Netgear's Rangemax 240 increases 802.11g range & speed

Netgear is updating their RangeMax wireless line with the new Airgo Gen3 MIMO (Multi-In, Multi-Out) chipset, allowing theoretical speeds up to 240Mbps when using RangeMax 240 products on both ends, and it's also compatible with traditional 802.11b/g products, supposedly giving them up to a 50% boost in range and speed. They're claiming this is the first wireless solution to deliver "effective"
100Mbps throughput, which is nice of them to mention, because there was no way to squeeze that kind of bandwidth out of
"108Mbps" 802.11g solutions, but unless you're rocking the fiber-optics, you're probably not going to get much more internet speed to your laptop out of this. Instead, they're marketing it as a solution for streaming media off of your PC without impacting VOIP or other such activities, and we sure wouldn't mind if it could pull HDTV like they're claiming it can. The router and notebook card are due for the holidays priced at $199 and $129 respectively, with the USB 2.0 adapter available in 2006.
