Boxee's first production Box gets shown off to the world (video)
Looks like the first production Boxee Box must have slipped through customs alongside those Popboxes that went out yesterday, shown off in this video by Chief Product Officer Zach Klein. Other than a new fingerprint-resistant outer casing there's not a lot new to learn after our time with prototype hardware during CES, but check the video (embedded after the break) to see what the team is so excited about before it ships in November, and find out more about that box of Wheat Thins on the table. Mmm, Wheat Thins.

It's sinking!
@fpad77
Man I really want one of those remotes so I can use it for XBMC lol.
I'm glad there's more competition in this market, push for innovation!
@fpad77
mmmm....multigrain
@fpad77
Goes great with any dip!
@fpad77 It must be denser than depleted uranium! I mean just look! That counter was no match!
And gotta get your fiber lol :P
@fpad77
Damn hippies and their wheat thins. Boxee box looking good but I'd rather have that remote for my HTPC.
That guy was all over the place. A real geek. Not sure if I'd want him representing my product, but at least he loves his job.
@Dinochicken
They said back in January that they will sell the remote separately. Not sure if that holds true still.
@fpad77 The iPhone camera is good quality.
Excellent. It will go perfectly with all my other oddly shaped fluorescent yellow appliances!
@fpad77 boxee vs google tv, that's the question.
@fpad77
Not really diggin the yellow color.
OMGOMGOMGGGGG
YEEEESSSSSS
FINALLY!!
Ive been waiting for this to come for so long!
@abedinthehouse That's what Padme said
@Lord Vader
Big V knows what the ladies like.
@abedinthehouse Until they betray me and side with my former master and question my power
@Lord Vader
but the ladies love a mature man.
@DefPoet
"Big V knows what the ladies like" was a reference to Johnson from Halo 2 in which he says, "I know what the ladies like."
Obviously (many) ladies like mature men, but I was only combining the awesomeness of Halo and Star Wars; nothing more.
@abedinthehouse The ladies like Vader's heavy saber.
almost forgot t his one, is bigger than i though.
@techlord That's what she said!
(go ahead, downrank me! lol)
@geniusdog254
There's only room for one 'that's what she said' joke on this article!
@abedinthehouse
padme is not she!
@DefPoet
Then what is she, a he?
NIce but a bit too big!
@hero785
I actually take that back considering how hideous some of the boxes look. Nice design. I dig!
@hero785 Thats what she said
Kickass remote
I LOVE Boxee. I have it on a new Mac Mini with HDMI to my TV. I like the idea of a Boxee box, but A) why is it $200? I can get a netbook that runs Boxee (and a bunch of other stuff) for $200. and B) Why is it shaped like a sinking cube? Where am I supposed to stack this in my media closet?
@jimmylittle
Your netbook won't be able to do high res video unless it has a broadcomm or equiv. hardware encoder on board. I think the boxee box is reasonably priced...supposedly it's tegra2 based (im anxious to see performance information!), and should be able to plow through any HD video you can throw at it, and it also has flash 10.1 support (with hardware acceleration i presume). I also like the design -- but you're right, you can't stack it -- but I think it's kind of meant to be it's own stack and stand out from the other traditionally designed STBs.
I wish they would have put a gyro or accelerometer in the remote :| then it would have been perfect.
@jimmylittle : The Boxee box, as always, is too small to be able to stack anything on it if it wasn't tilted. The tilt doesn't cost any stacking ability.
@jimmylittle
"Where am I supposed to stack this in my media closet?" ... on top
@magic6435 That's what sh... ahhh forget it. :/
LATFH
@nikoitaliano Laughing At The F**** Headband?
@az1324 Look At This F****** Hipster: http://www.latfh.com/
Whoa there headband! Who are you supposed to be - hipster Rambo? Going for a run, Steve Prefontaine?
Nah, you're all right.. cool product.
Boxee rocks. I just don't see this fitting well on anyone's media shelf/closet.
The remote is awesome though.
... As a million users on 4chan nearly have a heart attack from shock, then realise the spelling, then experience epic disappointment, or joy, depending on on their side of that great divide.
@Funkyriffic
You spelled realize wrong
@Drybones5 That's how it is spelled in English English. As opposed to US English.
The remote looks sweet.
@Ben64 like how the logo lights up when it powers up.
I like how the design has absolutely no respect for anything else in my entertainment center.
@iamdeadfish
Totally true dude. The new xbox has more of a square look but its still not bad looking on a shelf... This thing is just odd.
@iamdeadfish I think they're looking for novelty, I really don't want that. I don't buy a video device to look at at the device, but to watch on a display.
@JDM :: True. Yeah but; 1) This is their first device. 2) You are free to put Boxee on your own custom built HTPC etc. 3) Boxee isn't actually that fantastic, especially in terms of usability. Ironically it's one of the very best media centres out there.
Om nom nom WHEAT THINS
Have been waiting for this a long time now but with google tv coming Im waitin a bit longer.
Ooooooh I really hope we can get something other than boxee running on this hardware. I just wanna slap the latest build of XBMC on that thing and rub it the right way!
