Perhaps they have figured out that the only way to avoid a class-action lawsuit is to do the logical thing and give people free bumpers.
Seriously. They can make all this bad press go away if they stop denying that there's something wrong, apologize, and give people a free fix.

Brace for AAPL impact! As a shareholder, I'm sure this will be an unpleasant day, regardless of what Apple says. Ah well, the shares will drop, they'll level out, they'll climb back to where they started, and go even higher as Apple continues to sell bajillions of iPhones, iPads, and Macs.
Just fix it, Apple, so we can all move on.

The sad thing is, I wouldn't be surprised one bit if they end up saying there isn't an issue with the current iPhone 4, but announce a new one without the antenna problem...
If they say anything other than announcing a recall, they blew it.

The local media are reporting Consumer Reports testing, as well as Apple's stock tanking due to the antenna issue.

@Dig Deep: Not many companies are as high profile as Apple, have such a rabid and loud fan base, sell millions of devices in such a short time span, and have a major issue on Day 1.
Microsoft had to deal with 15+ Million (im just guessing, it could be more at the time the RROD issue hit its peak) owners of 360's a few years after its release. If the RROD issue was a Day 1 issue, they would have responded just as fast since they too are high profile and are in a very competitive market.

I dont think its possible for apple to blow it.. Regardless people will still buy the iphone.. I know people that acts like the issue doesnt exist.. And this is not the only problem... Camera crashes, proximity issues etc.. People will still buy it cuz its apple... Now if the samsung galaxy s or the evo would have had a problem like that people would have went crazy..
