Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2025: Live updates on Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7 and Watch 8

We're expecting to see new foldable phones and smartwatches, among other things.

Welcome to Brooklyn, NY where Samsung is unveiling new foldable phones at its latest Galaxy Unpacked event. According to a massive leak yesterday, we'll likely see the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7 and Z Flip 7 FE. That's in line with the expectations of Samsung's usual summer foldable releases that have happened for the past few years.

Adding weight to that report is the fact that Samsung even teased "the next chapter of Ultra" in early June, showing the silhouette of a foldable spinning around in an animation. You can read our whole article on what we expect to see at Unpacked today for the details, in case you can't wait a few more hours.

Otherwise, buckle in to watch the livestream below and follow live commentary from our own Sam Rutherford on the scene.

  • Galaxy Unpacked 2025: Everything Samsung announced including the Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Watch 8

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 line comes in three colors.

Pre-release leaks may have spoiled most of the surprises Samsung had up its sleeve for Wednesday's Unpacked event, but there were still some interesting details to gleam from the presentation. For example, we knew the Galaxy Z Fold 7 would be Samsung's thinnest foldable ever, but now we know part of the reason for that is because the company dropped S Pen support. Samsung also announced updates to its family of Galaxy Watch devices, and a pair of Z Flips, the slim Z Flip 7 and affordable Z Flip 7 FE. If you missed the show, you can read through our live blog below, or catch up on everything at the link below.

  • As a recap, this is how much all the new devices announced today cost:

    • Galaxy Z Fold 7: $1,999.99 (aka $2,000) to start

    • Galaxy Z Flip 7: $1,099.99 ($1,100) starting price

    • Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE: $899.99 ($900)

    • Galaxy Watch 8: $349.99 for the smaller 40mm Wi-Fi model, $379.99 for the 44mm version and LTE configurations cost $400 and $430 for the small and large sizes respectively.

    • Galaxy Watch 8 Classic: $500 for the Wi-Fi model, which is a jump from the predecessor's $400.

    • Galaxy Watch Ultra in Titanium Blue with 64GB of storage: $650

You can check out our story on how to pre-order the Galaxy Unpacked devices for more details on deals, specs and configurations.

  • So now that Samsung has announced the prices for these new foldables, it's worth sharing a note from our commerce team on relevant Prime Day deals today. Here's a quick summary from our executive editor John Falcone:

"Samsung Galaxy S24 FE ($470, originally $650): When this remixed version of the S24 appeared last year, reviewer Igor Bonifacic noted it was a "great phone, but I wish it was cheaper." With this Prime Day discount, he got his wish — just as new Samsungs are hitting the launchpad.

Samsung Galaxy S25 ($585, originally $800): It's less than six months old, but you can snag Samsung's state of the art S25 handset for its lowest price to date. It's an ideal phone for anyone who wants an alternative to the Appleverse.

Samsung S25+ ($700, originally $1,000): This step-up to the regular Galaxy S25 isn't quite as fancy as the Ultra, but at this price, some will find it to be a worthwhile Goldilocks phone.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra ($950, originally $1,300): The king of Samsung's non-foldable phone line gets a hefty $300-plus price cut for Prime Day."

  • No Galaxy S25 FE either! It's a nice feeling when all your guesses turn out to be true.

  • And now TM Roh is back on stage to close things out.

Important to note, no teasers or previews for other upcoming products. So we're going to have to keep waiting for concrete news about that rumored tri-fold phone.

  • Our hands-on video posits that we might have the "most antioxidant-deficient hands-on of the Galaxy Watch 8" so Mat you might be onto something here.

  • And here's another small break for Samsung to talk more about its ongoing sustainability efforts. Samsung is trying to support a circular economy that removes plastic from the ocean and reuses that in its devices.

  • First impressions of the Galazy Z Flip 7

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7

Here's the eminently flippable Mat Smith on the Galazy Z Flip 7, which he had a little time with before the show:

"This year, the biggest change is a larger 4.1-inch second display with cutouts for the dual cameras. This occupies the entire front surface of the device and is a considerable increase from the 3.4-inch display of last year's Z Flip 6. (It also looks a lot like Moto's most recent foldable.)

