TDK only producing Blu-Ray media
TDK will either go down as the smartest or dumbest next-gen DVD media producer based on their recent decision to produce only Blu-Ray media. I got a chance to meet up with the TDK folks at CES last month and they were showing off single-layer 25 GB discs as well as dual-layer 50 GB disks. In fact, TDK was already pushing beyond the Blu-Ray specs with a quad-layer disc capable of 100 GB of storage. We still don't see what Hollywood plans to do with all of that space (nor do they), but regardless: is it really a good move to pick just one of the two competing media formats at this point?
