Sharp has a whole line of 1080p LCDs

I suppose in the near future we won't jump every time someone says "1080p". For now, it's still relatively new (and expensive), so well keep jumping. In fact, Sharp jumped out the gate with a whole line of 1080p LCDs by announcing the sets over in Japan. We did a little Babelfish translation on a press release for the 57-incher and here's what we can expect: 1500:1 contrast ration and a 4ms refresh time. Awesome!

There is also some mention of better black levels also, but it sort of gets lost in translation a little: "with the adoption of the color filter of new development. It
raises the gradation characteristic of black, at the dark room it
re-displays the black which has depth to real, it can enjoy the image
which has メリハリ even at the bright room.
" Sounds like some enhanced filtering, but we'll have to see.

One thing we can translate is the price: the 57-inch LCD will cost around $13,000 when it hits the streets in Japan before the end of the year. The LC-57GE2 is one of five new 1080p LCDs from Sharp ranging from 37- to 65-inches.
