i agree. i won't be in any hurry to buy one if they do look like this. i am pretty sure they will all end up looking like the imac and macbook air. shame. i hate multi-colored computers.
I understand what you're saying, but aesthetics have always been important part of Apple's designs.
This, on the other hand, is a tawdry abomination and it makes my current MBP and even the ThinkPad tablet look handsome. It looks more cheap than the worst of the Vista laptops from HP.
@CraigJ - I wouldn't take it too personal. Rod seems like the kind of person who needs something for everything--like buttons to click mice, or turn things on, or open doors. Hell, he's probably upset his toilet didn't come with a button to wipe his ass.
@Ron - Who are you kidding here buddy? If you don't like the laptop, don't look at it, or buy it, or get your blood pressure worked up about it. It's not like someone forces you everyday into a room with this thing for hours on end (either way, heaven forbid right?). But of course we all know the real reason you come here to complain about something COMPLETELY out of your power is because the anonymity of a tech blog masks the fact that you're completely powerless to care in real life. If you think you could design and make a better laptop and sell it to a wider consumer base, then fuck, go for it! Take a 3D design class, learn about electrical engineering, take a computer programming class, or maybe even business (this one is a plus!). Put something into production and then see if it shows up on Engadget. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT instead of putting down someone else for liking it because your inhibition only reaches as far as a tech blog.
@Rod - Maybe if Apple wasn't do so insanely well right now everything you said would make sense. I mean you guys have been making the people-just-buy-them-for-a-statement argument for a looong time right? Maybe if this was like their 5th year in existence you could keep pushing it but come on man.. They're obviously a successful company and a lot of people would be faking a lot of interest for absolutely no reason for a looong time now. I'm sure if they're products were as bad as you're implying the hype wouldn't still be so strong before EVERY SINGLE PRODUCT THEY RELEASE. You need to have SOME substance behind it regardless of how well you push it (Segway) or people will forget about it and move on to the next flavor of the week. Maybe for some people with certain requirements and expectations in a computer they really are superior? Maybe some people just prefer them? Do you roll the window down at every stoplight in your Ford and get mad at the guy next to you if it looks like he's enjoying his GM? Do you get pissed when you see someone wearing different kinds of clothes? Just shut the fuck up already.
It doesn't help that you're passing judgment on something based off of two cell phone pictures. You'd hate it if it cured cancer just because it had an Apple logo on it, just admit it.
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
EWW, i dont like the new keyboard...
black keys do not go well with the aluminum... Ill hang into my 15'' MBP i have now :)
I second that
That's funny, I thought specs and price might have something to do with it. Is this a computer or a fashion statement?
I'm currently in need of a laptop. It might be one of these if the price isn't horrible. I could care less what color the keyboard is.

Black goes great with aluminum.
Careful, you risk making the "Apple fan" persona worse!
You mean the old keyboard? (Look a the Macbook Air)
new keyboard? it practically looks identical to the Air's.

@ Eddie
