Dell Studio XPS 13 and 16 leak out, due in November?
We sort of figured Dell's Studio branding would come to the XPS line sooner or later -- the family resemblance between the Studio laptops and the XPS m1330 and m1530 is hard to ignore, after all -- and it looks like we don't have much longer to wait, if you believe these slides discovered by Jayson in the NotebookReview forums. The Studio XPS 13 and 16, due in November, will be Intel Centrino 2-based machines with hybrid SLI support, slot-loading Blu-ray drives, edge-to-edge glass displays with optional LED backlighting, backlit keyboards, and WiMAX and UWB support. We're digging the funky woodgrain on the Studio XPS 16, but it'll be interesting to see how much these cost if and when they hit -- the Studio line was supposed to sit in between the Inspiron and XPS lines, so we're hoping these'll also come in below the current XPS price tags. Check the other four slides, including the Studio XPS 13, after the break.

"the monitor is already getting fucked up"
they start young these days. have you tried an intervention?
@Phan: There's a patch for it..ever seen those joggers with mp3 strapped to their arm? Nicabait for technophiles.
If you bought a studio 15/17 its your video card the 256MB ATi, ummm, well, just get it looked at you'll be fine...
From the guy who leaked it:
"From November the Studio XPS 13, 15, 16 will be replacing the XPS 1330, 1530 and 1730. Note 16" 16:9 is the new trend to replace 17" 16:10. although available xps lineups will be equiped with montevina in september."
Those pictures look a little fake to me. BTW, hybrid SLI lets you switch to an integrated video card from a discrete one to save battery life when you aren't running graphic-intensive programs or games.
cool, they upgraded an Atari 7800
Nah, the Atari was prettier.
I can't believe how ugly these things are.
well check that anyway, i meant Atari 5200
Your Murray avatar is full of win. :)
@MICHAELSD
Hybrid SLI isn't just the whole Sony dual-gpu that switches to save power. The real kicker is that it uses both the integrated and discrete GPUs together to improve performance as well as switching to integrated graphics when it's not needed.
Wait. The roadmap has Studio XPS 15 while the promotional slide is Studio XPS 16...
These things are definitely replacements to the current XPS line, but man o man are they going to be expensive when they come out. Each one of those standard options adds a decent chunk of change onto the final price. I imagine each will baseline at 2,000-2,500 easily.
Nowhere does it say that those are standard genius
Is that an authentic wood grain panel I see?
Typing this on my Dell Studio 15 - best laptop I have ever used !
With as skeptical as Engadget usually is about product images and information... I'm surprised they seem so sold on this strange set of slides.
can't wait for the xps1330 sales to get even better. i don't know what it is, but these look and seem completely unappealing. I'll take the 1330.
Fake.
Colours?
This does not appear to be fake. I used to work for Dell and this is the format the use for thier Powerpoints. All the powerpoints I ever saw looked exactly the same. They were talking about a new 16" laptop with a 16x9 aspect ratio back in Jan. Plus Dell will "leak" these sort of things to drive internet buzz. Part of thier new marketing strategy. It has worked well for them.
What? The current XPS line look way better. Just wish they put a backlit keyboard on the XPS.
Maybe they will look good in person, but I don't understand why would they make the bottom part of the lid that way. Might look cool if they did the entire lid, but not really digging this design. Sorry Dell. Hopefully they'll do a better job on the inspiron XPS.
Terrible terrible layout. I'm a graphic designer and that's gotta be one of the worst layout & composition have ever seen! I don't even need to get into specifics as many of you already see how bad the layout is. As excited as I am for a new XPS laptop, this one just look so obviously fake. If for some strange reason that this is a real dell advertisement layout, then I need to start sending my design portfolio to Dell so I can take over their graphic design department, coz that layout is TERRIBLE and whoever designed that must be fired!
Who cares?
Like we need more Dells in the world...
WTF is a Studio XPS??? Wouldn't that be like calling an Apple notebook a MacBook Pro Air? Or making an iMac Pro Mini??? I thought there was the Inspiron line, the Studio line, and the XPS line (similar to MBA, macbooks, and MBPs). Apparently I was very mistaken, or this ad is fake.
If they do this will fun Ubuntu support it would be great.
This will definitely compete with the Sony Vaio Z if it can come close to the specs. The "fit and finish" is where we'll see if Dell pulls it off. I'm thinking the will go for 1600 on the Studio XPS 13. If it can get the 9 hrs battery life, I'll put down my CC. Let's hope they don't mess up the shipping and building like they did on the XPS 1330!
Oh God, here we go again with a rumored released date. With the great job that Dell did with hitting the 3 rumored released dates for their Netbook I won't be holding my breath..
Pretty confusing choice in name, but hey, the notebook look badass; i might be game.
Hot damn - fake wood panelling! After that all I'll need is the car from 'The Muppet Movie' and I'll be set.
Blargh. Another new Studio laptop? This makes me glad I'm continuing to wait on purchasing new Dell laptop until after the new year.
Why is Dell so late coming on the Centrino 2 game?
Any updates on the Studio XPS 13 yet?
November is close!
Possible 15th November release!!!
End of line noted (I can't find it now) on the Dell website for the M1530, as per the roadmap in these slides for the 15th of November. That's only ten days away, date fans!
I love how many people are saying this is fake in the comments, but if they bothered to sit down, have a good look around they'd realise that it really wasn't. The whole "It's shit graphic design" thing is a bad argument - because if there's one thing fakers do, it's go to enormous lengths in order to hide the fact that it's a fake -- they wouldn't be this blatantly shite.
Myself, I'm pretty excited about these. I've been in the market for a new laptop for a long while - Studio 15 was going to get my business but I was holding off to see what these have to offer. I don't know if I dig the wooden but, but it's a Dell so it'll inevitably have about a million colour options.
Its november 15 today, and nothing has been released :(
new slides are out regarding this!! it shows it will come out in jan!!!! (from notebook reviews)
