Deal of the Day: Cheap PS3 games at Gamefly
Despite GameStop being the biggest video game retail chain in this universe, Gamefly routinely has much better deals on used games. Plus, the online rental chain always guarantees boxes and manuals with its games, something that GameStop doesn't do.To prove my previous assertion, Gamefly is having a sale for the ages with free shipping on every game until Jan. 4. Plus, if you're already a subscriber, you'll get 5-to-10 percent off each game. Here are just a few of the great deals to be had. MLB 2K7 - $13 All-Pro Football 2K8 - $15 Tony Hawk's Project 8 $20 Sega Rally Revo - $20 The Bigs - $20 F.E.A.R. First Encounter - $25 Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - $26 Sure, these games may not be the cream of the PS3's proverbial crop, but they're all pretty solid titles, and if you haven't had the chance to play them yet, here's a great opportunity.

Christmas comes early: Free Folklore add-on pack available this week
With just a few days before Christmas, Game Republic and SCEA are getting in the holiday spirit by offering a free Folklore add-on pack this week. The free download via the PlayStation Store includes two new winter-themed outfits for Ellen and Keats, a new quest called "Holy Night Visitor" for Keats and an entirely new Folk named Grab Bag.Ellen sports a new red snow-bunny outfit with matching earmuffs, while Keats' new outfit consists of a white trench coat and a holiday themed beanie and sweater. Ellen is sure to get Mrs. Claus jealous with her sweet red snow-bunny outfit complete with the earmuffs. This is a gracious offering from Game Republic, and we can only hope that it might pique a few gamer's interest enough to go out and buy this great game.
Valkyrie of the Battlefield still looking amazing
If you haven't realized it already, we're pretty big fans of Sega's upcoming strategy game Valkyrie of the Battlefield. In the newest video that's been released, it appears to show pieces of the game's opening cinematics and other gameplay footage that shows the game's unique twist on the strategy genre. While there's been no confirmation that the title will head to the West, it just looks so damn beautiful that we're continuing to hold out hope. Valkyrie is developed by Sega's Overworks studio, the same guys who brought us Shinobi, Streets of Rage, Phantasy Star, The House of the Dead and Skies of Arcadia. With such a legendary list of games up its sleeve, we just can't help but be entirely confident that its newest title will have awesomeness in spades.
Pachter thinks Mass Effect is coming to PS3
Michael Pachter has certainly had his hits and misses, but if his latest hunch turns out to be true, we'll be pretty damn happy. While filming an episode of Bonus Round on Gamespot, Pachter suggested that EA will port Mass Effect to the PS3. Since EA expects $300 million in revenue a year from Bioware and Pandemic, it wasn't looking to only publish games on the 360, he said."I wouldn't be surprised if Mass Effect 1 came to PS3, the Wedbush Morgan analyst said. "It has to."After already selling a million copies in three weeks, Mass Effect is a certifiable hit, and we all know much EA likes to spread its library across as many platforms as possible to maximize revenue. We just hope that if it does happen, it will be as soon as possible, or if we do have to wait awhile, we can get some exclusive bonus content. We just can't get enough of that lesbian alien sex![Via Joystiq]
Worldwide PSP releases for the week of Dec. 16
After several weeks with a plethora of releases, it looks like our European friends will take a little time off this week to enjoy all those games they've recently purchased. While gamers in North America are finally getting some new releases, those in Asia are getting several, as well.NA Games Atari Classics Evolved Luxor: Pharoah's Challenge MTX vs. ATV Untamed EU Games No new releases Asia Games Hajime no Ippo Portable: Victorious Spirits Yuusha no Kuse ni Namaikida Legend of Heroes: Sora no Kiseki Complete Version Maplus: Portable Navi 2 Patapon Sora no Kiseki Material Collection Portable It looks as if Atari Classics Evolved is finally getting released this week after being delayed. Tell me again how hard it is to port more than 20-year-old games to a handheld?

