The Queue: /salute, Keeria

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky will be your host today.

/salute, old guildie.

Kaorael asked:

Will archeology be available as soon as 4.0.3a and The Shattering of the world take place, or will we have to wait till the Cataclysm release for it?

You'll need to wait until Cataclysm is released on Dec. 7th.

Deadulus asked:

In the beta, are there gas clouds for engineers to harvest volatiles from? I'd hate to have to retire my Zapthrottle Mote Extractor ...

I haven't seen any, and neither have others. But as everyone has noted, volatiles drop from everything, so I don't think primordials are going to be that hard to come by yourself. And certainly they're going to be a ton on the AH, which you can buy with your daily monies.

Engineering has a lot of cool other gadgets, though; I doubt many will miss the gas cloud farming.

Spelio asked:

I am currently trying to get this and I need about 140 quests in Kalmidor to finish. I am hoping to complete this before Cataclysm, but I have heard that your progression will be wiped if you are not done by patch 4.0.3. With The Shattering coming soon (before the actual Cataclysm release), will the wipe happen at The Shattering or with Cataclysm's release? I have not been able to find any clarification on this. Let's hope someone out there knows for certain.

Here's some clarification from Ghostcrawler:

Ghostcrawler
The exploration and quest achievements probably won't change. If you have the achievements, you won't lose them. If you don't have them, you can still get them, but obviously you'll have different quests or areas to explore. The greatest risk is to players who are almost done with one of these achievements, because they might suddenly have to do more than they thought (say 100 quests instead of 50).

We aren't removing MC or BWL as of this writing. We aren't going out of our way to remove old legendaries. The only risk there in a case like Thunderfury is if we change a zone like Silithus so much that the quests become hard to keep intact.

You can still get "What a Long Strange Trip It's Been." In general, we are going to go bend over backwards to not remove existing achievements.

Now this post was several months ago, but it still stands as far as I can tell. If you've earned 55/700 quests, then come The Shattering (which is likely next Tuesday), you'll be at 55/900 quests (or whatever the number of quests in Kalimdor is now). If you already have earned the achievement, then you've already earned the achievement, and that won't be going away.

Please be aware though that this information is kind of old, and things could change -- even between now and next Tuesday.

Josin asked:

If Mike Sacco is playing basketball and leaps from behind the three-point line and dunks the ball, does he earn three points or two?

Sacco's more of the male cheerleader type. His hair is too pretty for sports.
