ASUS UL-series laptops surface at e-tailers with Core i3 ULV processor
If the pint-sized ASUS laptop above looks a wee bit familiar, it's because you've seen it before -- the 12-inch UL20FT is basically a refreshed UL20A, but with the surprisingly elusive Core i3 ULV guts. The UL20FT appeared at ExcaliberPC this weekend, while its Optimus-equipped big brother appears destined for Amazon; in a slight change of plans, both feature the 1.2GHz Core i3-330UM processor. While the $600 UL20FT is a solid netbook alternative, the $900 UL80JT has double the capacity (500GB) and memory (4GB) plus an optical disc drive, and if our review of its doppelganger is any indication, the 14-inch switchable graphics machine will have stellar battery life. Still, we can't help feel a little bummed by the lack of the Core i7-640UM we were originally promised.

Yes, lots of people were really excited about the UL30JT back in February when they first saw it at CES, as they did promise an i7 processor.
From the reviews I read, its seems the older U30VT may still be a better purchase (price to performance ratio) , plus Acer seems to be getting some great battery life from their Timeline X series using the Mobile i series processors rather than the CULV ones. I personally don't believe this will do too well.
I want my UL30 with a ULV i5 or i7 !!!!Come one Asus. Make this happen so I can buy one.
Heart Touching...Rock Solid
(my Asus mobo boot screen)
This would be great to sync with my iPhone 4 and iPad!
The 14" UL80 with Optimus and i3 ULV is on sale at Best Buy here for $699. Its a really nice looking laptop, need some benchmarks now.
The UL20FT was never promised to have anything higher than the i3-330UM.
Nice, i have been waiting for the i3 ULV laptops. Perfect for Grad School
FWIW ASUS often launches several versions of each model with slightly different specs so maybe the i7 one will still come along. They can't take all the blame for this anyways, intel is the one holding back on releasing all these ULV parts =(
Yeah, I was quite excited when I saw the ul80jt with the i7. Then I saw an announcement that it would initially ship with an i5. Now it's out with an i3. I feel a bit mislead, as I actually put off my laptop purchase until now, and frankly, now I'm leaning towards a 13" MBP. Who knows when/if it will ever ship with an i7, anyway?
Make it happen soon, Asus.
The iPhone 4 is awesome!
