Apple to hold iPhone 4 press conference this Friday

If you haven't caught up on the story (and if that's the case, where have you been?), here's a little background on the issue in reverse chronological order:
Yes, the iPhone 4 is broken / No, the iPhone 4 is not broken
Consumer Reports confirms iPhone 4 antenna problems -- and so do we
Apple: iPhone 4 reception problem is a software issue, fix coming in 'a few weeks'
iPhone 4's antenna problem looks worse than it is, but it's still bad
Apple hiring iPhone antenna engineers for some reason
Apple telling reps to smooth over iPhone 4 reception complaints, not to offer free bumpers?
iPhone 4 antenna woes contextualized by dude in the know
The Jimmy Fallon Test: is the iPhone 4 dropping fewer calls?
Hey Apple, you're holding it wrong
Apple responds to iPhone 4 reception issues: you're holding the phone the wrong way

@replicant man
no, only tourists go to times square. hipsters go to Brooklyn.
@Psyclotr0n hahahaha, too true...or anywhere BUT Times Square...people pass through Times Square...tourists and Jersey people actually chill there

Apple is so dramatic...
What i do not get is how Apple missed this flaw during testing processes. I mean are talking about something so obvious, we are not talking about a hidden, hard to find flaw. If someone from Apple made a phone call that person should have noticed a flaw.
Is At&T reception that bad that when engineers noticed drop calls they just thought that it is business as usual?
@Sea Urchin
There's probably an AT&T tower on the Cupertino campus.
Plus... we know the iPhone 4 prototype that snuck out *was* in a case.
@Sea Urchin Most likely they did most of their real-world testing with the faux-3GS case on it, like the one that covered the phone Gizmodo eventually bought from the guy who found it in a bar. Since we know that a case stops the problem from occurring, it was probably easy to overlook. That being said, I find it hard to believe that no one that designed the phone had any problem with putting the antennae on the outside in the first place.
@Sea Urchin They didn't miss it. That is why the bumper work specifically for that issue. It only protects the sides really. So its either a really big coincidence, or they knew about this issue and hoped no one would notice..
@Sea Urchin you didnt know? Steve Job thinks no one should use their left hand and therefore only hires right handed engineers.....so they didnt test it on the left
Hopefully they "hold" the conference the right way
@jhow
LOL
All man, now the tech blogs are really going to speculate.
Time to sell the stock?
Apple's Oprah moment: Everyone in attendance gets a free Droid X
hopefully they'll finally tell us when it will come to Canada :D
This is going to be good.
I wonder if Jobs will personally apologize.. or if they'll get someone else to run the show
At first I thought it said "How to hold iPhone 4 press conference" like they were having a press conference just on how to hold the iphone properly as to not lose signal
I CAN'T wait for what Steve has to say. I'm sure his humor is gonna be on point on this one. He makes things that aren't funny, funny sometimes on stage lol
@kaynnn
He's probably gonna blame it on Gizmodo.... the leak rattled them so much that they couldn't complete the final testing phase!
I still love my iPhone 4 but hope for a fix.
Apple: "You see we figured out that all phones loose signal strength when held a certain way. But Apple has once again figured out a way to do it better than anyone else. I will now have Steve Jobs demonstrate the correct way to hold your next generation iPhone."
We apologise for the fault in the subtitles (er, antennae). Those responsible have been sacked.
@lorennerol
And now for something completely different!
Maybe there will be a "We fixed the issue with the white iPhone" along with a "Free trade-in" and then "Free bumpers for those who want to keep their iPhone" and "fixed black iPhone next month" and "next time we wont be so secretive so we can test better, lol"
Apple is speeding up competition, prepare...iPhone 5!
@bakkermaarten007
No, it will be iphone 4s.
Sh&t is about to hit the floor.
inb4 black turtle neck and blue jeans.
They're announcing that they're taking their talents down to South Beach.
@shuref00t
Kobe>Lebron
About damn time. This could have been handled so easily, but of course jobs had to go sending asshole emails. And then there's the fact that the apple store guidelines were leaked out - JUST BE WILLING TO GIVE FREE BUMPERS UNTIL YOU GET THE PROBLEM FIXED.
"You're holding it wrong" is such a instant soundbyte....Damn steve, you screwed up.
@everyone does
Didn't Jobs actually say something to the tune of "try not holding it that way", which could arguably be said in a more polite manner than "you're holding it wrong"? While the message being conveyed is the same, the tone of delivery does make a difference.
In this regard, I think that paraphrasing can excite a lot of people into being needlessly emotional or judgmental about someone's character.
In the end it's for the benefit of those who will never buy an Apple product irrespective of what Apple does. It's simple as that.
There are over 2m sold and the waiting list is still as long today as it was on day 1. The return rate from actual users is miniscule.
Guess which phones are #1 and 2 on Consumer Reports? So if you don't buy the iPhone 4 because of what CR says then their next choice is the 3GS. The irony!
no more coverups please
@wickerman045
"i am not a crook!!!"
-Steve Nixon
Here's the whole conference:
Steve: There's no issues, a fix is coming, stay tuned. No questions.
@xyrcncp But there's just one more thing...
Brand tarnish!!! Apple will never admit! Its against their brand name!
A press conference? When's the last time Apple had one of those? Seems to be the only press events they do anymore are product announcements or conference keynotes.
They are going to deny that there is an antenna problem, and are just going to reaffirm that Android is for people that want porn on their phones...
No doubt their PR has been working overtime on this. This is going to be freaking BS on an epic Apple scale. I can not wait !!
@mutex And what will you do if they give a reasonable explanation and an honest answer and fix and NO BS? I can not WAIT!!
@mutex
So no hope at all for you they actually admit their fault in this? They already have at least one class action suit against them and AT&T. Slapping the consumer or denying the issue at this point would be incredibly BAD for them.
@VAVA Mk 2
Realistically what I think will happen is that they will say it's not a big deal, but Lord Jobs has graciously decided to award all his minions $1 (which they sell for $29) bumper to help with the non-issue.
They got caught with their pants down LYING about this already when they said it was a software fix, so this is what the PR bs will be about.
ISheep will praise Lord Jobs, face Cupertino and continue their daily prayers.
@mutex pathetic fantasy bro
See you spinning more fluff on Friday? It's a date.
"we are happy to report that our next quarter profits have been estimated higher, due to an increase in demand for our magic and revolutionary iPhone 4 bumpers!"
