Brighten front-projection with a Mirage
If you want supersized HDTV, there's not much out on the consumer market beyond 65-inches or so. That size is roughly the limit of rear-projection these days. There's a few 70-odd-inch LCD's and PDP's out there, but the mainstream sets are in the 35- to 65-inch range. Front-projector units will get you XXL-sized HDTV, but typically require a much darker viewing environment. Until now.
Screen Innovations is touting their new Mirage Screen that claims a ten-times increase in contrast and double the brightness over standard front-projection screens. The Mirage Screen has a high contrast filter that allows light from your HD projector in, but keeps other light out by absorbing it. The Mirage, which we hope isn't a mirage, is available in sizes ranging from 60-inches to a whopping 120-inches diagonal.
