Optoma's H79 home theater projector
Home theater projectors tend to get short shrift when compared to LCD and plasma displays; maybe it's because they're difficult to really show off in retail stores — or because a lot of the cheaper ones really aren't as sharp,
bright or quiet as their screen-based competitors. But they do keep getting better, especially at the high end, and Optoma's H79 DLP projector is proof of that. With a 1000 lumen bulb, a claimed contrast ratio of 4500:1 and support for 1080i and 720p, the $10,000 projector could meet most HDTV needs. And like all projectors, it offers something no screen can: massive display sizes, of up to 282 inches. Of course, to make an image that size, you'll need a room that's 32 feet long, but isn't that what the "great room" in your McMansion is there for?
