Sony Vaio UX180P shipping to US
Although the SonyStyle site still lists it under pre-order, the Vaio UX180P non-UMPC is apparently already en route to ecstatic US customers, as at least two of our readers have received shipping confirmations from Sony via email. The Core Solo-powered machines are scheduled to arrive on the sixth of next month, which jibes with Sony's promise of a July release, but we're still a bit surprised that they're getting them out this early -- as you know, we've been burned by Sony a few times before.[Thanks, Lee and Leland B]

I would love to have one of these but, to be honest, I think I'm too old. I switched my Toshiba e800 into true VGA mode just to confirm my suspicions and after a few minutes of using it (that's 640x480 on a 4 inch screen) my eyes cried 'enough!' I can't image what 1024 x 600 is like on a 4.5 inch screen. Unfortunately there's no way I'll ever get to see one in the flesh, so maybe the Microsoft UMPC is the way to go.
I got one of these in for a review from the folks at Dynamism. It's a pretty cool device.
Guess I'll wait for the US release, I really like the UX90, it's sexy!
I'd go for a UMPC if they weren't so HUGE!
I would buy one if it was under $1000... I could never afford to get one of these for $1800. If they were able to reduce the price of these to a 1000 or less they would sell fast.
I'll be getting one, just going to the US to pick it up instead of importing because it's cheaper! The dynamism cost to import to the UK after VAT and shipping is about $1000 than the shop price, and for that I can go to the US and have a holiday as well!

The gadget is quite the head turner, but I hate Sony's patented overpricing for their products.
I think the public isn't ready for the whole Porta PC shenanigan.

although I haven't been able to trace fedex tracking number, sonystyle sent me an email stating that the ux180p has been shipped on 6/28 - early????

Sony is notorious for this but for the amount of things packed into this device (umm, optional 16GB flash? That's nuts!), I feel this thing is at a perfect price point. Any competitor is much more for much less.

I agree, but the rich need their toys i guess.
Just got a job at the SonyStyle store. The employee discount on this bad boy is good enough to pick up on day one. ;)
What's going on here? The first post is EXACTLY, WORD FOR WORD, a post I sent in for a previous article about the Sony. Me smells something fishy.
Anyway I still stand by what I said. I've just bought myself a UMPC and the screen size is excellent. Maybe a bit higher resolution would be good.
well it's true - received ux180p at 10:00 am this morning - now to read the manual
i'm a sony fanboy, and i use my PSP and clie UX daily and give anyone who talks about AOD a dirty look, but this device would be more attractive with Ev-DO from sprint(especially for sprint fanboys and girls), or maybe even no wireless WAN because the japanese version without that fugly antenna is nicer, and (gasp!) AMD under the hood. this device would be perfect for a turion, and if it was AMD-Powered, it would be my only portable computer i'd ever need.
wow, i just made three blatant displays of fanboyism towards AMD, sony and CDMA.
I received the UX180p today. First reaction: a lot of power in a very small device. The screen resolution is amazing, but the text on the screen is very, very small. I find I'm using the zoom constantly...
