Players cast 97 million spells in Magicka: Wizard Wars
After dropping into open beta only a week ago, Magicka: Wizard Wars has reached 500,000 downloads, Paradox Interactive has announced. The publisher adds that players have cast a total of 97,704,758 spells. That's just about 195 spells per download, by our reckoning. The warm reception has prompted Paradox to increase Wizard Wars' server capacity – quadrupling it, according to Paradox North studio manager, John Hargelid.
If you want to try out Wizard Wars particular brand of sorcerer blasting, you can grab the free open beta from Steam (just don't call it a MOBA).

Magicka: Wizard Wars Welcomes Half a Million Robe Warriors
500,000 Downloads Reached for Paradox's PvP Pursuit,

STOCKHOLM - June 4, 2014 - Paradox Interactive and Paradox North today announced that Magicka: Wizard Wars, the online spellcasting action player-vs-player (PvP) game where Wizards compare each other's flammability, has been downloaded over 500,000 times. Since the game began its Open Beta phase last week, Magicka: Wizard Wars has expanded its community to over half a million players and together they've cast 97,704,758 spells during the first week. Positive reception from players and media alike has prompted Paradox to add more servers and keep the pool of available magical talent growing.
"If we could personally shake hands with each player and give them our thanks, we would, but there's too many; it'd probably mean a hiatus from actually working on the game," said John Hargelid, Studio Manager for Paradox North. "We're delighted that everybody likes the game so far, but this is just the beginning for Magicka: Wizard Wars. We've quadrupled server capacity since last week and we're adding more servers, ironing the creases out of the robes, making sure the Wizard entrails are the right consistency – everything it takes to make sure the game stays a strong entry in the legacy of Magicka."
The Open Beta for Magicka: Wizard Wars is free to download and play immediately, where teams of Wizards go head-to-head in intense player-versus-player (PvP) action. Utilizing the celebrated spellcasting system of Magicka, Wizards combine elements to generate on-the-fly spells and secure victory for their team. Players can also hone their skills against one another in the one-on-one duel mode, utilizing all of their tricks in order to be the last robe standing. With short battles, skill-based spellcasting, and plenty of humor, Magicka: Wizard Wars presents a new way to experience the chaos of Magicka with friends and foes alike.
