The
connected PND, by most accounts, is a
dying breed. Dash couldn't
pull it off, TomTom's execution was downright
pathetic and no one even remembers that Insignia
made one. But considering that Garmin's nüvi range has always delivered, we're going to let the nüvi 1690 ship before passing judgment. Said navigator, which just
slipped into the FCC's database a fortnight ago, didn't have too many details attached to it, but a recently discovered user manual reveals that although Garmin's local-data service will be powered by Google, the company has branded it with the virtually-unpronounceable name "nuinfo." Yeah, we have no idea, but we're definitely interested in finding out what the ultimate plan is -- the shots of the device in the manual lead us to believe that local weather information will be on tap in addition to the usual waypoint searching and so forth, but unless Garmin throws these so-called "connected services" in gratis, every smartphone owner on the planet will simply laugh and move on.

This article is mine! >:3
Look's like an average GPS though..
I would pronounce it new-info. Seems pretty easy to pronounce to me.
Yup. If nüvi is pronounced "new-vee" (and not nuh-vee), then "nuinfo" should be pronounced "new-info". See? It's a play on "new information" because you're getting "new information" through the magic airwaves. That wasn't too hard now was it?
DOWN WITH MONTHLY FEES.
"Garmin's local-data service will by powered by Google,"
be powered, you mean?
This thing will definitely have a monthly fee..or it will be priced like the Kindle, very very high.
Hallo Garmin.
Please take removable batteries seriously in your car GPS products, particularly the entry-level line-up. There is no good reason to limit the (mobile) life of your devices to the limited charges of the battery. Looking forward to better designs and more logical 'green' use of resources in future products. I'm sure you'll want us using your products for as long as possible rather than seeing them go to landfill after a few short years (or being attached to external power constantly).

Question: Can I replace the battery in my nuvi?
Answer:
The nuvi series does not have a user replaceable battery with a few exceptions. The exceptions include the nuvi 5xx, 8xx and the nuvi 900T. These devices have a replaceable lithium-ion battery. The battery can be purchased on our website from the following links: nüvi 5xx Lithium-ion battery (replacement), nüvi 8xx Lithium-ion battery (replacement)
I have the same problem. My gps only works when plugged in now :(