The Flex Window is also better in almost every way. It can reach peak brightness levels of 2,600 nits (matching the S25 Ultra), has a 120Hz refresh rate and the thinnest bezel yet (1.25mm) of any Samsung smartphone. The front screen is a significant improvement over the Z Flip 6, but refinements also extend to the main display.

Samsung has expanded the primary internal screen to 6.9 inches, up from 6.4 inches. It's now in the more typical smartphone display ratio of 21:9. Previous Flips had a more elongated screen, making it harder to paw at the upper corners. This means video content fits better, too."

  • For those interested, there's a new 2025 version of the Galaxy Watch Ultra which includes almost all of the new software features along with more storage (64GB) and more.

  • Cherlynn Low, most toxic editor at Engadget. Now we have the proof. We're watching Samsung's product showcase for the Watch 8, starring Paul 'Meh'-scal.

  • Samsung's slimmer Galaxy Watch 8 series includes Gemini access

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 8, Galaxy Watch 8 Classic and Galaxy Ultra (Titanium Blue model) laid out on a wooden surface.

Samsung just unveiled the Galaxy Watch 8 at its Unpacked event today. This is a fairly major redesign with some nifty-looking features. It boasts a smaller profile, with the company claiming it's the slimmest smartwatch it has ever made. It's 8.6mm thick, which makes it around 11 percent slimmer than the Watch 7. It's also the first Samsung smartwatch to ship with Wear OS 6, which comes stummed with Google Gemini features.

The Watch 8 will be available in the standard configuration, but the company is also prepping a Watch 8 Classic. This one comes with the rotating bezel that has long-been popular with Samsung fans. Both versions feature brighter displays that get up to 3,000 nits. The standard Watch 8 series comes in 40mm and 44mm sizes, but the Classic is only available as a 46mm model.

  • Yea, Sam, I don't know if you gave it a try, but my antioxidant test readings at our Samsung hands-on yielded utterly abysmal results. How dare they say my antioxidant index scores were "Very Low." How dare.

  • I wonder if Samsung has a special love for the letter "X" the way some other people in tech do. DeX, Bixby and now Xealth...

  • One funny thing is that during our hands-on session, we heard that only one person in the whole demo got a "good" antioxidant score, which says a lot about how bad people's modern diets are.

  • Ohhhh, so that's how you pronounce "Xealth" — the company Samsung announced yesterday that it acquired. That's "Zelle-th" for those of you who needed the phonetic help.

  • Another new feature is that the Watch 8 can now measure your antioxidant levels. But getting readings is a little awkward because you have to take the watch off and put your thumb on the sensors on the back of the device.

  • That was a (blissfully brief) awkward exchange with Samsung's John Englehardt.

  • Samsung is talking up the Watch 8's training and running coaching features with help from world record half marathon runner Jacob Kiplimo.

  • Samsung brought on Ugandan long-distance runner Jacob Kiplimo to share some tips on how to improve your running performance, which feels like a more relevant celebrity cameo than in past Unpackeds. Remember the Sydney Sweeney AI demo?

  • There's a new kind of running trainer built into the Galaxy Watch 8. It can gauge your running level then assign you to one of ten levels. Maybe this will get me back to 5K.

  • First impressions of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 features a massive design revamp including a larger 8-inch flexible display.

We might be looking at the Galaxy Watch 8 right now, but our foldable connoisseur Sam Rutherford had the opportunity to spend a little time with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 before the show. Here are his thoughts:

"Samsung has finally made a big flagship foldable that won't weigh you down compared to an equivalent glass brick like the S25 Ultra. Its new main camera sensor offers a huge jump in resolution while refinements like a faster chip and its streamlined design contribute to a much more well-rounded package. The one issue is that starting at $2,000, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 remains prohibitively expensive."

  • So for me the bad news is that Samsung is continuing with this circle mashed up with a square design we first saw on last year's Watch 7 Ultra. Samsung calls it the cushion design and I truly do not understand it.

The good news is that it looks like the Galaxy Watch Classic is making a comeback. This includes that signature rotating bezel, which remains the coolest feature on any smartwatch.

  • Man, they really blew through the Z Flip 7 FE reveal. We've got the specs and barring a processor change and 2025's software additions, this is just... the Z Flip 6?

