Altec Lansing intros Octiv Duo iPod speaker dock and Muzx earbuds

Altec Lansing's Octiv Mini just a wee bit too bantam for your needs? Fret not, as the same company has just issued a jumbo-sized version by the name of Octiv Duo ($99.95; ships in October). As the title implies, this iPod / iPhone speaker dock is capable of holding (and charging) a pair of iDevices, and a third unit can be juiced as well through the integrated USB port. If your pal's Sansa Fuze+ somehow ends up over at your place, the model-agnostic auxiliary port should suffice. Oddly enough, it's a free accompanying app that really sells this thing -- the Music Mix application shuffles songs from both players and allows users to set the percentage of music played from each iPhone or iPod while docked, ensuring that you and your SO never stop bickering about who has the better playlist. In related news, the outfit has also introduced a trio of Muzx headphones, with the Core, Extra and Ultra editions shipping between now and next month for $29.99, $49.95 and $99.95 in order of mention. More details on each, along with a video of Music Mix in action, await you just beyond the break. %Gallery-102351%

ALTEC LANSING UNVEILS NEW PREMIUM EARPHONES FOR THE DISCERNING AUDIO ENTHUSIAST

The New Muzx Ultra Noise Isolating Earphones Have Perfected Balanced Armature Technology to Give Users an Immersive Soundstage and High Definition Audio

MILFORD, PA – September 15, 2010 – Drawing upon more than 70 years of audio heritage and expertise, Altec Lansing today announces the newest addition to their Muzx earphone line with the premium Muzx Ultra (MZX606) in-ear headphones. Engineered to feel great, look great and most important sound great, the new Muzx Ultra headphones realize the full potential of balanced armature technology to impart astonishing audio clarity.

The audio quality from the Muzx Ultra earphones delivers a balanced and rich signal, precisely the way music is intended from the original recording. When listening on an iPod, iPhone, iPad, MP3 player or computer, music comes to life, enveloping the user in an immersive soundstage. To provide clarity throughout the mid and high ranges, the frequency response is a broad 20Hz to 20kHz, with crisp bass that never overwhelms.

Ideal for everyday use, the Muzx Ultra has an impressive 26 dB isolation to shield the user from extraneous background noise such as traffic, engine noise and crowds. The in-line remote allows users to control an iPhone or iPod easily, while the in-line microphone makes a seamless transition to telephone calls.

"The Muzx Ultra earphones are an exciting product for us. Our passion for music is engineered into the line to create a premium earphone with exceptional sound that stands up against much more expensive competitors," stated Will Squier, Altec Lansing product manager. "Earphones are so prevalent in our everyday lives that they have also become a form of personal expression, and these headphones complement even the most unique personal style."

Design and Technology
The Muzx Ultra earphones utilize single balanced armature technology that creates more sound from less power and an extensive range of audible frequencies. The technology differs from conventional drivers by employing a variable position armature "floating" in a magnetic field. When a specific current is applied, the armature shifts to control a diaphragm to create the precise sound.

Altec Lansing understands that music is the ultimate personal expression of lifestyle, from audiophiles to chic fashionistas. The design is industrial yet timeless, and is a matching accessory for any look. The 46" cable has a precision-engineered strain relief component at the driver and another separate strain relief component at the gold plated 3.5mm jack. Altec chose to provide extra engineered reinforcement at these locations since they tend to be the most frequent tension failure points for all earphones. Those on the go will appreciate the unique cord design that minimizes friction and Altec's SnugFit™ design that can be worn comfortably on a ride cross-town or cross-country. The earphones ship with an eight-piece fitting kit and a carrying case.

The Muzx Series of Sound Isolating Earphones
The Altec Lansing Muzx line of headphones is also being expanded to two more models, including the Muzx Core (MZX206) and Muzx Extra (MZX406). The Muzx Core features a large 10mm Neodymium driver for crystal clear audio and an in-line microphone. For bass lovers, the Muzx Extra allows users to feel the richness of deep tones and control their compatible devices with a full-featured Apple in-line remote.

Ultimate Sound Guarantee
Altec Lansing offers consumers the Ultimate Sound Guarantee, which promises that if these are not the best sounding earphones for the price, users can simply return them to the store within 30 days of purchase for a full refund.
