I Am Alive confirmed for XBLA and PSN, coming 'this winter'

Despite a long-term disappearance (perhaps into the bowels of the Earth?), Ubisoft's I Am Alive will arrive on consoles via Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, confirming previous suspicions. The game is said to arrive at some point "this winter."

Following the story of a yet-to-be-named "everyman," Ubisoft Shanghai's I Am Alive is a digital romp through a city (Chicago, last we saw) that has undergone a devastating catastrophe. Resultantly, said everyman must fight for survival against the elements as well as various other people, all the while attempting to find his wife and daughter.

Combat is said to be based on intimidation more than brute force (briefly demonstrated in the original announce teaser). We'll presumably have more info for you soon, as Ubisoft finally seems ready to talk about the game once again.

Update: Ubisoft confirmed with Joystiq that there are currently no plans for a PC version of I Am Alive.%Gallery-135209%

SAN FRANCISCO - September 29, 2011 - Today, Ubisoft® announced that I Am Alive, a post-apocalyptic action/adventure game, is coming to Xbox LIVE® Arcade for the Microsoft Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Sony PlayStation® Network this winter. Developed by Ubisoft Shanghai, I Am Alive was engineered to create a convincing, post-disaster world in which players are faced with thought-provoking choices.

I Am Alive follows an everyman's journey to find his wife and daughter, who were lost during the "Event." A year later, he finds Haventon, his hometown, in shambles. Buildings are destroyed, toxic ash fills the streets, and society has been torn, causing inhabitants to take all necessary actions to survive.

"We know people have been waiting for this game to arrive, and we believe it's going to be worth the wait," said Adam Novickas, Director of Marketing at Ubisoft. "I Am Alive presents a unique take on the post-apocalyptic, survival genre by creating more complex and emotional situations for the player. Xbox LIVE Arcade and PlayStation Network are the perfect platforms to leverage the mature and challenging experiences of the game."

In I Am Alive, players will be challenged by both their environment and their enemies. Stamina and resource management are key when being exposed to deadly atmospheres and scaling enormous buildings in search of supplies. The unique combat system requires players to utilize intimidation: cowards are easily swayed with an empty gun, while other enemies will put players to the test.
