Skype 2.5 goes gold, adds SMS messaging

Did you ever notice, back in those 1950s & '60s "In The Future" news segments and featurettes, that nobody ever said "In the future, you'll be able to make free calls to anyone in the world, using your computer?" Probably because those shows were all sponsored by Ma Bell.

Our 2nd-favorite multimedia chat tool (and #1 disruptive technology) Skype for Mac 2.5 is out of beta today, adding free SMS messaging, 10-party chat and a new video codec to the usual slew of bug fixes. You can download it now and start chatting with all your far-flung friends; also, a reminder that today is also the last day for the discounted year of domestic calls SkypeOut deal. It's $14.95 through the end of 1/31, going up to $29.95 tomorrow.

Update: The SMS messages still require Skype Credit as before, apologies for the mixup.

Thanks Chaim!