  • Galaxy Z Flip 7 colors

  • Next up: The new Galaxy Watch 8 family.

  • But wait, there's more. We're getting a Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE too, which is the first time we've gotten an FE edition of one of Samsung's foldables.

  • Four new colors. The blue and red options are particularly eye-catching. Another limited-edition Mint option will be as an online exclusive.

  • Hogan just said the Flip 7's cameras help you get great pictures, "whether you're flexing your best angles with Flex Mode" or in other scenarios.

I'm always flexing my best angles with or without Flex Mode. However, this is truly one of my favorite features on foldable phones.

  • The Instant Slow-mo feature also uses AI to generate new frames when capturing video

  • Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 7 has a bigger battery and is still thinner than last year's model

    Three foldable phones.

Samsung has launched the Galaxy Z Flip 7, along with the Z Flip 7 FE and the Z Fold 7, during its latest Unpacked event. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 has a 4.1-inch Super AMOLED Flex Window, which is the largest external display on a Z Flip model yet. It's also the slimmest iteration of the Flip so far, measuring only 13.7 mm in thickness when folded, and has a larger battery (4,300mAh) than any of its predecessors. The Galaxy Z Flip 7's main display is a 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen that has a peak brightness of 2,600 nits and a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. Samsung says its Armor FlexHinge is thinner than previous generation's hinges and features a restructured design with high-strength materials for better durability and smoother folds.

  • We just saw a quick video showing off Gemini Live on the Flip 7's cover screen; Google's AI helped a man pick an outfit for both him and his dog that it said matched, but absolutely didn't. Where's the quality control?

  • Samsung's next promo features skateboarder Sky Brown. And all her friends have Z Flips!

  • Naturally, Samsung is showing off Flexcam on the Flip 7, which gives you a ton of versatility when shooting photos and videos, especially when you're by yourself and don't have someone to hold the phone for you.

  • They're really speeding through the Flip's new features, which include a new 120Hz edge-to-edge cover screen, the largest battery in a Flip yet (4,300mAh) and support for a bunch of AI tools.

  • The new Galaxy Z Flip 7.

  • I'm a Flip guy, not a Fold guy, so I'm very much ready!

  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 information sheet

  • Next up: the Galaxy Z Flip 7!

  • Can I just say that the Fold 7's super thin profile really appeals to me. This thing looks so slick (and sleek).

  • Audio eraser also works in more apps like Samsung Notes, the Gallery, during calls and more. It can also turn on automatically to help reduce ambient noises.

  • We're talking through a lot of features Samsung first introduced in the S25 series. Audio Eraser is pretty good!

  • Samsung says it has also optimized the Z Fold 7's UI, so it's easier to edit photos and see side-by-side results on the big screen.

  • Now we're back to talking camera upgrades again, which is headlined by the Fold 7's new 200MP main camera sensor.

10-bit HDR for videos will also be enabled by default.

Its outside selfie camera now has a wider 100-degree FOV as well, which is up from 85 degrees on the previous model if my memory serves me right.

  • It would be quite a flex (oop) to connect your new Z Flip 7 to your 65-inch OLED TV.

  • I still love Dex and it's a bit sad Samsung hasn't invested more in that over the past couple years.

  • There will also be a new level to Samsung's Knox security protocol called Keep that will ensure your info and data stays on device and can't be shared between apps.

  • Which Samsung feature makes you groan more? The company's Knox security banter, or Dex? Please, mention Dex.

  • Annika Bizon, Samsung VP of brand and channel marketing

Samsung's Annika Bizon is here to talk about how the Fold 7 is a productivity powerhouse, which yes of course.

  • Is this not the longest demo video ever.

  • The biggest innovation was matching this woman's glasses to her blue Z Fold.

(You're forgetting the Pixel Fold, Aaron!)

  • You can't really blame Google for keeping the best deals for their own devices I suppose

  • Not to bang on about the Pixel, but that's six months fewer than Pixel 9 Pro owners recieve.

  • Samsung's new phones will also come with a free six month subscription for Google's AI Pro plan.

  • Going to play devil's advocate and say that Pixel users can also do this without opening their phone, on account of their phones not opening.

