What we're watching: Monday Night Football -- on a Monday this time -- showcases the return of Carson Palmer and the Bengals after last season's torn ACL and season-ending loss to the Steelers as they face Brett Fav-ruh and the Packers. Prison Break and Vanished have their fall seasons off and running as they debut their second episodes, joining Saved and The Closer as Monday regulars. Our traditional high-def listings continue below.
HDTV Listings for August 17, 2006
What we're watching: More football, we'll get an early look at Larry Johnson running behind a revamped Chiefs offensive line against the Giants before our fantasy football drafts, remember even Reggie Bush thinks he should go #1. We've also got another lame duck episode of Windfall, while one of our favorite episodes of Discovery Channel's Blue Realm, The Giants of San Benedicto features great HD scenes of giant manta rays. Our traditional high definition listings continue below.
'Jeopardy!' and 'Wheel of Fortune' going high-def in September
Some shows are just made for high-def especially when you consider the $4 million King World Productions and Sony Pictures Television are spending to enhance the sets of Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune. The two game shows are in the midst of a massive makeover before they both launch in high-def on September 11. That $4 million went to widen the sets, add more color to make that HD just 'pop,' and replace the Jeopardy monitor wall with a seamless projection system. This will make 'em the first game shows to go high-def and now all we need is for the Price is Right to go high-def. No, we aren't thinking about Bob Barker's beauties, but what's better then Plinko in high-def?[Via TV Squad]
HDTV Listings for July 30, 2006
What we're watching: It's a summer Sunday you know the HD drill by now, network reruns, Deadwood followed by comedies on HBO, Brotherhood on Showtime, Mojo lineup on INHD. Still, we never miss a chance to check out Clint Eastwood as The Man With No Name so A Fistful of Dollars on HDNet is definitely worth a look. Our traditional high-def listings continue below.
HDTV Listings for July 19, 2006
What we're watching: Stephen King's Nightmares & Dreamscapes is back for the second of it's four-week run on TNT. Meanwhile ABC's The One: Making a Music Star apparently is in HD, even though their site does not list it that way, just like Kyle XY and unlike So You Think You Can Dance?. On ESPN the mighty Detroit Tigers face their division rival White Sox again while on Showtime you can check out Jet Li in Black Mask. Why doesn't ABC want to tell the world their shows are in high-def? There's no shame in that. Our traditional high-def listings continue below.
HDTV Listings for July 9, 2006
What we're watching: We've got the usual HBO shows for a Sunday night lineup but tonight you may want to flip over to Showtime for an all new show, Brotherhood. The basis for the story are two brothers, one a politician and one a career criminal living in a small Rhode Island community. If you need more convincing you can check out a review of tonight's episode on TV Squad (spoilers). Our traditional high-def listings continue below.
Nintendo ditches Tokyo Game Show? [Update 1]
Taking a quick glance at the list of attendees for September's Tokyo Game Show will show that Nintendo, for the second year in a row, will not have a significant showing of playable games. This is odd, considering that we're supposed to hear word on release and price for the Wii in that same month, and also with the strong amazing incredible immaculate showing that Nintendo had at E3 this year, why would they want to stop more people from getting their hands on it, especially on their home turf? Of course, the list is only final as of July 5th, so there is still time for Nintendo to hop on board, but it isn't a likely scenario that will play out.[Update: Clarified some of the post's wording. Iwata is likely to show up and give a speech -- there just won't be a giant Nintendo booth.]
HDTV Listings for July 3, 2006
What we're watching: Saved and The Closer check in to their usual Monday night positions, but also tonight is a Discovery HD Theater all new show, Best Ranger 2006. More than two dozen two-man Army Ranger teams competed for 60 straight hours to see who is the best. With events like an unknown-distance run blind weapons assembly/disassembly, this pretty much blows away the Olympics.Otherwise, ESPN brings us Atlanta vs. St. Louis in baseball, while HD DVD owners can check Constantine on Cinemax and compare quality. Our traditional high-def listings continue below.
HDTV Listings for June 23, 2006
What we're watching: Nothing on tonight that you haven't probably seen already. 24 is still about Jack Bauer slicing and dicing terrorists, Jennifer Love Hewitt is still talking to dead people on Ghost Whisperer, and models are still beating each other senseless on Perfect 10: Model Boxing.Yup, just your average Friday in the summertime. Our traditional high-def listings continue below.
HDTV Listings for June 22, 2006
What we're watching: Thursdays in the summertime are a dry HD night. ABC and Fox don't even make an effort, while CBS, UPN and WB only show reruns. There's another new episode of Windfall on, but not much else other than baseball, with games on ESPN and INHD.Looks like a night of Earl and The Office, we'll pull some day-old pizza out of the fridge to celebrate. Our traditional high-def listings continue below.
HDTV Listings for June 21, 2006
What we're watching: Whew. The NBA & NHL Finals both came down to exciting finishes, congratulations to all the teams involved. Unfortunately, that sort of cuts into the available HD programming tonight, but there still a few bright spots. MLB has prime time sports to itself now and takes advantage as the Mets and Reds go at it on ESPN. On INHD, their new Mojo lineup for men rolls on with two brand new series debuting tonight. Fueled should be a hit with gearheads checking out a Pontiac GTO being prepped for the 24 hours of Daytona; while After Hours with Daniel helps us get familiar with the sort of restaurants that don't put 15 pieces of flair on every server's outfit. On the oldie but goodie side, HBO's Sunday lineup is in for review, Entourage was a great episode. also on ABC are back to back episodes of Lost. Our traditional high-def listings continue below.
