Asus PM17TU and PM17TE LCDs with 3ms response

We have to admit to getting a bit of a kick out of the race to come out with LCD displays with faster and faster response times. After all, for the majority of (non-gaming,
non-action-film addicted) users, the difference between 7ms and 4ms isn't going to exactly be huge. However,
display-makers need ways to differentiate their products, and this is one way to do it. Of course, no sooner does one company up the ante, than another one comes along to match it. So, it's not surprising that Asus is crowing about its latest displays, the 17-inch PM17TU and PM17TE models,
which offer 3ms responses. According to the company, the PM17TU uses something called "Trace Free Technology," which uses an "anti-double-edge overdriving method with noise reduction circuits to reduce response time in all gray-to-gray levels."  Of course, that "gray-to-gray" mention is the giveaway that this display, like most of the others that tout their response times, still has a way to go. We want to see faster black-white-black responses — and we're sure the industry does as well, so they'll have yet another feature to hype.
