The Queue: What's going on, eh?

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky (@adamholisky) will be your host today.

Hey, apparently lots of people were talking about the Earth yesterday.

Damn, that is a sweet Earth you might say.

Littlehoo asked:

Question for the Queue: To earn the achievement Mountain o' Mounts now after 5.0.4, does it require that 100 mounts are earned/purchased on a single toon? Or does it not matter as long as, cumulatively, across all your toons you have obtained 100 mounts?

It's cumulative. As long as you have 100 mounts from all your toons you'll get the achievement.

Carune asked:

What is up with all the I quit threads on the forums. Which half of them seem to be either super long wall of texts, or full of contradictions.

Sorry if I sound a little brash here, but this kind of crap happens all the time after every major content patch, and it's getting pretty old these days. What you've got is a lot of people (children and adults alike) who don't get that the game changes and expect a static experience like they get with MW3 or whatever the latest Doom clone is.

Add to the mix the anonymous internet and John Gabriel's proven G.I.F. Theory, and you've got yourself a situation where people run to the forums to complain about everything and anything.

And you want to know what's really funny? The vast majority of them don't quit, and if they do, still pay close attention to WoW. They'll swear up and down they don't, but in reality a whole bunch of them still keep an eye out for what Blizzard is doing with the game.

I spend an insane amount of time looking at statistics about our large sample of visitors here, and I can say beyond a doubt that a healthy number are inactive players just keeping tabs on things that'll bring them back.

So what I'm getting at in my rant is this: these players might be saying they're quitting, but they're really just being annoying.

JosephMoore asked:

Can we train pet battles yet?

Nope! Not until Mists release on September 25.

JosephMoore also asked:

Why is the earth round?

There's two parts to answer this question. First, the Earth is approximately round because gravity is pulling in all matter (and itself is acted upon by all matter) in a roughly equalized way. Think if you place a bowling ball on a smoothed bed sheet, it indents the sheet and pulls everything near by to it. That's just what the Earth does in the spacetime continuum. Gravity attracts the other objects, and the other objects in turn increase the gravity.

Secondly, be aware that the Earth itself isn't exactly round. Because of the centrifugal forces the Earth is a big bigger near the equator than it is elsewhere.

Of course this is an over simplified view, and I'm sure there will be lots of armchair physicists (and perhaps some real ones!) to correct and nitpick me in the comments.
