Those devices with "crap battery life" sure won't be Android devices -- especially because Froyo is supposed to cut the performance hit of the operating system drastically.
@TomSawyer I must be missing something. How could these phones all automatically be taking a battery life hit if they get the OPTION to download the OPTIONAL Adobe Flash add-on and visit websites that specifically make use of Flash? Please enlighten me as to how this works.
@Dafrety I'd bet most people won't know or remember to turn it off, only the elites on Engadget will do that. Then again, if the craptacular sales of Evo are a sign, maybe this won't end up being a huge issue after all...
@Spongecake It doesn't hurt battery, I'm running it. Hulu was choppy, but sites like megavideo and justintv work perfect. You must first install flash player then u set whether it is always on or on demand or off. Even if you leave it always on it only activates flash in the viewing area. When on demand there is an arrow, when clicked flash is enabled. My battery is not efected, but I was able to watch last night's finals game and the world cup games. Its ok though, with steve jobs doing the convincing in ten or so years there won't be any websites, but just "apps for that".
You should look at the other video they made where it doens't lag like that because Flash on Froyo has an option of ON-DEMAND.. so everything runs smoothly..
When you look for information to discredit something at least make sure you look at "ALL" of the information that's out there.
@Bozster Yes, the on-demand option is very good but is it normal that it has to be done this way as a workarround for performance? And it doesn't make it less lag when you need it and thus enable it.
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
wow, a quarter billion phones with crap battery life. Can't wait.

@TomSawyer
Oh right. That must be why Apple don't allow GPS or WiFi then.
Woops!

@TomSawyer
lol @ getting downranked for giving Android positive credit...
@Dafrety Thick people don't understand it can only affect the battery if it's running.

It's running FROYO... and lags like hell.

@Spongecake
You have to download and install it in the first place. It is not there to begin with.

@Dafrety I suppose it's possible the runtime may be a process using resources as it waits for the player to call the runtime engine.
I don't know how it works though. I believe the last video I saw they had a means of turning even that off.
