Hulu headed to a Xbox 360 dashboard near you?
From its humble origins as a chunky black box of PC parts, the Xbox has grown into a strapping young adult -- attracting a social circle including Netflix, Facebook and Twitter. Now, rumor has it that the Xbox 360's preening for a date with Hulu, too. Though plans aren't set in stone, Gear Live tells us Hulu has been spotted in internal Xbox 360 dashboard builds, and that Microsoft will introduce the streaming video service as part of their Xbox LIVE experience at E3 2010. The publication is mighty certain here, but at this point we can't corroborate for ourselves. If this does end up happening, the question is how much it might cost, as we hear there's going to be some sort of fee -- perhaps Hulu will be part of that "Xbox LIVE Platinum Tier" rumor that gets dragged out most every year.

@John Lennon *console*
unless thats how its spelled somewhere else...
@admlshake Have it, and it's not nearly as good as the 360 app.
On the engadget ipod touch app it says there is 19 comments on this post, but currently i only see 3 also it takes some time for me to see my comments and/or the people that reploed to my comments anyone know why?
That's cool. I think Netflix, Hulu and Zune would all compliment each other well. Between older releases and series, new tv series and the newest movies that's nearly complete.
However, I would need some news and sports to totally dump cable. (Beat L.A.)
With that said, I hope Hulu is less than $5/mo for gold members.
God I hate the Xbox dashboard, if it looked a bit more like zune with metro ui it would be fantastic.
@Sicarius123 You never know that could be in the works to coincide with the release of Windows Phone 7 and project natal. I would think natal gestures would work well with the UI
There is no way that this picture is legit. It's not nearly out of focus enough, and you can clearly make out everything on the screen. Go "un enhance" it and then it might be more believable
@admlshake
Note the date on the Speed Racer tile... Its definitely not real.
@admlshake
Wow, you 2 are a bunch of f'n geniuses.
Captain Obvious to save the day.
@Hate Everything
I appreciate the compliment. Now, isn't there a bridge you should be collecting toll for somewhere troll?
personally, I'll be sticking with my PlayOn server.
Wait until we actually see it.
I hope this happens. I dont want to have to buy PlayOn!
@itrogers Playon actually works pretty good. I've tried it on the Xbox and the PS3. I've not tried it on the Wii and I don't think that I've tried making it work on the iPad (which would be great).
@itrogers Yeah I bought it and every time they update Playon gets worst and worst, I dont even use anymore
There are a lot of things wrong with this picture. No Zune or Netflix on the Dashboard for example. Not to mention the fact that it's advertising movies that are a year old.
Doh just realized it's just an Engadget photoshop of the Hulu logo over the Netflix logo on the old Xbox Dashboard.
2008 - Netflix
2009 - Zune
2010 - Hulu
Makes sense.
@cool8man
no offense..but... FUCKING DUH!
Where do you people come from?
If they actually do this, and it does not have a monthly fee, and it actually STAYS available, then I may actually be interested in getting a 360...
@tavisjohn Monthly fees or gold membership at least wouldn't surprise me. That's supposedly why the BBC iPlayer for the UK isn't on there since they can't charge for it. It's already on Wii and PS3.
That picture is photoshopped. They took the Hulu logo and laid it over the red Netflix.
Would be awesome if it was on the 360 though.
Cydia.hackulo.us
OUCH
That's gotta be a huge blow to Google TV.
What Steve Jobs got wrong about Box's is that it's not that no one wants to buy a box...it's that we already have a box...bring the content to the box I already have. In my case I have an Xbox 360 which has trounced all other offerings in so many ways. I am more than happy to get Hulu on the Xbox 360 soon and if it's included in the Gold membership...that would be amazing!
@Bobbo I think Google could learn something from that also. I have enough boxes in my living room. Lets start working out deals with the companies that made those boxes to get more content on them.
Why not on Boxee?
BTW If MS got it's act together in this space, Google TV would get laughed out of town.
Hopefully this is Hulu's choice for a REAL 'lean-back' experience outlet...since they obviously don't like the Netflix model--which is being on every box they can be. However, if there's no widespread HD, i'll continue to meander in the dark when it comes to the Hulu fad.
Plus, the Hulu execs know there's way more potential eyeballs for their ads on Live than on Boxee.
This article needs moar Steve Jobs and his views on the matter.
Yeah te xbox has certainly gone a long way
needs to have "HD Video"( no less than 720p)
I am deaf person watching HULU had closed captioning everyday i'm enjoy with hulu my notebook but, however hey you MS dumb If MS xbox live add this hulu without closed captioning. SHAME ON YOU MS XBOX LIVE. THAT'S ALL! I'll kick your ass when MS disable HULU's closed captioning and I will watching you MS XBL either with SONY PS3. Netflix sucks cause no closed captioning in instant netflix... I ain't happy with both MS XBL and SONY PS3. I wonder where is petition website?
@DRTECH I'm suprised there is no closed captioning it's not like it's a difficult addition and a requirement for a large number of people.
We still need BBC iPlayer for people in the UK it's on the Wii and PS3 already but Microsoft only want to give it to Gold subscribers or similar, something the BBC (being publicly funded) cannot do. Silly really as they should just use it as a selling point. Hope the same isn't true of Hulu for you guys.
Now, does that mean us brits get BBC iplayer?
This is pretty cool, but I just don't understand the popularity of Hulu. I think it's a terrible looking site and I can never find anything on it beyond promo clips and bad web videos.
Sorry to all the people in countries that don't receive hulu. As far as this goes its good news for xbox owners and if this is the case I'm sure you guys would get something to compensate for it.
Now as far as paying more for the service that's just nasty. If there is an xbox live platinum membership on the way it will need more then this to entice people to pay more. It does make sense with all the talk of sony announcing a premium psn offering that microsoft try to one up them.
But the XBox still can't play Flash videos!
I'd rather they worked on making the Netflix client work half decently on lower bandwidth connections. On my low-end DSL connection, Netflix on the 360 is completely unwatchable with jarring hiccups and drops to super low quality mode for long periods of time. Netflix looks quite good on our Wii and plays flawlessly with no hiccups ever, albeit not HD, and much better then the low quality mode we end up in on the 360.
Come on, there aren't enough comments pointing out that the pic in the blog is fake. Sheesh, welcome to engadget you noobs.
My 360 will likely be turned on every moment I'm home. With Netflix and hopefully Hulu on my 360, I can never say I'm bored or have nothing to do/watch.
I'm planning on moving out at the end of the year, early next, and I'm seriously considering not getting cable, and adding Hulu to my 360 would go a LONG way in helping that decision. Just pay for a really fast Internet connection, and I'll be set.
So, any news on the ESPN 3 to Live rumors from a couple of months ago? Cable is getting closer and closer to just being a bad memory!
@perrin75 ESPN3 is what I'm waiting for. Hopefully will happen b4 college football season.
Strange thing, I have Hulu desktop on my laptop and on my wife's PC, and I don't use it. But now Hulu has been rumored to appear on the 360, I'm suddenly interested in it..
this is great I hope its true and not based on the photo-shopped image above that still depicts I am Legend like a new movie, and speed racer is this image from 08? oh i know they swapped the lettering for netflix that explains hulu swapping green for red!
Checkmate!!!! If Microsoft can get this exclusive they will be the winner of the console wars
You know with a one time purchase of PlayOn, you can steam Hulu, Netflix and whole host of other services (justin.tv, crackle, etc) to your PS3, XBox, etc.
I'm not assoc. with Mediamall. I've just had these services for years and hate to see people pine away for what they can all ready have.
