Limited-edition Wisin & Yandel Zune
Microsoft has chosen Latin act Wisin & Yandel to grace the case of a limited edition Zune, but it's not by any means the first, as Reuters is reporting. Joining the Adult Swim, Halo 3, and various Pink limited edition Zunes, the Wisin & Yandel Zune will target the Latin market, hopping on the back of the duo's successful music career. Good luck to both parties, although we suspect the promotion may be a little limited in reach.

what I like about the zune is that there is so many special editions!
CUBSWILLWIN @ Oct 20th 2007 1:42PM
those people look like hitmen too. especially the one on the right
Diego @ Oct 20th 2007 1:52PM
A smart move by Zune to target more audiences. Where can we see the design?
Jim Charles @ Oct 20th 2007 1:56PM
Limited is right. I never heard of them.
CUBSWILLWIN @ Oct 20th 2007 2:00PM
read the article, their latin.
Jim Charles @ Oct 20th 2007 2:10PM
Doesn't change the fact that I haven't heard of them.
2shae @ Oct 20th 2007 2:16PM
They're in the "Burn it Up" video from R Kelly. And maybe you've heard of the song Rakata
Becky @ Oct 20th 2007 10:20PM
J.Lo and Ricky Martin are latin and everybody knows them.
By the way those guys Wizin and Yadel are two reggaeton singers. Reggaeton is a music only listened in puerto rico. It is very degradatory towards women and promotes drug use and violence. That's why these guys look like hitmen!
Indy aka Rex @ Oct 20th 2007 11:17PM
Except, not really. It's rap like any other rap, it's also not "only listened in Puerto Rico" as it's popular in most of South and Central America, Italy, Spain and even Russia.
And for the most part it hasn't been derogatory towards women since it became mainstream. Most of the songs tend to promote sex/sexuality and for the most part the recent stuff tends to be about women, but they're in no way derogatory towards them (albeit, the videos are... but then again, what rap video isn't nowadays), not drug use or violence.
I haven't heard a reggaeton song about killing or promoting violence in years. It's no different than rao, instead of NWA and Ice T's Cop Killer, you had Puerto Rican counterparts.
I don't even like Reggaeton, but at least I know better than to demonize it. I loathe modern rap and reggaeton and what they're doing to the under-20 population (seriously... Soulja Boy? What the fuck happened to rapping or SINGING? That shit is GIBBERISH!), but I'm not gonna up and demonize what are considered viable forms of music. No matter how bad some of the songs are... they're no different than modern pop/rock.
We've sunk to new lows in the last decade when it comes to music. We've gone from The Beatles, to Britney Spears and Fallout Boy... seriously america?
Student Driver @ Oct 22nd 2007 12:54PM
Yeah, with names like that I thought they were a well-tanned Jewish duo. Will they still perform at my Bar Mitzvah?
Wireless Buddy @ Oct 20th 2007 2:00PM
Why would they release a new Zune when the Zune 2.0 is going to get released soon?
wslcrew @ Oct 20th 2007 2:06PM
To clear out the inventory?
Wireless Buddy @ Oct 20th 2007 2:12PM
wslcrew: This is a new model. So they would have to start making it, not use existing inventory.
L.M.L.Y.P @ Oct 20th 2007 2:46PM
because, unlike apple, theyre not just removing zune 30, it will still be selling at $200....
So theyre not clearing inventory at all, because it will still be a major seller and a great DAP.
Adrian Williams @ Oct 20th 2007 8:29PM
Some people (general public) don't know that
Sam @ Oct 20th 2007 11:49PM
yes, because since its white, every other part of it uses a different "white zune" parts that microsoft is using all its resources on to create... All zunes use the same basic parts, regardless of color... they need to get rid of those parts, therefore they make these limited edition units to clear those out, dumbass.
Wireless Buddy @ Oct 20th 2007 2:02PM
It also looks just like a white Zune. If you ask me, if they keep releasing "Limited Edition" Zunes, that phrase is going to lose all meaning.
bugmat @ Oct 20th 2007 2:13PM
Incredible! Mickey & Minnie Mouse would've been more well known * received! *wonders who the heck works in MSFT's PR division*
P.S. my vote was for Bob Marley btw! Yu done know! ;)

