Alienware M11x gets overseas Core i3 / i5 / i7 and NVIDIA Optimus bumps (update: US too)
We've been hearing about an impending CPU update to Alienware's M11x for some time now, and now Dell Malaysia has quietly updated its website with options to order the revised not-quite-netbook. So what's new? Well, there's NVIDIA Optimus for starters, and the Intel Core 2 Duo processor has been thanked for its time and shown the door in lieu of Core i3, i5, and i7 CPUs on a QS57 chipset. Prices start at RM 3,699, or about $1,110 in US bills. Speaking of which, while Dell's US site has yet to update, we've seen what's purported to be some internal documentation that pinpoints the official stateside launch for the revised M11x as tomorrow (technically, it's already Tuesday in Malaysia). No confirmation yet, but hey, it'd make for a pretty nice pre-E3 gift.

Update: UK Alienware lovers can now also get their Core i5/i7 M11x fix, as the new hardware options have gone live on the laptop's local microsite. Yes, Optimus is there too. [Thanks, Mike]
Update 2: And now it's live in the US with prices starting at $949 with a Core i5 520UM. Less if you're thinking Core 2 Duo, which you're not. [Thanks, MastrCake]

Next challenge: making an Alienware not look gaudy.
@Colours
They already did that, and they made a higher quality chassis too, for less money.
They're called Sager laptops.
@Colours
I really like almost all of this laptop . . . my issue is mainly the alien head on the back of the case and the slightly obnoxious brand name 'alienware'. I don't want to pretend my computer is from the future or made with alien technology, thats silly.
@Colours Amen. But honestly, I'm still buying one.... its kinda like Subject Zero/Jack from Mass Effect 2, she's way too loud w/ obnoxious tattoos and what not, but you still wanna hit it.
@Ducman69
i'd hit mass effect 2...
with a bat.
@dez Sincere endorsement: You have not experienced Shakespeare until you heard it from the voice of an elcor.
@bolezhinkov
LOL i hear ya, it's marketing though, we can't change it
O RLY? Sager has a sub 13" notebook that stuffs a 1GB video card into it's chassis?
want
looks like a membrane keyboard from my old atari (but nicely backlit)
Dear Dell,
I'll gladly order on of these if you would so kindly loose a Streak @ a Willy wonky candy store * gold ticket not necessary but would be appreciated*
HAHAHA! Now it's time to buy one!
@wookieecrisp
my thoughts exactly.
i think they look nice enough , i can kinda see the appeal of this i mean i know my desktop now is so big, i just take my laptop a monitor and keyboard to lans so i do like gaming laptops, whats the weight different between this an say a 15inch alienware.
@IMarius Its 4.39lbs, heavy for a 11" device (prolly bigger heatsinks and what not)... but thats the main thing, its an 11" device.
Very small footprint to fit in a small bag, and really if under 5lbs is too heavy for a guy to carry, he should skip buying one of these and get a gym membership instead.
Sexy =]
@angelusp English isn't your first language, is it?
I am confused, what is this doing in the iphone news website??
I want news on the next pos android phone coming out. Give it 5 min.
@pavelbure
I see why you were down-ranked, but that was kinda funny.
@Broderbund
Welcome to the Internet. Now available in non English speaking countries. :)
It's already tomorrow in Korea too, but no update here :'(.
Do the new processors over clock in addition to intel's turbo boost?
@geegee "Take mobile gaming to the next level with the optional overclockable Intel® CoreTM i series of mobile processors. Intel Turbo Boost Technology enables the optional Intel® CoreTM i7 640UM to reach 2.66GHz maximum frequency and helps you power through games, multimedia applications and your daily routine all at the same time."
It says the i7-640UM is optional to overclock and together with Turbo Boost would reach 2.66GHz, while the stock Turbo Boost is just 2.26GHZ.
@angelusp
new phone this summer - check
new laptop this summer (or fall.. hehe) - check
new motion controls... wait nvm
it's a great year to upgrade all your gadgets :)
I think this is far more important and revolutionary than the iphone 4...
@Anguigen True, but thats not saying much. xD
The M11x with core i3/i5 is here. So where is the damn Asus UL30jt with core i3/i5? huh, huh Asus?! Ghost-ware?
@allston232 Idk, I'm wondering where the eee 1218 is. Asus is filling the air with ghostware. At least Alienware is putting stuff out on the market (and ahead of schedule too! remember they said they were going to announce it at E3).
@Broderbund I hate these kind of people more than Apple fanboys.
Now just make the same thing, but not gaudy. It will fly off the shelves. Or at least it should fly off of the shelves.
It already looks like it will fly off the shelves. At night after the shopkeeper locked up and noones in the store.
@wookieecrisp
No one even said anything about an Apple. Stop being a moron.
I wonder if we could get the A4 as an option, it would be SO MUCH better. J/k, Im glad I held off on getting this when it first came out, I would hate to have to buy another one otherwise.
great laptop but ill stay with my mac book pro but if i had to get something other then a mac this would be one of the first things i look at
WOOT!!! My lappy just "Failed", and my warranty just ended, so naturally it's time for a new one.
I've been looking into the m11x since launch, but honestly, the C2D's clock speed is slower than my 2.5 year old Dell's processor (and I got the slowest C2D available at the time). I wanted to get a new comptuer when my laptop was 2 years old, but it still worked, and it still did everything I wanted it to do. Now it doesn't.
If the m11x's price stays nice and low, you can count me in!
Also, I saw a comment earlier on this page which basically said "NEED MOAR iPHONE COVERAGE", but I think it was deleted. Maybe Engadget implemented a system where "If X gets Y low ranks in Z amount of time, X's post will be deleted". That would just be awesome.
@Broderbund
ACM1PT
Yay, Some non apple news Im so happy. Ross, you always were my favorite Engadget poster!
Matte screen option?
@sonicyoof Doubtful, since the screen's bezel isn't raised.
@Smurf
Darn. Guess I'm not getting this anytime soon.
i7 in 11 inches? sweeet
Lol. First time I saw my country being mentioned in Engadget
@SeNg Country from where I'm from*
@SeNg It must be a day of great pride, in your country. :)
@Smurf rofl! don't be a douche.
@Smurf My country probably wouldn't notice but I feel proud enough : )
@CJisohsocool
Instead of being a douche, maybe you should try and derive the point of the post.
John McClain can use this to eat Germans
Looks awesome.
I was blown away with the original Core2Duo model, and this CPU revision would make a VERY tempting option.
I wonder what effect the CPU change has on battery life?