  • Google is helping to support new Gemini features on Samsung's new foldables including Gemini Live, which can now use the phone's camera for object recognition. One cool thing is that there are also more commands you can use in Gemini Live that work across multiple apps like Samsung Notes.

  • Google's Rick Osterloh is talking about Gemini AI, Gemini Live and Circle To Search. Gemini Live, in particular, makes sense with the extra screens. Why not talk to your phone instead of opening it?

  • Google's Rick Osterloh at Samsung Unpacked.

  • Samsung is taking the fight to other increasingly thin foldables. Oppo's Find N5 appearedearlier this year. Unfortunately, it had nowhere near the reach of Samsung, and it's been pretty difficult to buy, even by importing.

  • Samsung has yet again deepened it's partnership with Google to helping bring stuff like Android 16 to the Z Fold 7 out of the box and wider support for AI features.

  • Naturally, now Samsung is talking about the power of AI as it pertains to multi-modality, which feels like a mandatory talking point in this day and age.

  • While talking about ambient AI experiences, Samsung is also giving us a look at a what's coming up next: There's a Z Flip with an edge-to-edge cover display and a new Galaxy Watch on screen.

  • Parker Burton just took to the stage to talk up... most the things we already heard about. But then we're moving to OneUI updates. Samsung is trying to better unify the look and feel across its mobile devices.

  • For the Z Fold 7, Samsung is really trying to make a phone that's the same size as a regular handset (and just as light), but just happens to have a huge flexible screen hiding inside.

  • The Z Fold 7 is getting a new 200MP main camera sensor.

  • Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 7 is thinner, lighter and has a larger 8-inch display

Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold7 has a thinner, lighter body and larger display

With the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Samsung is getting closer than ever to perfecting its folding smartphones. The new model is a substantial improvement over the Fold 6 with a much thinner, lighter design, larger and brighter display and an improved hinge design that reduces visible creasing to almost nothing. It's also more powerful and comes with a new wide-angle camera that finally matches up with the mainstream Galaxy S series.

Read more: Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 7 is thinner, lighter and has a larger 8-inch display

  • From first impressions this does seem like a huge leap forward in design for the Z Fold. It's the first time it actually looks like a regular phone when closed.

  • "Is it too slim?". No such thing, my friend. The Z Fold 7 has been optimized to fit the battery... which is the same size as last year's model. I suppose it's thinner, which is impressive.

  • As a three-time Samsung foldable owner, yes, that's us Mat.

  • Samsung is saying this is the thinnest Z Fold ever while including new adhesive and titanium layers for its flexible display.

  • This is so weird. Samsung is talking about taking on its users' opinions and thoughts. And what an attractive bunch of typical users! Is this the everyperson buying Samsung foldables?

  • A flashy video showed off the Z Fold 7's new very thin profile, which looks a lot the Galaxy S25 Edge, ending on the Z Fold 7 taking the place of New York's famous Flatiron building.

  • Samsung is talking a big game about this thing. The company is promising "breakthroughs without compromise."

  • There were some wild screams as Won-Joon Choi, the recently appointed COO of the mobile experience division, took the stage. I don't know why.

  • The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is here.

  • Sorry ya'll, getting a stable connection here is tough. But TM Roh is getting right into the action with the announcement of the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

  • "This is more than just a new Flip or Fold," says mobile head TM Roh.

  • Samsung mobile president and "acting head of device experience division" TM Roh has stepped onstage, and is welcoming the audience and giving us a brief history of the company's phones.

  • The Unpacked keynote has started, and after a quick flash of the usual legal disclaimers, Samsung is now showing us a video.

  • I feel like Fold and Flip owners have such different expectations. I mean a tri-fold sounds pretty rad but personally all I want is the option to pay a little more money for a Flip that has flagship cameras.

  • I agree with Sam. They also teased that next "Ultra" chapter. Will we see a Z Fold Ultra? It should be a trifold, in my opinion!

  • FWIW, this Unpacked event is at the Brooklyn Naval Yard, which is its own weird little corner of town that's kind of hidden away and hard to get into.

That said, there is a Wegman's right down the street, so maybe Samsung was expecting people to stop there first? (I kid.)