Chuck Norris. 0_0
MARSHAK @ Oct 21st 2007 12:47AM
a chuck norris zune would give microsoft a roundhouse advantage over the ipod.
modenadude @ Oct 20th 2007 2:50PM
Engadget, shouldn't you have tilted that Zune? Zunes don't show photos nor videos in portrait! :)
riggs @ Oct 20th 2007 3:12PM
smh @ the ignorance of engadget members. start listening to more music you retards.
Argot @ Oct 21st 2007 8:06AM
I wouldn't call that latin crap music.
spyyder @ Oct 20th 2007 3:49PM
The entire Zune brand is limited edition. No one with an intelligent neuron in their head owns one. Zune owners are the same idiots who buy Ferarri brand laptops, Halo branded drinks, or Prada branded phones. People who don't care about function, and think they are cool for using a product no one else uses. We usually call them tools.
ssuk @ Oct 20th 2007 4:13PM
"People who don't care about function"
I dunno... When I buy an **portable music player**, I kind of want to to play music. If it plays games or views photos, it's a nice bonus... Not make or break a product. If you must insist on finding faults which aren't there, then you must be the most boring bastard anyone will ever meet.
jessy @ Oct 20th 2007 4:16PM
People who don't care about function, and think they are cool for using a product no one else uses
yea and owning an ipod just scream out im unique and think for my self with its extremely limited functionality.
Jeff @ Oct 20th 2007 4:19PM
"he entire Zune brand is limited edition. No one with an "intelligent neuron in their head owns one. Zune owners are the same idiots who buy Ferarri brand laptops, Halo branded drinks, or Prada branded phones"
Or Apple branded operating systems?
Way to show yourself as being a total jackass.
Tanner @ Oct 20th 2007 5:11PM
ssuk, If you want a player to play music well then why would you buy a zune? Does a zune even have gapless playback? (that is a serious question because I don't know for sure, although I haven't heard that it does). I beleive there are much better music players than a zune for just music. The zune is a me to device and should be treated as such. We can even take apple out of the picture and the zune is still a "me to device" The only reason microsoft is entering this market is because apple has had so much success. They didn't even design their first zune, it is a Toshiba gigabeat. They just want to enter another already successful market with good products and use their usual tactics to kill the competition. Apple will most likely survive, all of the little guys who have great products currently will most likeley be the ones who don't.
I think microsoft needs to focus on their software and operating systems and stop trying to enter every freakin market known to man. We have MSNBC, Zunes, XBoxes, IPTV, MSN, MSN Live and every other freaking microsoft product out there I think it is time for microsoft to actually fix their current software and quit trying to compete in every market imaginable.
spyyder @ Oct 20th 2007 5:59PM
Your poor attempts at refuting what I say is proof enough that what I say is true. Consumer whores. Staunchly defending an inferior product is the very definition of fanboy. Also notice I didn't mention anything about Apple, but somehow it's assumed that is what I meant. Go figure, eh. Most of you think you are make informed decisions about products you buy but you aren't. You feed your egos based on the things you consume, and the Zune feeds the ego of a tool. But keep on coming with the snarky comebacks, I love the smell of smug in the afternoon.
BigD @ Oct 21st 2007 7:31AM
I'm not a brain surgeon or anything, but I was under the impression that neurons carried electric impulses (or some sh*t like that). I didn't know that neurons could be intelligent.
I, for one, do not welcome the arrival of our intelligent neuron overlords.
As to the assertion you attempted to make, that no intelligent person owns one....c'mon.
I'm sure Bill Gates has one, and in a vote, open to all sentient creatures of Earth and the great beyond, I'm sure that most people would consider Bill Gates to be an intelligent person.
snitch @ Oct 20th 2007 3:51PM
what a desparate move lol, #1 reason i wont buy a zune anymore is that Microsoft is a Software company not hardware and no matter how good they try it will always have problems beyond there control, one example is the Xbox 360, a reaaly good gaming platform, but when it gets to Hardware its realy can get any worse, thats why people wonder why can microsoft adress issues as soon as apple can, your answer is apple builds software and hardware, and are able to adrees issues quickly. thats why when you call Msft with a error code most of the time like 90% of it they dont know what the heck your talking about because they can only adress software and most of the time these codes indicate hardware failare
ssuk @ Oct 20th 2007 4:15PM
So lemme guess, you have an iPod. Well, not bias at all, are we?
hurricane @ Oct 20th 2007 4:32PM
The main issue I have with my Zune isn't the hardware at all, it's the software on the computer that needs a makeover...
The Zune seems to work great for what it was intended to do (listen to music, watch movies, and view pictures).
Snitch @ Oct 20th 2007 6:33PM
no i dont have and ipod i have a zune and i have been waiting for a firmware update for almost a year now, and i just hope that the upcoming one its not worse than what i have now, my wife got the ipod nano and although it was buggy as hell when she got it its running really strong now within weeks and i been waiting almost a year like an ass
Will @ Oct 20th 2007 4:28PM
Here's the link on walmart.com, the picture with the design is there.

Yubastard @ Oct 20th 2007 5:05PM
the design looks slick, black and all, but having their names on it really sucks... I'm from PR, but I think reggaeton sucks. My bad.
CUBSWILLWIN @ Oct 21st 2007 8:05PM
the wisin and yandel logo on the back of the zune looks like it came out of transformers
DeoWulf @ Oct 20th 2007 6:06PM
C'mon Zune, seriously. How many special editions are you going to release in a month?
Oh well, I second what someone else up there said: Zune 30 will not be abandoned or outmoded. They will keep selling them until probably the '3rd' generation (ie next generation). That's just how MS does it. I mean, they only recently dropped Windows 98 support on their website.
As far as functionality goes, why don't you guys actually think about what you're saying. The only thing comparable iPods have over Zunes (Zune80-Ipod80, etc) is CoverFlow. ZOMG! Zune's got Wifi and radio, plus larger screen and soon to come- Social Networking built in, as well as ZuneCards.
suv4x4 @ Oct 20th 2007 7:19PM
I totally think they need to make a special edition with that amateur teen band that sings in the local club sometimes. I forgot the name.
ChongO @ Oct 20th 2007 7:01PM
This is a joke, Those guy have good music but come on...not that good... plus they are RUDE little punks that think they are deserving of everything! Having dealt with them. I'm against them getting a zune... this will ruin ZUNE!
Luis @ Oct 20th 2007 8:07PM
Those guys are terrible. Reggaton is one of the worst forms on music. How anyone can stand it, is beyond me.
MrWhite @ Oct 20th 2007 10:05PM
Up next, the Millie Vanilli Edition. This is lame. :|
Becky @ Oct 20th 2007 10:26PM
At least Millie Vanilli is more popular that the these two loosers, Wizcozin and Yandel or wathever they are called.
