Watch out for Acer LCDs next year
Acer
is shooting to increase their market share in LCDs next year.
I, for one, welcome another player into the ever-popular sport of escalating confusion for consumers by increasing the selection. With that being said, they do make nice products at modest prices so if they market them right, they shouldn't have a problem. Currently, they make 20-
through 37-inchers with 26's and 32's in between, all of which are made by Quanta Displays (think Apple LCDs). It doesn't matter how good the TVs are if Acer can't get the product to the consumer; if they can't do that they are not going to succeed. Acer is an IT company and they're going to have to develop new supply chains and distribution partners in order to increase the market share as planned. DigiTimes does point out in the article that IT companies do have better R&D though.
I have a confession to make though, as I am a very large Ferrari fan (my dogs' name is Ferrari Enzo Burns). You see, Acer has rights to the Ferrari brand and they've produced laptops and LCD monitors
with that name, but none of them have really caught my eye. Now if they bring a flat-panel HDTV to the market with the Ferrari crest on it, they have at least one sale: me.
