Corsair Voyager flash drive delivers 19MB/sec transfers
We admit that speed hasn't exactly been our number one concern when looking at USB flash drives; as they've gotten bigger (in capacity), smaller (in size) and cheaper (in, you know),
we've just been looking to get the highest-capacity, smallest, cheapest one we could get onto our keychain. But speed does matter, especially if you're using your drive to transfer large files or run portable apps. So, the idea of spending over $100 for the 1GB Corsair Voyager, when you can get competing products for less than half that, may not be as crazy as it sounds. Corsair promises transfer rates of 19MB/sec over USB 2.0, but is it really all that fast? The Inq put one through its paces, and found out that the drive really does live up to the hype, transferring a 60MB AVI
file in 5 seconds, while a Lexar drive did it in 8.5 seconds. Results were even more impressive with batches of smaller files; a folder of 69 documents transferred in 5 seconds, vs. 20 on the Lexar. While we're not going to rush out and pick up a Voyager (which comes in 512MB and 2GB as well as 1GB) for all of our day-to-day needs, it's still tempting,
since we really do hate to wait for anything.
