Boxee's first production Box gets shown off to the world (video)
Looks like the first production Boxee Box must have slipped through customs alongside those Popboxes that went out yesterday, shown off in this video by Chief Product Officer Zach Klein. Other than a new fingerprint-resistant outer casing there's not a lot new to learn after our time with prototype hardware during CES, but check the video (embedded after the break) to see what the team is so excited about before it ships in November, and find out more about that box of Wheat Thins on the table. Mmm, Wheat Thins.

"It's so cool to do this, I love my job".. That was awesome.. I am buying one of these as soon as they are available.. GO BOXEE!!
Holy. Fucking. Hipster.
get Hulu unblocked and it's worth looking at
@dhill0413 what do you mean? I watch Hulu on Boxee
Neckbeard? Moustache? Headband? Distressed jeans? T-shirt (probably ironic in some way I don't understand)? Really? Dude looks like a sickly weakling. My first thought was "how is someone just out of high school running a company like this?"
@chandler
Um, have you ever seen a picture of Peter Rojas (the guy who started Engadget)? How about Sergey and Larry, they guys who founded Google? Christ, what about Jobs and Woz in the late 70s? Bill Gates? They were all scruffy geeks in their early 20s when they started making shit happen. This industry runs on scrawny weirdos with bad t-shirts and neckbeards, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Me want both of those boxes.
It's about fucking time!
NO MORE PC/MAC MINI's CONNECTED TO TV'S. So much cheaper and cooler!
This shall be my next purchase, its almost too good to be true
@Hydra I hear ya. There will have to be some pretty negative reviews to keep me away from this.
Been waiting on this for so long! As soon as I can get my hands on this thing Comcast can go suck a left nut! Barely watch cable now anyway
Where is the front USB? Did they scrap that plan?
ugh! Another box. This looks like a very worthy product though. Props to them. Peace
I need a 5 star chick. This is tops 2. Nothing to see.
The BOXEE website mentions WiFi 801.11n but the DLink web site doesn't say anything about WiFi.
What is the real scoop?
@markntravis it has wifi
@iName Boxee says it does but DLink the producer of said box doesn't mention WiFi in the specs.
Wheat Thins...my evil nemesis. *shakes fist at Celiac*
What a dufus! could have been a little more professional with the video and kept that obviously important remote close by as well! I may or may not be interested in this because i just turned a foxconn nettop into a boxee box and it works great!
I don't pick up my xbox after I plug it in and feel it over just because it looks interesting... maybe I'm just doing it wrong, but if that's doing it right I'm not really sure about anything anymore.
holy hipster batman!
but on a more serious note i cant wait to get one i hope its not TOO much $$
Boxee seems like a cool concept. I wanted it to work but it just doesn't work. Maybe it works better on top hardware but I wanted it to do the simple functions it is supposed to do on simple hardware. I wonder if this box is the answer to that. If they can promise every online video you click on will work on the box, then this may be worth getting excited about.
Great. . .this year's box no one will buy, as opposed to last year's box no one will buy.
The one and the most fundamental flaw with Boxee is that you can't delete stuff. I don't like storing stuff, I don't like keeping stuff once I finished watching it, I want to delete it, but I can't, I get to share it instead. That is just plain old stupid! That headband is impairing your thought process - dear old beach ball stacker get rid. Seriously we need the ability to delete, well that and for ShoutCast to actually work properly too, and maybe the ability to edit the home screen. Honestly, I don't give a rats ass what the world is watching, I am not a sheep that follows the herd, I can find my own entertainment. Other than that it is quite perfect... Thank you very much.
No honestly get rid of that head band and shave, you look like you are ready to have sex with a dead goat. I am not knocking it, I am just saying it.
that guy from the look like a fuking hippie
Awesome. Can't wait!
Tits! I need to see tits! This Maynard G. Krebs isn't helping the marketing department at all. That plus it's too late. I was excited about it at CES but that was 6 whole months ago and I couldn't wait so I bought a Sony BDP-BX57 at Costco for $200 bucks including the HDMI cable. It works great with Netflix, You Tube, Slacker, Pandora; it plays Blu-Ray discs and it fit's in with my other components instead of looking like a shop project that somehow went wrong.
The design turned out pretty great.
And it's fun to watch soneone show of their own product if they're really proud of it^^
Well, I guess we'll wait for the uboxeeing now XD
The remote is sheer genius.
@k7of9
Found myself dismissing the box and instead focusing on the wheat thins, and then that remote.
Love how the keyboard is recessed - they could sell plenty of those remotes if priced correctly.
WTF if Spike Jonz doing advertising Boxee?
The shape... Cute? Yes. Impractical and dumb? Yes.
The remote, no backlight on the qwerty.... FAIL!!
Hear that? It's the clock ticking... They better get this thing out before it's too late. I love the Boxee concept, and appreciate that they are making sure they get it right, but you get the sense the project management in charge of launch has fallen down as "July" has turned into "Fall" or "November."
Google TV and a new Apple TV aren't far out. They have far more name recognition, marketing power, and the strength of their mobile OSs to power the experience. If Boxee/D-Link don't hurry up, they're going to get run over.
I was planning on buying one of these. I love boxee, but if it is going to be in the 3-400$ range I'd rather save and buy a new Mac mini and just purchase the remote separately.
I'd rather buy something with more than one use for a few hundred more.
Anyone else notice that this was filmed on an iPhone 4? Absolutely incredible quality for a phone.
