Dell gets "official" with colorful Studio 15 and Studio 17 laptop lines
Not like Dell's done an exceptional job keeping this one a secret, but yes, the Studio 15 and Studio 17 laptops do seem to be more than a figment of someone's imagination -- at least, according to a believable release posted up at BetaNews, which has since been pulled. Predictably, the former line features a 15-inch panel while the latter steps up to 17-inches, and both crews will be offered in a smattering of hues including black, grey, blue, green, pink, orange, purple and red. Prices on these units are set to start at $799, while you'll find Intel's Core 2 Duo alongside up to 4GB of RAM, upwards of 320GB of HDD space, an 8-in-1 multicard reader, 802.11b/g WiFi, Bluetooth, gigabit Ethernet, an optional Blu-ray drive and the usual assortment of ports. Folks looking to stay connected around the clock can opt for a Sprint / Verizon WWAN card, and there's also an optional 9-cell battery if the standard 6-cell just isn't longevous enough. Check out two more shots after the break, and the original page (in three parts) in the gallery below.

@Adrian,
Quote: "You hate Apple, but you own a Mac, that makes a lot of sense."
I will explain it like this...
You have to get married to experience divorce, you have to experience divorce to experience 'Hate".
However, you are the one who used to words "Hate Apple", not me.
I hate it when I stubb my toe. I hate it when the frickin pwoer cord keeps on coming out the back of the PC.
I don't even hate Mugabe. I dislike Margaret Thatcher a lot. I really don't care for Bush. I don't trust McCain. But I hate no one. Truly.
No 802.11n? Awww.
These notebooks will be released on Thursday June 26th 2008.
Its now 26th June and no Studio laptops, tsk tsk DelllnSide, ur info seems somewhat wrong
What happened to the back lit keyboard? and the mac style keys? and the 14inch version...seriously now...wtf? I wait and wait and wait and in the end they puss out and come out with the same ugly crap.
If I read the press release correctly it's "up to" not "upwards of" 320GB of HDD.
it's funny actually, all the Apple lovers out there can only say "what, no OS X?" whereas, Apple, as usual, is being killed on the hardware front. Believe me, Vista is half way decent. I have not found any real problem with Vista other then driver issues, but that was fixed with the latest drivers. And honestly, who wants to spend more money than they have to?
no, not all apple lovers say that.
i prefer OSX, and i hate those posters as much as you.
pc users have the fanatics too.
"oh, its an apple, must suck."
theres ignorance on both sides.
and for all the idiots saying OSX cant handle hardware...
do you honestly even know what youre talking about?
mac pros arent exactly hardware lacking.
and mac servers?
and people seem top forget OSX is unix with a visual cap.
but how often does unix get bashed?
hating something simply because it is a trend
doesnt exactly scream intelligence.
I should think they are official - the last computer mag I picked up (UK) had a double-page Dell ad in the front cover, with one of the pages devoted to the Studio line. No prices or specs, but the name and photos like those on this website.
So you can view them on Dell's site but you are unable to build one still. Hopefully that will be fixed by today.
Hi everyone. I have worked for Dell India and have taken many calls for the UK consumers. I think they are very polite people and they don't mind speaking with people in India. From what I hear the Americans are as friendly and polite, if not friendlier. I don't see what the problem is.
As far as the language gap goes, yes it can be a bit annoying but then Americans don't have to pay a cent for calling Dell Tech. The English don't seem to mind, atleast 85% don't mind and Dell is always trying to train their techs on accents so eventually the customer is happy.
However, I must admit that language can be considered as quite a barrier because there were times people wouldn't understand me even though we managed to give them a speedy solution.
So it is not always a case of your problem being resolved in quick time. Sometimes they would just like to speak with people who speak good english rather than someone who's in india who's just sitting back taking calls.
I feel Dell needs to change the process of renumeration a tad bit.
About XPS support being non-indian - I don't think the statement is entirely untrue. However, the emailing bit is handled by Indians. I don't work for Dell anymore but they're a great, great company and they truly care for their consumers without a single doubt in my mind.
I also feel not a lot of people from ireland, england and america can actually do this job with basic skill and training. So if the common man cannot do the thing, they have to PAY MORE for experts who are willing to sit for hours and hours. It is much cheaper for Dell to start this in our country. I think it costs them 30% as much and reaps only more and more benefits in the long run.
The occasional disgruntled customer has nowhere to go though so it's the best and worst of both worlds, I guess.
SIDENOTE : To Dell, Im sorry if I have given away too much info.
