Read MoreGraphics have come a long way in the last 20 years. We've gone from simple white squares on a screen to photorealistic cutscenes and gameplay. We used to have monochrome backgrounds, and now we've got lush, textured environments. Most players come upon a game with an expectation of what level of graphical advancement they would like to see. Likewise, gameplay has evolved in leaps and bounds. We no longer suffer extreme death penalties, and we can find random people to run dungeons and raids with by only clicking a couple of buttons. New gameplay ideas are being presented seemingly with each patch, and to a lot of success -- a simple gameplay hook can keep people coming back and playing a game for months, even years. But are the two mutually exclusive, and have they become so? Obviously, in an MMO, no one wants to run around an ugly world populated by trees that look like pipe cleaners, but is it a deal breaker? Would you rather play a fun, fulfilling game that looks a bit dated or play the most gorgeous, graphically stunning MMO that may lack good mechanics or an involving story?
Read MoreLast Wednesday, another story came to a close. Readers were shown the early days of not only Brynne and Lisaara but their indomitable Papa as well, the older dwarf who adopted and loved them like his own. We got to see the heartbreaking story of Komlir Stonestrike, who even after answering the Alliance's call lost everything he held dear. Finally, we got to see how our dear Horde grunts fit into the whole time line. The writer, Jeff, and I felt it was important for the readers to have a sense of what their adoptive father was like. We felt that it not only fleshed out the girls' history much better, but you would also get a much greater sense of loss, knowing what a great man (dwarf?) Stonestrike really was. Yes, he was a workaholic (can you be a workaholic in the military?), but he ended up paying the ultimate price for it. While it's short, Papa had a story of redemption and acted on his new-found desire to make up for unwittingly abandoning his family. As with all projects I undertake, I always hope to come out learning something new. I felt that as a whole, this little morsel of a story turned out quite nicely, although drawing dwarves is hard; I won't lie. I'm also the resident Photoshop wizard when someone ... needs something Photoshopped, I suppose. What's your main? My main is Cadistra, a female Tauren feral druid. She was my first character that I made on a trial account, and I couldn't be happier. She's also the co-star of my webcomic, World of Warcraft, Eh? What's the best 5-man instance in the game? What's the best raid? The best 5-man? A bizarre tie of Halls of Reflection, the new Deadmines, and Oculus. HoR, because when I looked behind me after Arthas had fended off Sylvanas and he started walking after me, I was scared like you wouldn't believe. That steady, unyielding pace, while myself and the rest of my team was frantically slaying the undead ... I will always remember that. DM, because it's genuinely fun, and Oculus, because I enjoyed the dragon mechanics. Also, I adore the voice acting for Ley-Guardian Eregos. I don't raid, but I love doing old content. My favorite raid is the Temple of Ahn'Quiraj. That place felt epic. Gross, but epic.
