Dell Studio XPS 13 and 16 leak out, due in November?
We sort of figured Dell's Studio branding would come to the XPS line sooner or later -- the family resemblance between the Studio laptops and the XPS m1330 and m1530 is hard to ignore, after all -- and it looks like we don't have much longer to wait, if you believe these slides discovered by Jayson in the NotebookReview forums. The Studio XPS 13 and 16, due in November, will be Intel Centrino 2-based machines with hybrid SLI support, slot-loading Blu-ray drives, edge-to-edge glass displays with optional LED backlighting, backlit keyboards, and WiMAX and UWB support. We're digging the funky woodgrain on the Studio XPS 16, but it'll be interesting to see how much these cost if and when they hit -- the Studio line was supposed to sit in between the Inspiron and XPS lines, so we're hoping these'll also come in below the current XPS price tags. Check the other four slides, including the Studio XPS 13, after the break.

Agree! :P*

Apparently the XPS division isn't working under Alienware's umbrella now? Whatever happened to the whole "XPS is EOL" thing we talked about just so shortly ago?
And no update for the XPS M1730? Whatever happened to the prospect of upgradeable 9XXX series graphics? Or are they still trying to peddle the 3-generation-old 8800 series as an upgrade to us?

RGB LED Display .. Holy Jeebus Crust! .. that's got to be a first
Knives_Out @ Aug 27th 2008 1:18AM
dunno .. this looks pretty fake. some shoddy graphic design work here.
Techie @ Aug 27th 2008 7:36AM
SLi, something tells me this thing is going to be huge.
Tpat @ Aug 27th 2008 10:19AM
Yeah it looks pretty sleezy...Im pretty sure they wouldnt put text on top of their own logo ie. the last slide...but then again..who would have the time to make a powerpoint for this?
cesium @ Aug 26th 2008 5:23PM
the studio xps 13 looks sweeet
rv @ Aug 26th 2008 8:10PM
Indeed. The floating screen is so hot man.
JJV @ Aug 26th 2008 5:24PM
The networking over the Dell logo wouldnt be right. Not in a professional presentation.
ScOObyDoo @ Aug 26th 2008 5:43PM
Could just be a Powerpoint glitch or a missing font.
Anonymoose @ Aug 26th 2008 5:25PM
ultimate entertainment notebook, eh? so i am safe in assuming that it comes equipped with puppies, glitter, and lasers, correct? and maybe some bubble wrap and big league chew. and little people riding bigger people riding unicycles.
oh yeah, and that edge to edge glass is sweet. it took as long to put this feature on a laptop as it took palm to come out with a non-recessed touch screen.
phanbouy @ Aug 26th 2008 7:39PM
i'm not sure those bigger people enjoy being rode. unless they're into that kinda thing...
Anonymoose @ Aug 26th 2008 7:42PM
if you're shaped like a beast of burden, then, well, i think you just need to play the role.
phanbouy @ Aug 26th 2008 7:51PM
so that's why Mick can't get no satisfaction...
Anonymoose @ Aug 26th 2008 8:04PM
you and your pop culture. if you love it so much, why don't you marry it. or why don't you go and take it behind a middle school and get it pregnant.
devind5 @ Aug 26th 2008 5:30PM
Which is it, Studio XPS 15 or 16???
Nate @ Aug 26th 2008 5:33PM
I was thinking the same thing, but you beat me to the punch.
JohnTitor @ Aug 26th 2008 10:27PM
pretty awful slides
not just the typo but all those while boxes
and the XPS logo seems like its sticking lower than it should
hope the dude that made this doesn't get paid more than me
maveric101 @ Aug 26th 2008 11:56PM
its tough. i like the hybrid SLI of the 16, but don't like the 16:9 aspect ratio. personally i think 16:9 is ridiculous for computing purposes.
Nate @ Aug 26th 2008 5:32PM
Why do you guys say there will be a Studio XPS 16, when it says, right on the slide, that it's a Studio XPS 15?
Is this only a typo, or do you guys know something that we don't?
Vivek @ Aug 26th 2008 5:36PM
