World of Warcraft subs increase to 7.8 million

World of Warcraft

A successful BlizzCon and the announcement of upcoming expansion Warlords of Draenor seems to have been a positive thing for World of Warcraft; Activision-Blizzard is reporting that the game's subscriber numbers have received a slight bump from 7.6 million in November 2013 to 7.8 million through the fourth quarter of the year.

Numbers for the MMO behemoth have been on the decline as of late, with the most notable dive coming in the form of a 1.3 million player exodus reported early in 2013. With the financial year now at an end, we can trace WoW's subscriber numbers through each of 2013's reported quarters: 8.3 million in the first, 7.7 million in the second, 7.6 million in the third, and 7.8 million in the fourth.

World of Warcraft subs tend to ebb and flow in sync with the release of expansions, so we'll get a better hint of the strength of the game's staying power when Warlords of Draenor launches later this year.