Miyamoto claims he's never heard of Ratchet & Clank
Remember back when Insomniac's Ryan Schneider created controversy by saying they were "extremely flattered" by Super Mario Galaxy's supposed borrowing of the spherical world design that Insomniac first created with Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando and Up Your Arsenal?Well, Miyamoto has finally found the opportunity to weigh in on Schneider's claim, and apparently, the Mario creator hasn't even heard of the series at all, including the PS3's newly released Tools of Destruction. When asked his thought's on Schneider's comment, Miyamoto said, "I'm sorry, but I have to admit that I've never seen the game in question. Is it a PC game?" Ooooh, burn!Continuing, Miyamoto expressed his surprise by the claim and even said "In terms of the spherical worlds and anti-gravity, we had the original idea as soon as we finished the development of Mario 64 and had been experimenting with it for many years, even on the N64." So there you have it. If Miyamoto is to be believed, and why shouldn't he be, Nintendo didn't borrow anything from Insomniac. Both companies make brilliant games, and we see no reason to think that both couldn't have come up with such a design concept entirely on their own.
Battle the darkness, save the light in Dark Mist
Not much has been shown of Game Republic's Dark Mist, despite it being released on the Japanese PlayStation Network early last month. However, this new gameplay video really shows what we can expect. As Artemis, the warrior of light, you're tasked with traveling through dangerous dungeons to stop the demon king in shrouding the world in darkness. To do that, you'll use such amazingly named powers as Split Star, Meteor Flare and the awe-inspiring Lightning Comet! The game is supposed to be released in Europe sometime this month, but we still haven't heard of a U.S. release as of yet. Stay tuned!
Jaffe gives brief update on God of War movie
Despite most video game movies being of pretty low quality, we actually think the God of War movie has the potential to be incredibly awesome. And thankfully, series' creator David Jaffe has just given us an update on his blog after he recently had lunch with the movie's producer."Some big news could be coming on that front soon but nothing set in stone yet," he wrote. "But yeah, the project is still alive! And looking strong!"While that's not much to go on, it's just great to know that work is still ongoing, and we can't wait to hear what kind of big news is on its way.[Via 1up]
Viking: Battle for Asgard still looks incredible
Sure, we've played games with basically the same premise, location and enemies as Viking: Battle for Asgard, but one thing's for certain, we haven't grown tired of them yet. Battle for Asgard is shaping up to be a must-buy, and with The Creative Assembly, which is responsible for the excellent Total War series, at the helm, we're confident that it will deliver the goods. The game has a spring 2008 release date, which is great, because we should finally be finished with our immense backlog of games to devote our attention to it.
Afrika gets music composer
No, we still don't really know a whole lot about Afrika. We know it looks gorgeous, and we'll be taking photos of wild animals rumbling across the African plain. But today, we know one more thing about the mysterious title – Wataru Hokoyama has been tasked with composing the game's music. No, never heard of him? Neither have we, but that's probably because he's never created video game music before. However, the composer has already put together a 104-piece orchestra to begin the long road in creating beautiful music that we all hope can match the game's already stellar graphics.
Blu-ray movie releases for the week of Dec. 11
Following up on last week's strong lineup of Blu-ray releases, we're treated to an even meatier menu to feast over. This week is, perhaps, one of the greatest moments for Potter fans as all five movies come to Blu-ray.Harry Potter Limited Edition Gift Set: Years 1-5 Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets High School Musical 2: Extended Edition Lost: The Complete Third Season Led Zeppelin: The Song Remains the Same The Legend of Zorro Rent SOS! Tokyo Metro Explorers: The NextHowever, if Potter isn't your thing, there's always Led Freaking Zeppelin. And if you don't like Zeppelin, may we suggest High School Musical 2?

Worldwide PSP releases for the week of December 2
Yay for licensed games! While some people would normally be upset with most of the games being released this week of the licensed variety, we're just happy that we're getting any releases at all, which hasn't happened in North America the past couple weeks. Across the pond, however, the Europeans are rewarded with a massive release of games. Good luck playing them all! Importers will be most interested in Yuusha, the new anti-hero RPG that's been gaining a fair bit of attention amongst the PSP hardcore. NA Games Beowulf: The Game The Golden Compass Warriors of the Lost Empire EU Games Beowulf: The Game NBA Live 08 Pimp My Ride Pursuit Force: Extreme Justice SOCOM: U.S. Navy Seals Tactical Strike Sonic Rivals 2 Telly Addicts Wipeout Pulse Worms Open Warfare Platinum Yu Gi Oh! GX Tag Force 2 Asia Games Dungeon Maker 2 Yuusha no Kuse ni Namaikida Noticeably absent from this week's releases is Atari Classics Evolved, which is apparently delayed until early 2008. Despite that, however, we're sure gamers from all regions can find something worthwhile to play this week.
Blu-ray movie releases for the week of Dec. 2
After last week's less-than-stellar offering, we're back to more of the heavy hitters. This week features a couple movies just seeing their first releases and a classic that's sure to look wonderful on Blu-ray. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End Superbad: Unrated Extended Special Edition Elton 60: Live at Madison Square Garden Queen Rock Montreal & Live Aid Mr. & Mrs. Smith Cast Away 20 Million Miles to Earth While we'll kindly pass on seeing Elton John in hi-definition, we're huge fans of anything Judd Apatow touches, so Superbad is a must buy. And despite watching Cast Away at least a dozen times, we'll happily pick it up to see one of Tom Hanks' best performances ever.
