Dell Vostro 1200 notebook coming this month?
Despite the fact that the esteemed Mr. Mossberg doesn't seem to care for it too much, Les Delliens has it on good authority that Dell will be upgrading its line of Vostro small business systems this month, in the form of the 1200 laptop. Specs are not yet available to accompany the above pic, but we can assume from the model number that this will likely be an upgrade to the Vostro 1000, a low-end, AMD-powered 12.1-incher. In other Dell news -- well, other other news, really -- the same Les Delliens forum member has confirmed specs and images of the upcoming Inspiron 1525 / 1526 (pictured after the break), a 15.4-inch notebook rocking any number of CPU options from AMD or Intel and said to launching in Europe on December 14th -- four days before the rumored Vostro announcement.

Another stinky Dell (with Vista). Who cares?
Khris @ Dec 4th 2007 10:51AM
I'm willing to bet a lot of more important people than you!
JohnTitor @ Dec 4th 2007 3:00PM
cause Dell rocks again, at least Vostro anyway, they are the same as Inspiron for hundreds less
Derek @ Dec 4th 2007 10:21AM
Another Dell with a bunch of numbered lines sticking out. What an ugly design.
rob @ Dec 4th 2007 10:46AM
Mossberg is an old fart with no credibility so quit mentioning his name every time.
BCre8v @ Dec 4th 2007 12:04PM
Mossberg? No credibility? I am sorry, but he's writing for the WSJ... and the rest of us for a blog :-).
As far as the laptop, so what? Dell is a volume producer and caters well to this niche. Peple continue to buy from Dell. Staples and Walmart have partnerships with Dell.
Please folks, if you're gonna badmouth or reject something, at least provide context around your opinion. Maybe we can all get a little smarter or more aware together.
Now, please tell me why Dell computers stink.
geognerd @ Dec 4th 2007 5:42PM
I used to respect Mossberg...now I put him in the same category as John Dvorak. Full of hot air, past his prime, and living off his name.
JohnPQ @ Dec 4th 2007 10:51AM
Puck Mr. Mossberg. If Apple made this, it would cost $2000.
Klink258 @ Dec 4th 2007 11:17AM
I thought that it was a Macbook until I saw the dell logo.
Hotwings @ Dec 4th 2007 11:57AM
Eww, looks like a disgusting black copy of a MacBook with a wallpaper that imitates Tiger. Everyone seems to want to copy Apple these days.
Joey Geraci @ Dec 4th 2007 12:52PM
Uhm, how exactly is it copying Apple? Because it is plain, cheap, poorly made black notebook?!!? You can't be serious!
Now that I think about it, they do have a lot in common.
Hotwings @ Dec 4th 2007 3:15PM
I meant copy of a black MacBook, not black copy of one, if that makes things a bit clearer.
I mean really, have you taken a look at the new LG voyager from Verizon? And now everyone's just trying to roll out all in one PC's like GateWay and the Dell XPS one and the new Sony Vaio, just to compete with the new iMac. I'm sick of copies, as if all those fake Asian (cough, made in China, cough) items aren't enough.
ark_v2 @ Dec 4th 2007 3:28PM
Em...you know japanese have been using all-in-one form factor for decades, don't you? and that the first PCs in America where all-in-one too, right?
Hotwings @ Dec 5th 2007 11:34AM
Ark_v2 >
Em...you do know that's not the point right? FYI, I already knew that anyway.
Sandeep @ Dec 4th 2007 12:51PM
According to the Dell website, the Vostro 1000 is not a 12.1" laptop but instead a 15.4" laptop.
What gives, Engadget?
Khris @ Dec 4th 2007 4:18PM
Perhaps you should brush up on your comprehension skills.
The Vostro 1000 is in fact a 15.4" laptop.....
.....however the VOSTRO 1200 (as the title of this article clearly states), is a 12.1".
jdang @ Dec 4th 2007 4:28PM
"Specs are not yet available to accompany the above pic, but we can assume from the model number that this will likely be an upgrade to the Vostro 1000, a low-end, AMD-powered 12.1-incher"
The way it is written, it seems to state the Vostro 1000 is a low end AMD powered 12.1" which it obviously isn't. If the writer meant to say the 1200 will be a low end AMD powered 12.1" and be an upgrade to the Vostro 1000, well he should have said so ;)
Sandeep @ Dec 4th 2007 4:28PM

That sentence is hardly clear about which laptop it's referring to. I didn't read the link at first (I hate translated links) but this hardly 'duh' obvious.

Just another ugly Dell.
strider_mt2k @ Dec 4th 2007 1:52PM
Looks remarkably like my Dell B130.
Bummer.
Hotwings @ Dec 4th 2007 3:19PM
By the way JohnPQ > You said that if Apple made this it would cost $2,000.
> If Apple made this it would be worth $2,000. And they make something better anyway, plus it costs much less, digg a black MacBook?
Alberto Torres @ Dec 4th 2007 4:06PM
This is great. I bought a Vostro 1500 for myself a month back and I love it. My father is looking for a smaller laptop to replace his aged Toshiba tablet. He never uses the tablet feature and bought it for the novelty so this could be a decent replacement. For hundreds less than normal Inspirons.
h hsiung @ Dec 14th 2007 4:08AM
I'd be more interested if there was an estimated price for the vostro 1200. Then we could compare it with Acer's 12" TravelMate and Lenovo's 3000 12" notebooks.