It looks like Dell made a typo on one of the slides. The slide which has all the laptops listed says Studio XPS 15 while the main slide says Studio XPS 16 and goes on to describe a 16:9 screen. So, as long as these slides are legit, looks like there will be a Studio XPS 16.
JViz @ Aug 26th 2008 9:21PM
Maybe it's not glass, but a glass like substance?
Shabbis @ Aug 26th 2008 5:37PM
A glass display on a laptop? Wouldn't that add quite a bit of weight defeating the purpose of a laptop?
waiownsyou @ Aug 26th 2008 6:32PM
Not to mention fragility!
Peter J @ Aug 26th 2008 5:38PM
This not look fake to anyone else?
Tim_925 @ Aug 26th 2008 5:38PM
Where is the dell netbook!@! Ahhhhh!
George M. @ Aug 26th 2008 5:41PM
Dude Nate,
The Studio 16 hasa 16:9 ratio screen bro. Laters
phanbouy @ Aug 26th 2008 6:09PM
werd, coz
Gardengnome @ Aug 26th 2008 5:43PM
Totally fake.
Samboini @ Aug 26th 2008 5:53PM
Like yo momma's rack then.
djpurpose @ Aug 26th 2008 6:10PM
I agree 100%. The whole presentation is in black but they use images with white backgrounds. I'm a designer and I would never let anything that looked this hideous go out to a customer. I'm guessing dell of all people would have black versions of the inspiron and XPS logo. If this came from Dell then I would like to apply as a graphic designer.
Morgan @ Aug 26th 2008 6:53PM
I don't know if the slides are real or not but the details within are as I have discussed the Studio 13 October release dates with my account manager at Dell recently.
Huy @ Aug 26th 2008 6:57PM
Makes very little sense to me from a business standpoint. Why would you overlap your mediocre line with your premium line to create a semi-premium notebook?
matt2002 @ Aug 26th 2008 8:52PM
I hope it is fake. I just ordered an XPS 1530 for 1300 yesterday and if they came out with a new one a month later ill be more than a little pissed
Chez @ Aug 26th 2008 5:45PM
Ah man i absolutely love my xps m1330 and these new studio xps notebooks sound great, i am a little jealous right now.
Knives_Out @ Aug 26th 2008 5:47PM
hybrid sli? what's that?
kukawaki @ Aug 26th 2008 6:52PM
Ever heard of Google? Right...
Dr Zoidberg @ Aug 26th 2008 5:49PM
So does it go: Inspiron --> studio --> studio xps --> xps --> xps gaming ?
buckerss @ Aug 26th 2008 9:24PM
yes
is it just me or is the product heirarchy a little confusing
Here @ Aug 26th 2008 5:51PM
What a farce !!
If Dell can make this, I chop my head to make a chair for you.
Go to HELL DELL.
Jon Doe. @ Aug 26th 2008 6:52PM
Why would I want to sit in shit?
MICHAELSD @ Aug 26th 2008 5:55PM
From the guy who leaked it:
"From November the Studio XPS 13, 15, 16 will be replacing the XPS 1330, 1530 and 1730. Note 16" 16:9 is the new trend to replace 17" 16:10. although available xps lineups will be equiped with montevina in september."
Those pictures look a little fake to me. BTW, hybrid SLI lets you switch to an integrated video card from a discrete one to save battery life when you aren't running graphic-intensive programs or games.
Michael @ Aug 26th 2008 6:02PM
Looks like they just grabbed an image and used the power point transparency thingy to give it a horrible look on the first slide, they should have just left the white background in.
phanbouy @ Aug 26th 2008 6:03PM
cool, they upgraded an Atari 7800
msalivar @ Aug 26th 2008 6:13PM
Nah, the Atari was prettier.
I can't believe how ugly these things are.
phanbouy @ Aug 26th 2008 6:17PM
well check that anyway, i meant Atari 5200
Jevanzz @ Aug 26th 2008 7:10PM
Your Murray avatar is full of win. :)
TimB @ Aug 26th 2008 6:16PM
@MICHAELSD
Hybrid SLI isn't just the whole Sony dual-gpu that switches to save power. The real kicker is that it uses both the integrated and discrete GPUs together to improve performance as well as switching to integrated graphics when it's not needed.
bertross @ Aug 26th 2008 6:30PM
Wait. The roadmap has Studio XPS 15 while the promotional slide is Studio XPS 16...