  • The rumor I'm most interested in is the possible appearance of Samsung's tri-fold phone. Info about it has swirling around for a while, but it's been somewhat unclear if Samsung actually has plans to release it in the US.

If we do see , I'm betting that it will be as a quick tease or a "one more thing" at the end of the presentation, similar to how they gave us a preview of the S25 Edge at the previous Unpacked event at the beginning of the year.

  • Do you all think maybe Samsung couldn't find any good catering because everyone is so busy shopping Amazon's Prime Day deals. Did you like how I casually referenced this massive shopping event in the middle of our liveblog? I just wanted to set the scene for those wondering what's going on outside of the Samsung world today and this week. (The Engadget homepage is a good indicator of what else is happening in the consumer tech world.)

  • Important snack update

A snippet of a screenshot of a Slack chat between Cherlynn Low and Mathew Smith at 9:34AM ET, with Low asking

  • Well hi there Sam! I too have a seat, but it's at my desk, at 6:45AM, in sunny Arizona. Looking forward to throwing the Galaxy Z Flip 6 I've used daily for the past year or so into that sun shortly.

  • Some rumors suggest that Samsung might be preparing to reveal a Galaxy S25 Fan Edition (FE), which would add yet another model to its S25 family. I'm not convinced we'll see that today, but if we did, that would be the fifth S25 phone to date. (Galaxy S25, S25+, S25 Ultra, S25 Edge

  • Hey y'all, I'm at Unpacked and I finally grabbed a seat and figured out the Wi-FI situation (hint: it's not good). But I'm still hyped because as a foldable phone enthusiast, it feels like were primed for some big updates to Samsung's lineup.

  • I guess I could talk about tech and Samsung for a bit. Like we mentioned earlier, this is the third Unpacked this year, with the most recent one being a quick, short pre-recorded video detailing the super thin Galaxy S25 Edge that was first teased at Unpacked in January. In his review, Sam found it delivered more than just a slim frame — it was a compelling alternative to the S25 Plus.

  • Sam told me there are no snacks at the Brooklyn event, just drinks. I am left with no choice but to go ask Mat about snacks. I know this is the dedicated journalism you are all here for.

  • The seating area in front of the stage at Samsung Galaxy Unpacked July 2025 in Brooklyn, with row of empty chairs near the side.

Looks like there's plenty of room for Sam at the event! So you have time to go look at the snack selection before finding a seat, right Sam?

  • A line of people standing in front of a large building with a banner on it showing the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked invitation image.

The view from the line to get into the Unpacked event in New York.

  • By the looks of the picture Mat shared below, it's looking like a stellar spot for an event! I've also heard Sam is in line at the main Unpacked venue in New York and waiting to get in. Don't worry, I will request pictures of snacks.

  • As it usually does, Samsung is also hosting satellite Unpacked events around the world, including one in London, where our UK bureau chief Mat Smith may has joined us from. Hi Mat!

  • Samsung Unpacked event 2025 in London, UK

  • Hi from the London satellite event. Samsung has wall-to-wall screens here. Picture to follow!

  • While we think we know all that Samsung has up its sleeve today, I can't help wondering if it might surprise us with something unexpected. There was a lot of talk a few weeks ago about a possible Galaxy Z Fold Ultra, possibly because of the company's use of the words "the next chapter of Ultra" in its teaser blog post in June.

  • Sam Rutherford might also drop in today to share pictures from the event in Brooklyn, and he's a dedicated foldable fan and to my knowledge currently uses the Pixel 9 Pro Fold as his primary device!

  • The other one of us just really likes using the Z Flip's external display and camera as a self-standing selfie camera.

  • Nobody asked but in case you were wondering, one of the two of us writing on this liveblog today use a flip-style foldable as their main phone every day.

  • I said this in the introduction of this post, but a massive last-minute leak yesterday pretty much told us everything we should expect to see today. Foldables! Thin foldables!

  • Hello! Welcome to our liveblog of yet another Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event. Today's presentation is scheduled to kick off at 10AM ET today, and you can watch the livestream via the video embedded above. If you prefer to follow along via words, you've come to the right place. I'll be joined by our editor in chief Aaron Souppouris today to keep you updated on all the news out of Unpacked today. We're so glad you're here with us!
