First Look: Wild West Guns
We've been gushing over Gameloft's foray into iPhone game development for a while now, and it seems that the more good things we say about them, the better the iPhone games they make. Their latest game is no exception. Wild West Guns [iTunes link] brings gun fights and western themes right to your iPhone -- just draw your iPhone from its holster and tap to open this app. The game is composed of different levels ranging from saloons, stables, and a moving train (my favorite level). You tap on different objects (people, animals, tin cans, signs etc.) to shoot the gun; when you do, people will fall over in a realistically animated style. There are six different levels inside of 5 different difficulties (normal, hard, survivor, reload, and sniper) making for an extended life of the game. Probably the coolest thing in the game is that you aren't limited to only shooting the target at hand ... you can shoot pretty much anything in the background to earn points. My favorite scene was in a saloon where you were able to shoot the candle holders, windows, etc. to earn more points. Sometimes an enemy might grab you, and you have to shake your iPhone in order to break their grip. This makes for an interactive play experience that isn't found in most iPhone games.If you like apps that feature gunplay, then you'll no doubt find Wild West Guns entertaining and fun. If you do plan on playing this game in public, however, we suggest that you mute the volume or play with headphones. Wild West Guns is available from the iTunes App Store for $4.99US. %Gallery-46285%
VC Tuesday: Too Many Games Tuesday
We aren't sure if Nintendo of Japan operates like Nintendo of America, but if their website can actually be trusted to predict the VC and WiiWare releases for a given week, this week's crop of games is embarrassingly huge. Five Virtual Console games, only two of which are shooters (and one of which, Twinbee, is genuinely worth five hundred points, even if it is a not-so-great port of an arcade game), and three WiiWare games. Nintendo Channel video updates take a look at Madden NFL 09
We're excited about Madden NFL 09. Oh no, sports on a game blog, run! But, in all seriousness, this year's Madden NFL 09 looks like it's going to be a solid title and unique from the other versions available. Plus, the All-Play stuff looks fun. Retail and download releases for the week of August 4th

Wild West Guns fire onto WiiWare
The untamed wilderness that was the American west in the 19th Century was tough, mister. You never knew when a balloon with dynamite attached to it would float up from the ground and try to attack, not to mention the giant flying sheriff's badges. Purple kamikaze midgets were around every corner, and you couldn't walk 10 feet without getting sombreros thrown at you.Now, there's a game that captures the West, the real West in all its hat-tossing, purple-kamikaze-midget-having glory: Wild West Guns (Gameloft, 1-2 players, 1,000 Wii Points). Eat your hearts out, Carradines David and Keith. Eat them right out.
VC Friday: Yee-haw!
Light gun game Wild West Guns rides into town the European Wii Shop today for its worldwide debut, complete with Zapper compatibility, six levels, four-player support, and a whole host of mildly offensive steretypes. Truth be told, it looks quite fun in the post-break trailer -- certainly a lot more engaging than, say, Target Terror. Far more importantly, it gave us an excuse to post a Will Smith video. Wicky, wicky! Defend Your Castle has also finally arrived, and is totally worth a look. Wild West Guns: shoot guns at the Wild West
First seen as a mysterious title in the ESRB's database, new screens of Wild West Guns show the game to be ... pretty much exactly what we would have guessed: a Western-themed light gun game. Like Mad Dog McCree, but with less grainy video and more blocky polygons. The 1,000 Wii Point WiiWare game will support four players in cooperative and competitive modes, and will include Zapper compatibility (remember the Zapper?). It also supports feelings of guilt over the adversarial depiction of Native Americans, and rationalizations about such treatment being a staple of the Western genre. That will be somewhat less salient when Wild West Guns comes out in Japan on July 22. Maybe that's why Gameloft revealed it to the Japanese press first.
