Hawking Tech's HBB1 Broadband Booster

If you're anything like us (i.e., diametrically opposed to slapping your Vonage box in front of your router), then you might want to take a gander at Hawking Technologies' new HBB1 Broadband Booster. You should well know by now you can't make data go faster than your ISP can fit in its pipe (yes, we know about the silly hacks like compressing it and all that), but you can definitely optimize for certain types of traffic. The HBB1 appears to rock in-line quality of service by layer 4 traffic analysis, and not by actually expecting your traffic to be QoS tagged—which in a home environment it rarely is.
In other words, it won't make your connection able to transmit more data than it already can, it'll just make sure the data that gets sent over the line is sent in order of importance, so VoIP, network gaming, video-conferencing, and the like will see performance benefits without a punch to your download's kidney.
