
So what, my old cellphone can do that, in fact almost any modern cellphone can do that.
3. Ebook reader
Again, every gadget can do that.
4. Media player
OMFG, again every cellphone can do that.
5. Games
Not all games and without real buttons is pretty useless.
6. Apps like pandora, netflix etc
And what's missing :
flash.
office (real, not a cripped read-only application).
photoshop and all the adobe suite.
and many other applications.
Is there anything other laptops out there that lasts longer than 15 hours? I haven't seen any. This one look like it'll be good if the price is right.
@RockSolid
I think acer is touting some ridiculous battery life in some of its ULV and netbooks now too
as they say guys looks are not always everything(but they do help dont they ;) ) have to say tho 15hours battery now that i like!
now make it convertible (capacitive) thx
What??
No Ion graph??
No deal!
@Plexus do you eat BRANDS for breakfast? cause i think audi qattro is a nicer brand, so no Quattro? no deal!
big butts look much better on a girl.
why cant they make it super slim laptops like the lg x300 or the dell adamo?
@dark star
you saying your boyfriend's butt is big?
Wind? why don't they just call it Fart.... at least then it'll have the comedy factor
does it run windows? 15 hrs sounds too good
15hr flash enable netbook? Steve must be scratching his head now. Even half the life with flash it still pwned.
@cdf74dc9
The fact is that netbooks aren't better at anything...oh wait...
@cdf74dc9
You do know that they probably aren't claiming 15 hours of flash fueled ecstasy. Just 15 hours of near idle usage. Cant even begin to imagine battery life whilst watching flash video.
FLASH is NOT the end all and be all of all things in the computing realm.
@pple
Steve Jobs is a genius. He is try to convince that *less is more* and some people is believing this crap.
@magallanes
Not too sure what you are rambling on about old chap. However, if you're talking about Flash, then less is most definitely more. For me anyway (running click2flash).
needs ion2.
Good to know, actually I think the most important part of netbook is its size and battery instead of its performance.
Msi wind u100 is the only computer i've owned in recent memory that does everything adequately. The keyboard is ok, the webcam is ok the sd card slot is ok the vga out is excellant the audio out is great the drivers work well the screen adjustment works well the cpu works well and runs vuze very well. You get the picture.
The hardware all works well unlike any computer i've ever used, especially after a format. It's a very good company in my opinion and I will buy ALL my netbooks from them especially when I can run XP on them.