HDTV Listings for June 19, 2006
What we're watching: Edmonton has come all the way back from being down three games to one, and a deciding Game 7 of the NHL Stanley Cup Finals between the Oilers and the Carolina Hurricanes is at 8 p.m. on NBC. But that isn't the only great HD programming on tonight, TNT brings back new episodes of The Closer and Saved; while Discovery-HD's Rides takes us to the Lamborghini plant in Italy to see the Murcielago roadster being built. If that isn't enough, it's also Brat Pack night on INHD, with Ocean's Eleven followed by Robin and the 7 Hoods. Our traditional high-def listings continue below.
Video Games Live seats in Indy up for sale
Tickets are now on sale for the two Video Games Live shows planned in conjunction with Gen Con Indy Friday & Saturday, August 11-12.After a stop in Philly earlier this month, the VGL tour is moving on to Houston July 14th, Chicago August 5th, and then Indianapolis the weekend after that. More on reserving seats for the Hilbert Circle Theatre can be found on the official announcement page (via the pic to the right or the Read link below).Judging by the reviews of the Philly show so far, Video Games Live sounds like it could be a lot of fun. If they keep providing public access to Guitar Hero II, they may have sold this blogger on going already. We hope Midwestern gamers not attending the Chicago show can make a pitstop in Indy to keep Tommy's show on the road. So, yeah ... rock on.See also: Official VGL report from Philly (with some local links to boot) Video Games Live ticket purchases opened a bit early The official page for Gen Con Indy PS2 impressions: Guitar Hero II
HDTV Listings for June 13, 2006
What we're watching: The NBA Finals are definitely the highlight tonight, with Miami facing a must-win Game 3 at home against Dallas. We'll see if Shaq and Dwyane Wade are up to the task. Otherwise, there is baseball, a bunch of repeats, and The Skeleton Key at 9 p.m. on HBO followed by a repeat of the season premiere of Deadwood. Learn how to curse better, longer from the residents of the Old West. Our traditional high-def listings continue below.
HDTV Listings for June 11, 2006
What we're watching: While The 4400 season premiere is regrettably SD tonight, we will be checking out new beginnings for several series tonight. HBO has a great lineup with Deadwood, Entourage (now in HD), the series premiere of Lucky Louie and Dane Cook's Tourgasm. Couple that with Heat at Mavericks in Game 2 of the NBA finals on ABC and we have a very good night of high-def watching in front of us.Our traditional high-def listings continue below.
Nick Jr. debuts "mini pilots" on mobiles
Jumping on the mobile TV bandwagon, kid's channel Nick Jr. has debuted three new "mini pilots" on wireless carriers, ahead of launching them on Nick Jr.'s broadband video service and the channel itself. The three pilots include Pass the Pinha, Jinny Starfly and All Aboard, all developed by Nick Jr.'s Institute of Applied Play, and run between one to three minutes each. Unfortunately, Nick Jr. wasn't kind enough to say which carriers would actually be carrying the pilots.[Via MocoNews]
HDTV Listings for May 16, 2006
What we're watching: As NBA Playoff action continues, the Heat look to make it a short series vs. the Nets tonight, while the Suns and Clippers both look to take an edge in what has become a best-of-three series. The parade of finales continues with Boston Legal, NCIS, The Unit and Law & Order SVU taking a bow.Our traditional high-def listings continue below.
HDTV Listings for May 15, 2006 - Presidential Address update
What we're watching: Finales, finales, finales. Three hours of Grey's Anatomy tonight, two of them new. After last night's episode if you're a fan of the series this is a must-see. Prison Break completes its second season (it only feels like it's been on forever) with the long awaited escape, while How I Met Your Mother, One on One, All of Us and Half & Half wrap things up for the year as well. We were all "witnesses" to the Cavaliers surprising Game 3 victory over the pistons, but with a guaranSheed Pistons win tonight, there's not much sense in tuning in until Spurs-Mavericks at 10:30 p.m.After all that, I highly recommend Discovery Channel's documentary Shipbreakers if you haven't seen it already, and there's also some show called 24...Update: The re-air of last night's Grey's is apparently going to air after President Bush speaks, so you may want to put an extra hafl hour or hour on the DVR in case the finale does not start on time. Prison Break and 24 are both listed as being bumped 20 minutes, no word on the other networks. Also don't forget that Presidential Address' can often be a good opportunity to see the difference between the HD broadcast of each major network.[Thanks for the heads up James!] Our traditional high-def listings continue below.
HDTV Listings for May 12, 2006
What we're watching: No season finales here folks, the NBA Playoffs second round is not yet on elimination game status, while Close to Home, Las Vegas and Numbers continue their seasons as normal tonight. Numbers brings back bird flu as a topic, if Fatal Contact: Bird Flu in America didn't already scare that nasty air-breathing habit out of you.Our traditional high-def listings continue below.
HDTV Listings for May 11, 2006 - DVR ALERT
What we're watching: Just making sure everyone is aware, two of our high definition mainstays, My Name is Earl and The Office are doing things a bit differently tonight for their season finales. Instead of slotting a rerun in the place of the now-departed Four Kings, Will & Grace, Earl and Office will all be 40 minutes long, shifting the start time earlier by ten minutes for the latter two. Please adjust your DVRs -- and your lives -- accordingly. Also ending their season tonight are Smallville, Everybody Hates Chris, Love Inc., Eve and Cuts. Our traditional high-def listings continue below.
